We've created a different template for ball-playing centre-backs, wide centre-backs and for the classic role.
For each section, we used five key metrics to filter the perfect players for each role.
Ball-playing centre-backs:

Wide centre-backs:
◉ Take-ons Attempted
◉ Tackles Made
◉ Ball Recoveries

Traditional centre-backs
◉ Aerial Duels Won
◉ Possession Won in Defensive Third
◉ Interceptions Made
◉ Clearances Made
◉ Opposition Shots Blocked
We then cast our net over Europe’s top seven leagues and beyond, including some minor divisions as well as looking at MLS.
In this video, each radar displays a player’s per 90 stats compared to other centre-backs. The outer and most inner boundaries represent the top and bottom 5% figures of the selected position across the past three top-five European league seasons.
Every radar in this video is based on the players' stats during the 2021/22 league season. And remember, centre-backs are the most difficult position to analyse output for. The radars and stats help us find some interesting candidates, but of course there is plenty more scouting to be done.
