Well done Frank and Kane, it must have been difficult with all the extra equipment you had on this explore. Appreciate all the extra effort you guys went to in trying to make your way up the ore pass. Good planning and great teamwork on making your way down to a lower level and back up, but knowing when to call it is crucial, we never heard the rock hit the bottom. False floors are scary and that was a great example of why anyone inexperienced would be safer not entering abandoned mines. Loved the show as always; thank you so much for sharing what you do. Take care and stay safe.

@budinfield90645 жыл бұрын
Frank you need a small roto hammer drill! Just like in construction, a little Hilti brand. Those baby's drill through rock or concrete like butter!
@orenthalsimpson5 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I was thinking through the whole video, I had that same DeWalt hammer drill combo and it was garbage. My Hilti is waayyyyyy better!
@orenthalsimpson5 жыл бұрын
Even Milwaukee would be better
@exploringabandonedmines5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that one didn't work great. It might be the wrong bit.........maybe it was for concrete? Some rock is just real hard too I know miners would run into rock that was real tough to drill also.
@budinfield90645 жыл бұрын
I have tried to drill rock or concrete with many bit types with little success. I got a nice little roto hammer and Bam! Drilling in all types of rock/ concrete made easy. They have cordless units now that are fairly small too. Not cheap though...
@exptegk64555 жыл бұрын
I second how good a hammer drill is for rock and concrete, the Bosch sds bits with 4 drilling heads work very well. A cordless hammer drill is no match for a corded one but is worlds better than a non hammering drill.

Frank, that was sketchy bro. Be mindful of what is above you when setting pitons. I have seen rocks fall on them from above and shear the off the anchor. Even tying off on dry square set cedar timbers gives me the willies. As much or the next time you go with another person. And yes I know it’s a pain in the ass hauling rope... lol. Have the 2nd run their own line. Makes for traversing and especially an undercut section much safer and easier. Always have more than you need. Thanks bro R.I.P Max 🐶 ~B

@@exploringabandonedmines Hey Frank, for future reference if you were at the bottom of a vertical shaft without ascenders you could have removed a boot lace to make a prussik, and then made foot loop from another lace/sling/rope to allow you to up-climb on the Petzl Gri-Gri and Rig. Also there is absolutely no need to tie off a knot below the Petzl Rig as it has a locking function. I recommend reading up on some IRATA or SPRAT literature about rope access which might come in handy for future explorations.

You know it would be awesome to have your previous seasons done up on D.V.D. with extras and unseen footage which was cut in editing...and sell em...a nice way for you to earn some coin...making old mines pay again in a different way...and doing so allows you to add footage that may not have made it on your channel due to youtube restrictions...have a good one

@@exploringabandonedmines Sweet...good to know...An Idea sprung to mind...maybe for peaking into hard to reach areas try a little drone with a mounted camera...be a pain in mines true..but as long as you can see it you can control it...and from that footage you than can see if an upper opening looks promising enough to try and reach.
