In this episode, Bernie Dehler (former Christian, now atheist) has a discussion with Kent Hovind (Christian and Young Earth Creationist). They discuss these 5 topics; about 10 minutes for each topic: Is atheism/evolution a religion; is the gospel nonsense; does a supernatural soul exist; is Genesis literally true; are Catholics real Christians?
Feel free to leave a thoughtful comment. Comments that are rude, contain cussing, etc. will be deleted.

It makes so much sense that God created man, put him in a garden with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, then told him not to eat from that tree. If man hadn't eaten from the tree how could he know good from evil?? If he couldn't know good from evil why would a loving god hold him responsible for his actions. That's like putting a 2 year old in a room with a snickers and a man that will tempt them to eat the candy and then telling them not to eat it. Then getting pissed off when they eat it. God created adam, evil, the serpent, the tree, and the whole situation and yet it's our fault. This is an absurd nonsensical fable.

Yes, that is much more feasible than “my imaginary invisible sky daddy did it all with his magic god powers.” Not only is it more logical but it actually has a thing called evidence. As an agnostic, it is important to listen to other's "proof" of a deity. Kent does nothing to pursuade me away from atheism, but it is important to constantly challenge what I know, believe, and think. Kent is a real test of my patience, due to his intellegance. He is really good at warping reality to fit his narritive. He is really good at lying to convince others, who are less intelligent, that his skewed perspective is correct. Because of how good he is a creating a fictional reality, it is important for me to watch others debunk his outrageous claims. It is in my interest to watch people argue with him, even though he tests my patience with every word. Why do you keep listening?

Kent is such an obvious conman and fraud, I think he knows he's talking rubbish but like every good conman whose found the perfect rubes, people who give their money to him quickly and often and always without questions. Religion has a long history of attracting fraudsters, abusers, charlatans and hucksters as they have a multitude of gullible sheep to use and abuse, who never question anything their told and who are at their happiest when they are being fleeced. Its sad, it really is sad for those born into religion who are taught not to question and are sheltered from learning proper science.

Yep, Kent is right. "No one's ever seen a dog come from a non-dog" "Farmers count on the fact that cows give birth to calves" "When you plant corn you get corn". As Kent would say "well, duh". This is what evolution expects. He's been called on it point blank. Something to the effect of "who claims otherwise?" He steers away from the question, "well you believe a cow was something else millions of years ago don't you?" He changes the subject, does not dispute when he gets called on things, but they stay in his presentation the next time he debates. It's a tactic is what it is, to reel in his more ignorant followers. I'll say this for him. He's got balls.

Bernie makes an ad hominem at Kent at 6.05. Burnie doesn't understand Kent Hovind point, that Evolution is a religion, so he attacks him once more and insinuates that Kent doesn't know the definition Evolution. 9.40 Kent has to explain evolution to Burnie (which he shouldn't need to do if Burnie actually did some critical thinking about the subject). At 10.06, burnie says I quote "The theory of evolution you wouldn't expect it to be observable". Burnie believes in a non observable cause. Burnie has more faith in a theory that's non observable cause then believing in the living almighty omniscient God? He then gives us an analogy about finger nails growing and I quote "We know that they grow with logic." That's is exactly what's Kent is trying to convey. This is Philosophy, this is not science. That is why evolution is a religion. Kent is dominating this conversation. Burnie is a little child whose lost at Dinosaur Adventure Land and Kent is helping him find his way home. I haven't seen the full length of their conversation but after more then 10mins. I'm onto the next debate.

Man's Origin, Man's Destiny #2.The Creation of Life..a cybernetic approach to evolution #3.The Natural Sciences Know Nothing of Evolution.They're all written by the same author.The late A.E.Wilder-Smith.Although they can get rather academic at times( probably due to the fact that Dr. Wilder-Smith obtained 3 earned doctorates in his lifetime) for the most part, they're not only informative but they're enjoyable as well.

20:42 One of the comments I made on Kent's channel is that Kent said "a just god has to punish ever single sin". But if becoming a born again Christian wipes away your past sins, it literally means that god is NOT punishing every single sin. It's a contradiction. 24:22 Kent claimed to be a High School Science teacher. However, he was not. Homeschooling your children does not make you a High School teacher. 39:28 Kent said that abortion is killing a life, since it's life that begins at conception. But this goes back to the identical twins/chimera scenario. If there's a life creation, and that life splits into two, which mass of cells had the original life, and which has the new life? And with the chimera scenario, there are two lives that merge into one. So does that mean there was a death of a life involved? 47:57 Technically, an artificially created life form has been made before.

To your first point about punishing every single sin. God did punish every single sin. He did that with Jesus Christ's crucifixion. That simplifies it a bit, Jesus was beaten, scourged, and ultimately crucified to atone for our sins for all time. He, despite committing no crime, being completely innocent suffered horribly and died taking the punishment we deserved for sin. He stood in our place and suffered so that through him we can be redeemed back to God. His resurrection signifies that He truly is the son of God and that sin resulting eternal separation from God was removed, but the resurrection takes us away from your point. I'm sure what I've just written above begs several questions, but to simply answer your question without going into ALL the detail. Every single sin was punished through Jesus Christ's suffering and death. He was punished so that we don't have to be. That's how much we are loved by God, that he would send His son into the world to die for us. That in essence is how the contradiction you mention is avoided. God Bless.

Gibran Britt _God did punish every single sin. He did that with Jesus Christ's crucifixion. That simplifies it a bit, Jesus was beaten, scourged, and ultimately crucified to atone for our sins for all time._ But according to Christianity, Jesus had no sin to be punished. Jesus' sarcificing himself like he did would have no affect on sin, because he had no sin to punish. If you saw someone in court be found guilty of a crime and sent to jail for their crime, would you expect the said crime to be forgiven if an innocent man chose to take the guilty man's place in jail? No, because punishment doesn't work that way. Someone else taking your punishment does not teach YOU the intended lesson. _He, despite committing no crime, being completely innocent suffered horribly and died taking the punishment we deserved for sin. He stood in our place and suffered so that through him we can be redeemed back to God._ But it's because of the fact that he was sinless that makes that act pointless. The fact that he was sinless meant that not a single sin was punished. _His resurrection signifies that He truly is the son of God and that sin resulting eternal separation from God was removed_ First of all, there's no proof that anyone was resurrected. Second, assuming he was resurrected, his resurrection would have made the self sacrifice null and void. So even if his crucifixion did punish sin. if he was resurrected, then the sins went unpunished. And third, Jesus never fulfilled any of the prophecies of the old testament. In fact, there's plenty of evidence in the old testament that Jesus is NOT the messiah. And on that note, Christianities idea of a messiah is the polar opposite of what it meant in the old testament. _I'm sure what I've just written above begs several questions, but to simply answer your question without going into ALL the detail. Every single sin was punished through Jesus Christ's suffering and death._ That doesn't answer my question though. How does making an innocent, sinless man suffer punish sin? How does punishing someone who is without sin punish all sin? _He was punished so that we don't have to be._ Which is a way that would never pass in any form of legal system. _That's how much we are loved by God, that he would send His son into the world to die for us. That in essence is how the contradiction you mention is avoided. God Bless._ All it does is replace one contradiction with another. Why did he have to send his son to be sacrificed in the first place? If Yahweh is omnipotent, why doesn't he use that omnipotence to simply eliminate all sin without sacrificing his son? Because if you say he can't, than that's admitting that Yahweh is NOT omnipotent. However, if you say Yahweh IS omnipotent, that means he sent his son to die even though he could have fixed the problem without doing so. So in other words, either Yahweh is NOT omnipotent, or Yahweh is NOT a good god.
@smartalecatheist1262
@smartalecatheist1262 8 жыл бұрын
Vernon Smithjr _where does it say Christians don't get some punishment? Christians are forgiving, that doesn't mean there won't be punishment. it just means not eternal punishment._ So in other words, two people could have committed the same sin. The one who's not Christian will burn in Hell for all eternity (regardless of how small the sin may have been), while the born again Christian would just get a slap on the wrist (regardless of how severe the sin may have been). And if you try to claim the punishment would be more than a just a slap on the wrist, take into account an eternity of punishment to compare with, then no matter how severe the Christian's punishment may be, it's infinitely less than the alternative.

No one is sent to hell for their sins. They are sent to hell because they rejected Christ's atonement for their sin. God put the sin of mankind on Christ. Christ became sin for us. This is why when he was sacrificed, OUR sins were being dealt with. You say why doesn't God just eliminate all sins? This is a very stupid proposition. The concept that God is omnipotent does not mean that He can do things which do not make logical sense. He cannot break the laws of logic. If God 'eliminated' all sins, then he would no longer be a just God. He would be violating His holiness. This is not too hard to comprehend. Maybe you should not involve yourself in theological debates when you don't even grasp the most basic and fundamental aspects of Christian theology. The more you post, the more your ignorance is being exposed for all to see!

Evolution is a religion and requires copious amounts of faith. A few examples are ''we have the best case scenario for the origins of the earth. We rely on evidence and that which is observable, but can not say anything with real certainty. Some atheists like to talk in terms of certainty, especially regarding morals ''whilst at the same time saying life has absolutely no purpose or meaning.

According to the Christian believe God made everything good in the beginning we had no sickness and no death. God gave man free choice. He did not want man to be like the Angels who he commands. He wanted man to have a personal relationship with Him. He wanted man to choose him out of his own will so He gave him free choice to choose for him. The tree of knowledge was a test, but not His ultimate plan. There was also the tree of everlasting life in the garden of Eden. When man chose to be disobedient and comit sin by eating of the tree of knowledge. God was forced to throw man out of the garden and away from his presence and prevent him from eating of the tree of eternal life. If man was able to do this he would have been able to live forever in his fallen state. This world was originally intended to be governed by man with God. By man's disobediance he gave those rights to the Devil. God has been working to restore that broken relationship from Adam and Eve. Many would say today that if I was in there place I would not have sinned. They walked in Gods presence and sinned we have the fallen nature in us so how can we do better. That's why we need some intervention to be as Adam was with God in the Garden. Sin separates us from God. Because we have the fallen nature we can not come in His presence. That is why we need someone that was sinless paying the debt we should have paid. Our life's on its own will never be worthy to come in Gods presence for he sees Adam in us. Christ came to pay our debt and restore our relationship with the Father He was sacrificed for our sins and came to set us free from the Adamic nature. If you accept Christ offering by accepting Jesus as your Lord, Master and Saviour. You can come into relationship with the Father because He sees His son Jesus in you and accept the sacrifice on our behalf. I hope it helps to understand that this present world we live in was never Gods intention Adam chose it by sinning. This is a fallen world will pass away. There is a new world being made. If this world was made in six days. And Jesus said I am going to prepare a place for you and He has been busy preparing that place for the last 2000 years. This is like living in a garbage can The new earth will be something we cant imagine. God is Just and He has proven His love by giving up His only son so we might live eternally with Him. The same as Adam walked with Him in the garden. But God is also Righteous and this supperseeds His love. Therefore He will judge every man that chose to stay in the Adamic nature and not choose His provision Jesus Christ. The end result for every person that does not choose Jesus has chosen seperation from God and has chosen eternal death. Hell was never Gods intention for man it was meant for the Devil and his fallen angels, but man is choosing it by not choosing for Jesus. It is not in the will of God that any should perish but that all should come to repentance and find there salvation in Jesus. I pray this will help those who are looking, but can't understand Gods purpose for man. Hope you choose for Jesus before it is to late. God bless! hope to see you some day in Gods presence!

@ 2:45 "We have particles from the Sun creating other particles" and after they blow up in a supernova creating planets" You illustrate the utter failure of your theories in the first explanatory sentence. Particles don't create anything. Especially other particles that create other things, like planets. The structure and systems present on this planet do not just make themselves "naturally". You will always have that huge gap at the very basis of your worldview... one that defies one of the most well known scientific observations. And it's this. ..that things break down, they don't get better. ESPECIALLY highly complex lifeforms and genetics. Time is your hero - with absolutely zero reasonable explanation how inanimate things MAKE inanimate ones. You guys are always personifying inanimate concepts. I hear it ALL the time. Evolution doesn't DO anything. Neither does time. You will say that I myself don't have an explanation but I do. Any being capable of creating time/space/matter simultaneously MUST be outside of our concept of time. Can I perfectly tell you this beings character? No, I cannot. But I can say that NATURALLY these things do not happen. Why can't you realize that every species' genome on this planet is diversifying/degrading over known history? Which is only about 5000 years old, I might add. Any positive claims to the contrary are completely unfounded - fantasy. Yes, it's a fantasy, deep time and slow progression to delicate complexity. One that's also the most unlikely. It's just not what we observe.

+SecHummer Your article has the same problem. "These motions (see video here) could explain why galaxy clusters form far fewer stars than expected - a puzzling property that affects the way cosmic structures evolve." See that word? "Could"? Fanciful speculation. A lot of big words, basically saying. ..oh look. We see a bunch of hot gas and swirling around. My point stands. .. Creation is an act that requires a creator. You can't personify inanimate material. You might accuse me of therefore not being interested in the mechanics of the universe. It would be nonsense. It's very interesting. ..but no one has ever seen lifeless matter actually create anything at all, even on Earth. Sorry.

+SecHummer Please, explain to me the prevalent theory of how ice and dirt accretion, from the power of gamma radiation somehow forms a highly complex system and atmosphere such as this Earth? Perfectly balanced in a multitude of factors to support an infinitely more complex ecosystem? I'm telling you, it's always going to be gueeswork. Now I don't claim to understand it..but I can positively say that what we observe is it's destruction over time, not it's gaining complexity. What we observe goes against natural law in a very large way... more than enough to render pure naturalism, in a word, silly.

+Guy C Because it's supposedly not gaining in complexity, this renders natural law silly? What the hell have you been reading and/or what moron have you been listening to? Let's start with your last question. You ask for the prevalent theory of how ice and dirt accretion combined with gamma radiation can form a highly complex systems such as earth. Well, perhaps you remember a little round of experiments with gamma radiation performed by one Dr. Robert Bruce Banner? Yes? Good. Then perhaps you also remember what happened when he accidentally exposed himself to over 1 billion times what was thought to be the lethal human dose of said radiation? Did this reduce his complexity? Did this cause him to deteriorate and run down? Hell no it didn't. The genetic mutations from the radiation, combined with adrenaline when he feels stress or pain results in a transformation of mass complexity. Next question?

Yes, Bernie. God is separate but one. Father, son, and holy ghost. His Son died bodily on the cross. He went down into hell to preach to all of the lost souls who were incarcerated. You can't kill God the father, the Son, or the holy ghost. If God inhabits a body you can kill the body but not the spirit. You can set three glasses of water on a table and pour them into a larger container and the water is one. So it is with the Trinity.

If your argument is that there no physical evidence for God, maybe you just aren't using the right "tool" to discover him. There wasn't any scientific evidence of microorganisms until the mid 1600s. That doesn't mean they weren't around for the past 6000 years or billions of years. The writings contained in the Bible have been warning us about things that we cannot see for 3500 years: things that man, using science, didn't discover until hundreds or thousands of years later. I'm not placing my faith in men who change their minds constantly. Who in their right mind would claim that God doesn't exist anywhere in the Universe when we haven't even explored the depths of our own oceans yet?

@@boglerun8444 Think of the wind. You can't physically see it, but you can feel its effects on you and you can see its effects on the things that it blows on. God does affect people that he touches. There are thousands upon thousands of eyewitness testimonies of how people's lives have been changed when they called on Jesus Christ. And the beautiful thing is that even if you're skeptical you can still call on him to prove himself to you and he will. It's all a matter of whether you are earnestly seeking the truth or just seeking to disprove Christianity because you don't like something that the God of the Bible stands for or stands against. It's sad but I find the most people who stand against God have gross misconceptions about something in the Bible because they read it online or in some atheist publication instead of reading the scriptures for themselves. As one who was atheist at one time myself, I can assure you that there is a lot of garbage being spread about the Bible that is absolutely not true. It helps to know history when you are reading the Bible. Otherwise, one might draw the faulty conclusion, for example, that biblical slavery is the same as slavery during the transatlantic slave trade in the 1500s, which is absolutely not true at all.

The Bible sais that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). To save humans from eternal death, the Son of God, Jesus who did no sin, took the penalty for our sin on him. He died because of our sins and he rose up from the grave bacause he himself had never sinned. So he makes his rightiosness accountable to us as if we never sinned. Thats why we can have eternal life. If Christ would not have offered himself to be punished for the sin of the humans, Adam and Eve would have had to die immedeatly and the human race would be whiped out. but Jesus loved his creations so he would rather die than to live for all eternity without the humas.

***** I find it hilarious how you creatards spew the most ridiculous, pseudo-scientific bullshit as if it was absolute fact. It doesn't even matter that the entire body of scientific research proves that you are talking out your ass. Macro evolution is just micro evolution extrapolated over a much longer period of time. There is no imaginary barrier that stops creatures from evolving, and given enough time a creature can, and will evolve into a far different creature from it's original ancestor. "There isn't a shed of evidence that we descended from apes". First of all moron, we didn't descend from apes, we are apes. And all current ape species descended from a common ape - like creature. Secondly, there is enough evidence that proves this is true, to fill a library. Evidence like the fossil record, taxonomy, comparative anatomy, geobiology, and genetics, to name just a few of the many sciences that confirm our common ancestry. "Darwin wasn't a scientist and he had demons, and it was called the Cambrian explosion". There is so much wrong with this statement that it's hard to know where to start. First the theory of evolution has progressed far passed anything that Darwin ever dreamed of. Today T.O.E. has been crossed confirmed by over 20 scientific disciplines and tens of thousands of scientific research studies. Secondly, Darwin studied medicine at Edinburgh University. He was as much a scientist as anyone else, at that time in is field, which later became modern biology. Thirdly, the discovery of the Cambrian explosion came long after Darwin had died, so I doubt it demonized him. The rest of your diatribe is just too stupid to even bother to address. Don't any of you creatards possess any embarrassment threshold, at all? These old creationist stories have been debunked for over 50 years. Try googling TalkOrigins.com if your interested in any real science, and not just parroting creationist lie factory nonsense. You creatards proudly display your complete ignorance of science, as if it was a badge of honour. Finally, your hero Kent Hovind got his PHD in Christian Education ( not science ), from an unaccredited diploma mill called Patriot Bible University that a guy ran out of a double wide trailer. His pathetic four page thesis (that reads like a nine year old wrote it ), is available for anyone to read on google. There is no record of any accredited school ever employing Kent as a science teacher anywhere in the U.S. Kent is a fraud and an ex-con for tax evasion, and ripping off his own employees. Only an uneducated creatard can listen to the utter nonsense that Hovind spews and believe that he's got it all figured out, and 150 years of the brightest scientific minds working together, have it all wrong. Frankly you creatards have become the laughing stock of the 21st century. origins.com

What is the gospel? The gospel is God gave himself for the punishment of sin. If jesus was not God, then who was he?. If god had to use jesus to appease a angry god and take his anger out on jesus that's not good news, if god the father is like that, then that is not good news at all. That's child sacrifice and that's not good news and that is not the gospel. Just to be even more clear if jesus stayed in heaven and god came down as jesus in spirit, the gospel would of played out exactly the same way because jesus was god and god was manifested in jesus.

Exactly, comparing apples and oranges. Even a PC can make millions or billions of calculations in a few hours, that is impossible for a human to do in a lifetime. And the computer has perfect answers while the human doesn't. In some ways computers are more complex than humans, in other ways not. The human is not the best at everything. Eagles can beat humans at self-powered flight, and dolphins can out-swim self-powered humans. Tigers and bears could win against humans in a fight (without weapons). We just have the best, smartest, brain of all creatures. But AI (artificial intelligence) will soon change all that.

How do you define the word complex? How do you define evolution? Why are we calling human beings more evolved than everything else? IA will never exist because it assumes that it will have free will and it won't. IT will just be as a rock that flows in a river. And if this IA would ever kill humanity it would just be as if someone caused an avalanche that killed him.

God dont belive in atheists.. but he said HE thinks the atheists ideas make more sense to the world today.. well yah..worth out God you can live anyway they want to because they dont want God telling them how to live.. thats why to him it makes sense.. thats a stupid philosophy to have... but that is the root of it... its not why he said he left but this is the real reason... but hopefully he will come back to Jesus.. thats the important thing

Why are there animals that have not evolved for up to 700 million years. The jellyfish is one example.

Nicholis Tyminski , I know what you are referring to now, as I just happened to watch that debate earlier today.

Nicholis Tyminski Also, when you listen to that debate notice how you can't hear any breathing or coughing and it's just Kent being frustrated that he is taking too somebody prepared for his nonsense and doesn't get gished by his gallop.
