Legendary recording engineer and producer Glyn Johns’ career and discography are so extensive that it’s very difficult to summarize quickly. The sound of his recordings has had an immeasurable influence on the way we listen to popular music, particularly Rock and Roll. The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, Eric Clapton... he worked with them all.
Here he talks about his philosophy of recording, producing, and managing a career in record making.

Fantastic interview. I could listen to Glyn Johns talk for hours and hours and never tire of his stories of his experiences, positive and negative... his sharing of technical knowledge... and his insight on how he's had to deal with such a varied level of "circus" in the people he's worked with. Thank you.

This was by far the best Glyn johns interview ever ❣️👏🏻👏🏻 He's engineer number 1 on my list 👍🏻👍🏻 I would have liked to know more about his micing of other instruments and other "techniques" of his "process" though. Thank you for this❣️👍🏻👏🏻

A superb interview (depends on a great interviewer--kudos to Leo Sidran) with the always fascinating Glyn Johns. if you haven't read Glyn's book Sound Man, you must give it the squint. I was somewhat frustrated by Glyn's book, because I wanted it to be comprised of at least three volumes! If Leo Sidran interviews Glyn again, I hope he asks him about the circumstances surrounding the recording of The Who By Numbers & the Who Are You albums. Glyn doesn't go into much detail about that in his book, but there's a lot of information there, perhaps to be revealed one day. Meanwhile, this Third Story Podcast is a great gem. CHEERS

43:00 this is the most accurate complaint that I have at 863 days of DJs picking their songs also offer corporate radio’s been going on for 50 years now practically however if you’re not radio coming in and all that kind of stuff, the individual can create their own radio stations in so can you turn on KZbin channel? Can you turn on Contant and deal with smaller audience hopefully will be much bigger shout out to from former Madisonian, followed your father for years peace out.

He told Jimi Hendrix to turn down and use a different amp. Obviously didn't understand amps or Jimi.

Don Henley wasn't that enthralled with how he recorded his drums. He thought it was to wet.

I don't like the way he was towards Hendrix. He said he didn't like Hendrix much. So opinionated. By the same token one can write him off as a bit of a curmudgeon kind of person. But, he worked with auspicious Bands.

Having opinions is a job requirement for producing music. Glyn(who I've actually met) is being honest about having opinions. Everyone in the music business has opinions. Many are not open about them because the competition is so fierce, but that doesn't mean they lack opinions. As for Glyn(who I've worked with years ago) being a curmudgeon, I strongly suspect he would laugh and agree with you. He's one of the greats, and if you don't like him, go out and be better than he is. I'm quite sure he would support that. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson

@@diegorhoenisch62 I actually loved his work with the Eagles. I appreciate the honesty from Glyn. I only heard of him when I saw the documentary of The Eagles a few years ago. So when I discovered these interviews from him on KZbin I tuned in. He always sounds like it was just a job. Although I appreciate the honesty. Thanks for remaining respectful in your reply.
