I didnt watch the video just because I dont find it interesting when you have worked on and replaced god only knows how many units but I did wanna say unless they are stupid rich they are always gonna wanna repair over replacing the unit. I mean I'm the type of guy if my compressor blows up I wanna buy a new compressor than a entire unit😂 **even tho I didnt watch the comment will still help with the algorithm

You are one of the very few HVAC guys that knows how to run a clean torch tip! Also sounds like the gas pressures are correct also, I am an aircraft mechanic that had to weld with Oxy-Ac,

Great job, what was the smoke coming from the condensor? Dirty condensor or was it oil from then refrignant lines burning? Like your oldschool scale, i bet it will survive you!
@subcoolHVAC3 ай бұрын
It was a combination of leak detector liquid boiling off and may have been residual oil on the coil from the initial leak. Yep, the scale will outlast me 👍

When those aluminum coils started coming out, all the manufacturers claimed they couldn't leak.

Good job. I would bet that the evaporator coil has never been cleaned or even looked at. Also with that number of suspicious spots, the coil will leak in another place.
@subcoolHVAC3 ай бұрын
The evaporator was pretty clean, usually they rust on the end sheets. I’ve repaired many of these condensers like that. It’s the same spot most of the time . It’s best years are behind it for sure. 👍
@SFBay693 ай бұрын
@@subcoolHVAC Crazy how rusty these evap coils can be. Is there any correlation between strict filter maintenance and leaks in evap coils?
@kamranjutt90403 ай бұрын
Good work👍 but if the leakage is close to metal part of condenser. It is better to carefully melt the surroundings of metal part touching copper u and then solder copper part No callback no complains . I work as an hvac technicion in kuwait .
@subcoolHVAC3 ай бұрын
You realize the end sheet melts at a higher temp than the copper, trying to melt that would destroy the copper. Thanks for the comment though👍

@@subcoolHVAC I have done it bro It needs super skills But any way your work is outstanding 👍
@TrustedHVACR3 ай бұрын
I would be challenged to do that without burning a hole through the copper … any suggestions?
@subcoolHVAC3 ай бұрын
Yep, clean the u-bend with sand cloth, small light flame and keep it moving with brazing melting over it. I use Stay-silv 6% . Had to stop the nitro because it was popping holes, but got it to close. You can do it. 👍

Thanks for the video, it was interesting. Was there a huge difference in price between a repair and replacement? thanks,
@subcoolHVAC3 ай бұрын
Thanks David, would’ve cost at least 6x the $ to replace , ultimately it’s customer decision 👍

ive seen several systems installed without a dryer, when the lineset is less than 10ft long. i dont think that is the case in this situation. did someone put a hard start on a scroll compressor smh....
@subcoolHVAC3 ай бұрын
They provide a drier with those units, none was put in when the evaporator was replaced either 🤔.
@stevem10813 ай бұрын
They may save money now, but the unit being that old, they will be paying a lot more in the long run due to it being less efficient and more leaks are likely to show up again before long.

Hopefully no fan, capacitor or compressor goes out in the near future they might blame it on you, usually no good deed goes unpunished, I've done a a couple of less expensive jobs to help a customer out and BAM! they call back that their water heater, on other side of house does not work a day after I repaired the a/c, this really happened to me, just told them to go kick rocks.
