Hello Back in the woods, thank you for this interesintg video from the Pungo. I have a Pungo 120 since one year. Yesteraday I paddle the first time on a river like this. It was fun. The Pungo is very stable, only the spray skirt is not good as the pouch in the front has a net where a lot of water comes in during rapids. This pouch is then hanging down and the water cannot out. Also the stern cover is not tight and it should be improved or you use a separate neopren or ruber cover over it.

Kirk, I've done several downstream floats and they're fun especially when you hit some nice waves and churning pockets. I could actually feel each of the pockets you went through. Thanks for getting my adrenelein pumped. I think I like this thrill over the thrill of taking down a massive 60 inch diameter pine or live oak. Nice to se Mamma andrhe dogs waiting for you and the dogs recognizing who you were out on the water. Old Capone was anxious to see you. Enjoyed a full-watch 👍🏽🙂. Have a fine wekend.

I also just bought the Prijon Enduro 380 I believe it’s more maneuverable and with the deployable rudder tracks well in flat water. It’s built with better plastic but the seat isn’t as good. I modified it and now works great. They are from Germany though and the only place to get them is through a shop in New York shipping was over $300 bucks

This was a great video of your kayak Adventure. That Pongo did well through all those Rapids. I am looking into buying a Pungo kayak. I have #3 question? #1. Do the pungo kayak come with the wide foot brace in the kayak? I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very very extremely wide. I have to kayak Barefooted 👣 because they don't make a shoe , sock , or boot that's wide enough for my foot. #2. Your Crocs that you were wearing are those comfortable to wear while kayaking and would you recommend them. I used to have a pair before I started kayaking and I don't know if my foot got wider or the Crocs shrunk but they don't fit on my foot any more. #3. I heard you say you got wet a little bit but is it worth getting the spray skirt for the kayak as well. I'm wondering like did your feet and legs and things like that stay dry. I'm trying to determine when I get the Pungo kayak should I get a spray skirt with it too. I did like the spray skirt that was on the kayak and the pocket that was built on it. I have the sit on top Tarpon right now and I want to pick up the Pungo for a second kayak. I did enjoy watching your video thank you for sharing.
@backinthewoods20223 жыл бұрын
I would definitely try before you buy to see if it fits you. I would recommend the spray skirt it would keep you pretty dry if you were to put a rain jacket over it after you put on the skirt. The crocs work well for this because they don’t hold water and stay on well when you get in and out as long as the water isn’t too cold. Hope that helps.
@mackjenkins77213 жыл бұрын
@@backinthewoods2022 okay you would definitely recommend the spray skirt . okay that's good to know that the spray skirt works pretty good. That's good to know that the Crocs work pretty good too. I need to go out to the crocs store and buy me another pair. I know I will have to modify it to make it fit on my foot again. I have to cut a section out for the toe box on each Crocs for two of my fat wide toes to hang out because of my foot being so wide. This would be awesome so I can kayak with Footwear and not have to be barefooted 👣 all the time. I'm getting ready for spring time so this really really help I appreciate it sir thank you.

I am researching this kayak, and you have the most advanced use of it vid I have seen, Thanks. Questions: 1) Why do you have two different sets of paddles? 2) if I went out with my dog, could I still use that splash skirt? Lastly, that was a cool rain jacket, please provide link
@backinthewoods20223 жыл бұрын
I have a back up paddle just in case I loose one. There is a zipper on the spray skirt to allow a dog in front of you but would be a tight fit either way. The jacket is from Kuiu it is there Yukon rain jacket. Hope that helps

The Wilderness Aspire is a nice option to move more into the ‘lightwater’ category of kayak from the more recreational Pungo. The Aspire uses the same skit and it keeps “most” of the water out but is not waterproof. Most of the videos on my channel are in my Aspire and I still wouldn’t take it for the type of paddling I do. Thanks for sharing your trips!

That was a nice video of you did Sir. That Pongo did very well through the Rapids. I like your Pongo kayak and the spray skirt that you got for it. I want me a Pongo kayak real real bad. I had to go with the tarpon because I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE with very fat wide toe and my foot would not fit in a sit inside kayak so I had to go with a sit-on-top because of that. ( it's embarrassing how a wide foot with very wide toe can stop you from buying a kayak ) I want to buy the Pongo for my second kayak. Question? Is the spray skirt worth getting for the pongo kayak. Thank you for sharing this video.

Oh I’m not a professional hope I wasn’t coming off as trying to be one. This was a video of me doing my own kayak trip not a how to video. I was personally completely comfortable the entire trip in the clothing I chose and had the necessary fire starting tools with me in case of an accidental dump.

Chill dude, it’s not an instructional video. Personally, I would not use this type yak for class 3, or any fast water for that matter, and I certainly wouldn’t be out there alone. The Pungo is a recreational model and if you fill the cockpit with water you’re swimming it to shore. Very difficult to do in fast water so it’s a good way to lose your boat. That said, if you know what you’re doing, and understand the risk, nothing wrong with what he did.
@karencooper66343 жыл бұрын
totally agree, the Pungo is rated recreational, not for white water, but the clothing is very wrong...dress for immersion is what i was taught years ago...cotton kills as they say. Glad you made it but this video gives the impression that someone less capable can take this boat in white water. PS, I just bought a used Pungo 120.
