The biggest problem with 144hz is that it's too good. It's like a drug, once you feel it - there's no coming back, you start to lower the settings to low just to play at 144fps, and you start buying too expensive GPUs just to have more fps. Shit.

2 corrections: 1. Gsync & Freesync don't have lower input lag compared to Vsync (sadly). 2. 3:50 Not "at least"... It's max. 16 ms because the worst case is new information (a new image) right when the old image shows up. So you have 0-16 ms of lag.

For my Asus vg248 you need a display port to display port cable to get a 144 refresh rate as hdmi is locked at 60 htz which may cause you to need a new card as well.

This is incorrect on so many levels... only HDMI 1.0 is locked at 60hz, if you have a high speed HDMI port (aka: HDMI 2.0 and the like), it will run at 144hz, also DVI also runs 144hz... there are THREE standards that will run 144hz, DisplayPort is only the third option.

If you play competitive games like, overwatch, counter strike go and league of legends go and buy a 144hz monitor it's totally worth it but if you play the most newest AAA games don't buy it because you need a High End PC to reach that refresh rate for those games and doesn't worth the money, so get a 1440p monitor instead since in majority games visual quality are better than a 144hz refresh rate.

I own one of those acer predator IPS GSYNC 1440p 144hz (oc 165hz) monitor and 1080ti. Honestly speaking the highest fps I got is 120 from far cry primal and I don't see much difference between 60hz and 144hz. Yes, 1440p monitor does make the picture look sharper but that's about it. Plus, the cost is lot more.

Thank you! Very informative! I did not know until now that refresh rate adds input latency on top of whatevever your monitor's actual input latency. And so I didn't know that a 144hz monitor would still be 7ms. If a 144hz monitor had a 1ms response time does that mean it actually has 8ms? Is that correct? That you add your response time to your refresh rate input latency for a 1+7=8 kind of equation? I'm a speedrunner and Smash Bros Melee competitor and am used to playing games on console. But when I want to play online or do anything with an emulator I have to use my PC and all my monitors are 60hz. It sucks and I hate it! I need to buy a really fast monitor for Speedrunning and for Melee. It is horrible to play on 60hz. But now I'm skeptical of 144hz. If it has 7ms I know thats not a lot but in games where every milisecond counts. Should I go for a 240hz? What input latency would that have? Cause I'm a console CRT guy and I need to emulate that as much as possible if I want to get my career off the ground and on to Twitch for the types of games I play. Ill just get an El Gato for the consoles but for Emulation of Melee for Online play I'm told that 144hz with G sync is all I need to make the response time the same as a Gamecube on CRT. I find this hard to believe because of the 7 or 8ms that you mentioned. I gotta figure out if this is good enough or if I should try to go for 240hz. Sorry for repeating myself a lil bit there. vsync locks everything at your hz rate, so for most monitors that locks your games at 60fps to match the 60hz monitor... unless something goes wrong and your FPS tanks, then it will lag out and drop everything down to 30fps... and vsync is very laggy... its' not really anything you want to use.

Not a single word is said about how to get high refresh rate while playing, and that is the graphic card. Without a powerfull video card, depending on the game title, fast refresh rates can't be achieved. If I missed that crucial part then please let me know.

The CPU is the most important thing when it comes to 144Hz gaming. any GPU can hit 144Hz. an expensive GPU will hit 144fps on ultra and a cheap GPU will hit 144fps on medium-low settings. an expensive CPU will hit 144fps but a cheap CPU will NEVER hit 144fps.

gtx1070 for high to ultra @ 1080p vsync. Takes alot of grunt to push 120fps+ solid in modern games. Even then you will hit engine limitations in alot of games. Over 80fps at least is all good.

Turn off the blur effect in the settings lol , just use v sink also for screen tearing it works well with 60 hz , I still rek people at 60 fps . If your computer is to slow well you wont get even 60 fps in most games these days at most medium settings

I could over clock my BENQ GW2270 to 80hz have a AOCG2460pf now though :) I can fully say that it’s worth it!

I joust bought my first 144hz monitor and its also the first time i'm playing with 144hz. All I can say is, yes its absolutely worth it.
