15/12/22. CLAAS Torion 738T A new experience!

It took just a few days between asking if there was a machine I could try, and one arriving at the farm. My experience in a tele handler is no more than an hour TOTAL... How will I get on with it?

I like the articulated steering my own tractor has that and it's definitely the way to go! but for a telehandler I would prefer a longer boom, something you can replace a barn roof with - now that would be fun ! 👍👍👍

I think it's safe to say you wouldn't have any reach issues with something like that on the farm. The issue with smaller loaders is that they become less practical on the road if that is something you need it to do in order to justify ownership.

Hello Farmer P 😊... A beautiful, compact, multi talented piece of equipment. However, to compare it to the Mustang, is like comparing chalk and cheese. The old mechanical machinery when it broke down (rarely) could be fixed in the most part by the farmer, and spares a lot cheaper. The electronic route generally means plugging it into a computer to find the fault thus involving an agent visit, at a cost. Spares are expensive. Once microchips and mother boards are involved costs escalate. The Mustang reminds me of the old VW Beetle.. it just goes on, and on, and on, and on............ That being said, it is enjoyable trying out new machinery and equipment, and they do make farm work a lot easier and more comfortable for the farmer. When they start making all farm machinery with a Biskit seat (heated for winter) with attachments e.g. Water and stain proof (mud and cow muck) cushion, rain jacket (for field work (rabbits 🐰) and toilet breaks in wet weather), a can of Cab fresh spray to cover nasty smells from dog rolls in stinky stuff (dead frogs, bird poop etc.), and a brush and comb set to smarten up for visits to Grandpa Pullen, Funky Farmer, or the local Mayor, then we can talk re purchasing such a vehicle. 🐶👍👀😂😂😂 Thanks for enjoyable video, Farmer P. That Claas seems to be the bees knees if you pushed the wood chip up any higher you would have to put a red light on top to warn aircraft, make the most of it and push the hard-core pile up a few scratches can soon be polished out. Great video Ian, I think you should have a look at an avant with cab of something like a weidemann t4512. Compact but powerfull. As you said a loader would make more sense then a tractor

Practice makes perfect I just wish I could have a driver on that machine I learnt to drive an old Sanderson's telly handler and my first day or so was a little shaky but after I got the hang of it like you will Ian you'll want one and wonder how you managed without it specially with all the tools you got to play with I only had a bucket and a set of forks, best of luck with it wishing all the best to Mrs P and to your dad.

one thing no matter how big it is, its hellish quiet , could hardly hear it when you started her up and was talking. even when working it was hardly noticeable .in terms of yard work for the farm and logging side , stacking , doing the heaps,which saves you space ,stuff like that it would certainly benefit you , perhaps one of their smaller ones needs to visit, or maybe one of the little merlos or manitous??? after all, this would get used more than the tractor over a year ,saw a manitou the other day and it was tiny compared to older ones

doing great getting to know the telly handler. if you buy a smaller on you get better by doing. did you not just take a bucket of woodchip and gone to the max height dan drop it slowly on the rest. or with the muck grab making the soft wood pile higher and bit smaller based . what we do is et new drivers dive around the yard with a small bucket filled with water in the big bucket to learn how delicate and precies you can handle it.. or pich up a coin off the floor with the pallet forks..

I can understand your caution, I drove telehandlers for hours then had a skidsteer for an afternoon. That was a very steep learning curve ! I was just getting used to it when we finished the job .

You'll soon get the hang of it and your be suprised just were you can get those machines into. Best way to clear the Windows is put the Heater on and just Crack the Air Con on, it dries the air and stops the dampness. Same on the Tractors.

A very nice efficient machine I'd say, quite and I expect economic to run, but somehow I'm thinking it's not the one for you, your a skid steer man and that's that, what about a Teleskid with side entry that would be a really good fit for you I reckon,, I believe a few are doing these now Cheers

Always good to try something different than your used to, you never know a new machine might have hidden benefits. As you say, that one might be in the large size for your setup (and expensive) but might lead to you thinking about other options/benefits etc. Never look a gift horse in the mouth !! I supposed that's technically a wheeled tele-loader akin to the JCB TM series, (rather than a telehandler akin to a Merlo/Manitou). Setting aside the cab hieght, it should get into your barns reasonably well, due to the hinged chassis.

Ill bet their smallest model would give you reason to pause and smile. The old saying Ian. "Drive It Like Your Stole It!" No fixed throttle setting seems odd. It sure has a large bucket for the machine size.

Don’t be scared 😱 show it like you stolen and have fun and put that stuff up as high as you can climb up on high as you can, and you can do a lot of things with that machine and you will love it a lot more it’s just like a Lowder and I know you can use it to clean up the building and get done faster and yes, they do make smaller ones to I bet you bobcats makes them to I seen them

the tree team would find more use for that than you on farm, i only use ours for the cleaning out gutters, bale stacking, loading and unloading lorries, replacing bulbs on the exterior lighting, you better off getting a side cabin skid steer sk Claas if they got one of them you can try out.

As it doesn't have a hand throttle, I assume the footbrake will disengage the gearbox drive, allowing you to put power to the hydraulics. Do try mixing forward drive of the machine and then braking to put power to the boom and bucket. I think not having to clamber in and out of the cab plus locking the bucket pins will be a help on wet, frosty mornings but bales will still need unwrapping. The heated cab and seat would be nice though and might need a crowbar to get you out. !!!!!!

You may not have known quite what you were doing, but your posture was definitely more relaxed. Your arms and shoulders didn't have to move as much as in the mustang and you weren't twisting so much. A smaller secondhand tele might do you a lot of good! Snorkel have some rather nice smaller machines, though I don't know what they cost or if there is a second hand one anywhere near you. Thanks for the glimpse! :D

Jcb does a telehandler about half the size the claas will lift a pack of paving blocks stacked 3 high with no effort.

It'd be nice if JCB lend you a telescopic skid steer, that would be a little better than your skid steer as it's reach is better and the cab is a side entrance.

Hello Ian. I've been waiting to see you use this. To me, it's got far too many electronics, but the heated seat is useful. Can it be made to drive without bending in the middle. A JCB telehandler I once used could use rear wheel steer , or all wheel steer, but I don't think it was articulated. Not much use to you unless you re design you cattle handling set-up.
