Transcript continued: ying to be more careful avoiding problems so i could say that i am a cautious driver i don't want to get into any accidents i was cautious when i went ice skating because i didn't want to fall down i was cautious i was careful our fourth word is the word indifferent and different is an adjective that is used to describe someone who doesn't really care about something or someone who is uninterested in what's going on or uninterested in the subject i could say everyone is gossiping about celebrities these days but i am indifferent i don't care what they're wearing i'm indifferent to their clothes i'm indifferent to their activities you could also use it in a more negative way the king was indifferent to the suffering of his people he didn't care about them he was indifferent number five is the word bashful now bashful is an adjective that is used to describe someone who doesn't want a lot of attention someone who is kind of shy or quiet they avoid talking to people so someone who's bashful might not want a lot of attention on them so she was kind of bashful she had a lot of impressive achievements but nobody talked about it she didn't want to draw attention to herself she was a little bit bashful number six is the word sympathetic sympathetic is an adjective used to describe someone who feels or shows sympathy someone who is caring and understanding somebody who is willing to help someone who's struggling who really works to talk to them and understand where they're coming from so a nurse is a really good example of somebody who is sympathetic you could say the nurse was sympathetic to her patients and she listened to them and tried to help them the doctor was sympathetic to his patients he listened to their problems and he cared about them number seven is the word anxious anxious is an adjective that's used to describe someone who is worried or nervous you might feel anxious before a big test or a big exam you could feel anxious during a job interview you might feel anxious about your cell pip exams but don't worry after you've learned these 15 words you won't be anxious anymore i was anxious about my exams but i'm not anymore because this video prepared me number eight is the word deplete deplete is a verb that means to use up something to consume or reduce the supply of something so this can be used literally with the supply of an actual object for example i eat cereal every morning every day of the week so by friday my supplies of cereal have depleted they've gone down i'm running out of cereal i used all of it up i depleted the cereal you can also use it in terms of something more like energy so working all day made me really tired it depleted my energy i didn't get a lot of sleep last night so my energy is depleted it's gone down i'm running out number nine is the word chronic um this is an adjective that's used to describe something that goes on for a long time or something that's always happening it's used most often in medical contexts so if you have a chronic health problem it means that it's going on for a long time she had a chronic headache her head always hurt he had a chronic back ache so he had to get surgery on his back to cure it you could also be chronic in a different sense so for example she was a chronic liar she was lying all the time i never heard her tell the truth she was a chronic liar number 10 this is a fun word this is the word scruffy scruffy is an adjective that's used to describe someone or something that is dirty or messy or untidy for example the child went outside and was playing in the dirt all day he came in and he was scruffy he was covered with dirt his hair was messy you could say she looked really scruffy she hadn't showered in a couple of days so you know her hair was a mess and maybe her clothes were dirty she looked scruffy scruffy can also be used to describe the hair on a man's face if he hasn't shaved in a while so it's sort of the hair right before a beard so you could say john was looking a little bit scruffy he hadn't shaved his face in two weeks the next word the 11th word is disembark this is a verb that's used most often with larger vehicles it m

eans to get off to leave a ship like a boat or an airplane to leave but it can be used with other vehicles too but mainly really big vehicles like a boat or an airplane so for example you could say the airplane passengers disembarked as soon as they arrived at their destination the airplane passengers got off the plane as soon as they arrived the people on the cruise ship disembarked as soon as they got to the island the people got off they disembarked the cruise ship number 12 is the word disillusion this has a couple different meanings but they're very similar so the first meaning um you can use it as a noun and this is the feeling of disappointment when you realize something is different or not as good as you thought it was going to be his excitement became disillusion when he realized the video game wasn't as good as he thought it would be my excitement became disillusion when i realized the job i had applied for wasn't as easy as i thought it was going to be disillusion can also be used as a verb that's a similar meaning it can mean to cause someone to realize that a belief or an idea is false or it's wrong you can say the doctor disillusioned the patient when he told her there was no cure for her illness i felt disillusioned when i realized that my favorite shirt didn't fit me anymore disillusioned the 13th word is unearthed unearthed is a verb that means to find something that was hidden in the dirt or hidden underneath something to dig up something that was in the ground this is the more literal meaning so you could say the scientists unearthed a dinosaur skeleton in the dirt so they dug into the dirt and they unearthed a dinosaur skeleton you could also use it as more of a metaphor you could say the lawyers tried to unearth the truth in this case i tried to unearth the meaning of this word by looking it up in a dictionary number 14 is the word devalue this is a verb that means to reduce or underestimate the importance of something so i could say i feel upset because people devalue the work that i do because they think it's not important john felt like his coworkers devalued him because they didn't care about his work they didn't think he was important his work was devalued and our final word is the word withdrawn in its verb form this is the past participle of the word withdraw which means to remove something or to take away we'll be focusing more on the adjective form of this word which is used to describe someone or something um someone who doesn't want to talk or spend time with other people this kind of person is withdrawn so for example if i am in my house all the time i just like to read a book by myself i don't like to hang out with people i don't like to go out i am withdrawn i stay alone a synonym of the word withdrawn could be introverted or shy or quiet when she was a kid she was very quiet and withdrawn but now she's more social so that was our last word i hope that these 15 words were helpful for you and i hope that you enjoyed this video and i wish you the best of luck on your cell pip exam have a great day thank you so much for watching alright so that was an amazing lesson from teacher brown and if you liked it and if you want to speak like her fluently like a native speaker for the next two weeks we have a promotion we have a 20 discount on all lessons with teacher brownmen limited time again so these slots get booked up very quick let me know if you are interested email is in the description and also at the end of this video like share and subscribe as well if you liked this video and we'll talk soon take care you
