Nice locks sir👍👍 The rotalok was originally mine sold to Rick and he gifted onwards from there. Great to see someone else getting it open. As for the union beautiful lock I also have one and although "easy" to pick nice to have in my collection. Thanks for sharing👍👍😘🍻

+Pick Beard Thanks. That Rotalok is a beast. I was surprised that I got into it as quickly as I did (2+ hours). My Kaba mojo has not been great lately.

excellent ! you made it look easy, I got a few union padlocks and will give them a go. don't think I'm gonna be as quick as you make it look...

+tonyholt90 I'm sure you will handle them roughly. I didn't feel any security pins. Good luck.

Great picking HT! Think the Kaba Expert and Quattro are the same thing... been picking on a couple i own off and on for 18 months and still not managed it.

+l0ckcr4ck3r I had a Quattro that I gave away in the KP secret Santa... it kicked my butt!

Are you sure that was a Kaba 20 core in there? Because I have a Kaba 20 in my front door and it looks quite different than yours. How long did it take you to pick?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
+Dini Very sure... the lock was new in its packaging (but missing keys), and the package said it was a Kaba 20. The mechanism is also consistent with a Kaba 20, with the pins arranged in a sideways X configuration. That said, there were definitely a couple pins missing from the inside of the lock (not the pin holes, but the pins), which I am told is common on master keyed Kaba systems. It took me about 2-3 hours to open it. I was like a little kid when I got it -- I came home from work late, but refused to go to sleep before opening it up!

I love your channel. Everything is high quality and you are very skilled. I'd love to see some instructional videos. Not basic stuff, that is everywhere.I'd love to know YOUR technique and how you approach a lock. Also, many times do you pick a lock before you shoot video?

+ernie5229 Thanks for the kind words. I’m open to suggestions if there is a particular (narrow) topic you would like to see covered in an instructional video. If I think that I can add something new to the discussion, I’m happy to do so. Also, if you have not seen them yet, please check out the few instructional videos I do have, including video #82 (some thoughts on dealing with paracentric keyways) and #97 (using sound when picking). If a locking mechanism is sufficiently unusual, I’ll occasionally do a lock-specific instructional video (like #78, addressing TuBar locks). I’ll probably post a lock-specific “how to” video on the ASSA Desmo in the next day or two. I also have a video planned for the future addressing my approach to tension, so be on the lookout for that. As for how many times I pick a lock before turning on the camera… that depends on the lock. For instance, the lock in this video, I probably picked 2 or 3 times before turning on camera. On some harder locks that number would be much higher. On easier locks (like American Padlocks, the Kwikset “UltraMax” and Schlage Everests) I don’t pick them at all beforehand.

How you approach tension was my first thought, as you appear to use much higher tension as others. BosnianBill calls this "forcing" the lock. I do it too, but it only works on cheaper locks. My next topic is on how you lift pins. I see you almost always use the keyway as a leverage point. This is very common, but for some reason I learned to use the tip of a finger for that. It is much more accurate (for me), but doesn't work well for short key pins. I just can't get the reach. I have spent probably a dozen hours trying to develop the keyway prying technique and have had little success. I identify the binder, and it may be a very obvious binder, but the moment I put the lightest prying moment, with the lightest tension, the cylinder seizes up. I get nothing. You are clearly very good at this, so that would be my next request. Thanks for sharing your work! You do have a very distinctive style, and there aren't enough well made lock-sport videos out there. Keep it up!

+ernie5229 Thanks -- I'll give it some thought. In the interim, if you are interested, I wrote a few thoughts on tension here: www.ninjacache.com/index.php?id=lockpickinglawyer
