@LoociferZ
@LoociferZ 9 ай бұрын
Except it would be exactly 2x too wide and you don't need that much power. You need a sled that can keep you alive long enough to let your turbo do it's business at 70 pounds of boost on a small 4 cyl engine to fit the jetski.
@jamesinson3488
@jamesinson3488 9 ай бұрын
@Chris_Harris A 2 or 3 rotar is wider, and has more power than a V-8?? The whole point would be to get "as much" power a V-8 but at half the weight and size.. I'm a little confused by your comment tbh
@LoociferZ
@LoociferZ 9 ай бұрын
I didn't say it was wider. I was saying a rotary was wider than the inline 4 those Jetski's run and won't fit. The top guy started talking rotary's and I was saying that it wasn't anywhere near viable let alone being able to fit. A rotary isn't going to fit in a Jetski let alone all of the other systems that need to be in place to run a race rotary. The inline 4's are building 1400hp which appears to be about the maximum you SHOULD be building because there is limit to how fast you can go on water with a rider not in a protected cockpit. As for power, there are plenty of 2400-3000hp rotaries. 110 pounds of boost because the technology is perfect and will support it and you'll make more than most V8s can other than a built V8 race engine. The rotaries often use stock castings to race. As for the Jetski's, those aren't V8s or even V4 engines in those 1200-1400HP Jetski's. They're straight 4's(so that they can fit) so none of this is has anything to do with the topic. @@jamesinson3488

I figure at this level same as in car setups, you start reading power off of air density and fuel usage. Doing 60-70 to 140 over 2-4 seconds of unclean acceleration and power loss, 8 plus isn't unfeasible
@anthonylove6639
@anthonylove6639 Жыл бұрын
That’s all well and good but placing figures according to a scientific method on paper is one thing. Placing the engine on a dyno is another. But how it does out in the world environment with all is unknown eccentricities is quite another. Basically how it performs on paper doesn’t perform like you would like it to in the real world. Figured that out with over 30 yrs racing and building competition vehicles of all types. From water sports to salt flats land speed runners. If it has an engine I probably built or tuned it.

@LoociferZ

@@LoociferZ Maybe a new jetboat with 2 could break that record
@LoociferZ
@LoociferZ 9 ай бұрын
That would be connnnnfuuuuusssinng to make happen. Fluid dynamics are not easy because the water you're driving on never has the same density/flatness, so your Jetski technically will never have the same relationship between the input from the jet pump,j et of water/the hull of the Jetski and the water itself. I don't know if doing a double jet would make that better or worse. It also depends on whether there is some impedance of the water from the one-jet nozzle. Is it even worth adding the complexity of cutting the jet of water into two? You could never fit a second engine in that engine compartment so it would need to support two streams from one engine. I'm going to say that the Jet nozzle must have very little impedance of what power that is produced by the engine to water that the Jetski can physically suck with the jet pump to what it can speed up and push out the back through the jet nozzle. Sorry, this is a nerdy comment, but in my opinion, those dudes probably have already done the math/testing to see that one stream with high pressure is better than trying to create pressure with two nozzles.@@reeceengineering
@reeceengineering
@reeceengineering 9 ай бұрын
@@LoociferZ I was mostly meaning to point out that just because no jet boat team has tried it is not evidence its not beneficial. With aircraft its always more efficient to move a larger amount of air slower. This is why high-bypass turbofans keep getting larger each year Efficiency improvment can help for a higher topspeed, depending on what was causing the losses in the "before case". There could be less cavitation on the blades, less losses to mechanical drag by halving the stress put on each unit. Who knows Im just spitballing ideas. This doesnt need to be done with twin engines. Do the existing setups not already have a gear ratio change between the motor and jet? Run power to a second jet from there. A chain would probably work well. The level of development it (seems) these teams has reached is well into the land of trying out of the box concepts. Laying up a custom hull with 2 jets could be done, and with photogrammetery they could even replicate an existing hull they are already experienced with. Trying new things is largely how the drag racing community came so far, and we certianly see these ski-guys using that knowedge...

Imagine if the water bike were running consistent over the surface of the water and constantly running until it reached its true maximum velocity!!? Heck, im sure it could go beyond 140mph.

So many lakes too. Like about a hundred. Not sure the Spanish mouth pieces could make it so they can ruin the entire event.

Oh god, don't get me started. They ruin every type of racing that involves a small engine. I've seen those packs of Spanish-speaking people blow up countless races at the organization, then staging, then the race itself, then the result, then the result again, then they whine to the organizers that it wasn't fair. It's rampant in spall engine racing.

GPS can be +/- 3mph or more depending on type, not even taking GPS Drift into account. On top of that 2 passes must be made with an avg from the 2 passes being the official speed.

I accidentally rented a supercharged jet ski one time in Florida. At 100 mph and damn near 20ft in the air. I shitted myself mid flight.

LOL, they let people rent highly modified skis? All PWC from the factory are limited at 67-68 via coast guard rules.

So, who is going to be the first to do a surface propeller on one of these powermonsters instead of the good ole sucker? At 130mph++ the safety aspect of the jet seems kinda diminishing no? Old video of a GP1300R with propeller drive: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHnHo5ppor6Gnc0

Don’t EVER wear a dirt bike helmet for high speed stuff on jet skis. If he were to fall with that helmet it would snap his neck like a breadstick. I made the rookie mistake when I was 19 and got my first legit sportsbike a CBR F3. I decided instead of my leathers I’d wear jeans and a hoodie. As I came up from my tuck at 120 ish the wind caught the hoodie and almost ripped me off the bike. What I mean by “almost” is getting jerked back so hard I lost my grip on the bars, both hands came free. The back of my head was touching the pillion seat. I almost did a damn back flip off the bike. The wind kept me pinned back until by some sheer miracle I slowed to about 75 and somehow was still in my lane. I could break the wind resistance at 75 and I sat up. So that was just a cotton hoodie and the air. Imagine a gigantic plastic rudder attached to your face and going into water at 140. Bad things, very very bad things.
