Found a quicker way I just did it on my 15 Yukon Denali took me about 5 mins..I didn't remove none of the panels....Just take the two small covers off...I broke the clip and removed the camera and pushed it inside reached my hand inside the panel unplugged it grabbed the new one snapped it in and plugged it in ready to go...if u have fat hands like me it was a bit difficult but I managed to get it done quickly or if u have younger kids they can easily put their arm all the way In there no problem

Do you mean you were able to reach in from the outside, through the main camera panel hole (at 15:50 in the video) and reach the harness from there? I had hoped to do that on mine, but the harness was clipped to the body, out of reach.

@joefair4677 yup I just popped the clips holding the harness on with a flathead screwdriver and me personally i didn't care for putting them back in lol...only reason I did it this way because I hate dealing with clips and they break so damn easily and didn't want to take it off

@@oaklandrydazI hear ya. I wonder if your 2015 had the harness clipped on at a different location than mine. Mine was around a 90° bend, so I would’ve had to bend a screwdriver 90° to reach it (and then probably use an endoscope to get it properly positioned to pop the clip loose).

@joefair4677 oh yeah mines was literally right by the tailgate latch door cover..once I popped it off it was literally right there

Wish mine had been. I guess between the 2015s and 2016s, the engineers decided to make a simple change so that it would be a 2 hr. job for the dealerships, instead of 15 minutes… 🤦🏻♂️

I have a 2018 yukon XL and it’s backup camera is statically at times. Do you think it’s a wiring issue or just the camera?
@joefair4677 Жыл бұрын
Hard to say for sure… I’ve also heard some people report that certain LED bulbs in the license plate lamps have seemed to cause static in the camera image, but mine don’t seem to.

It’s just as crappy as the original. I sent mine back to Amazon after 30 minutes. Waste of time!

The purpose of this video wasn’t to endorse the camera. It was to show how to access/replace the rear camera. As I said in the title of my Amazon review for that aftermarket camera (the one that has all of the before/after photos), “Improvement over stock, but not an awful lot.” It is in fact *better*, but not very much, and mostly just at night. It’s mainly just worth buying if your stock camera is bad and needs to be replaced anyway. Not really worth buying if your stock camera is still functioning properly and you’re just looking for an upgrade. For now, I guess the best upgrade on these backup cameras are the replacement rear view mirrors that have LCD screens built into them, wired up to their own rear camera that you have to mount back there.
