Another pet peeve from a local - do NOT touch Monk Seals and Turtles! I watched a tourist woman approach a giant, large slumbering Monk Seal and started to get really close to it at a beach and the locals were yelling at her. The seal lunged at her and almost attacked her...very stupid!! Also, keep your hands off turtles, it's illegal to handle them unless you are part of a research team or have a permit!

Always love seeing you hang with Amanda and Felix. Thanks for the tips. Actually when I went to Honolulu in 2021, I did visit a McDonald’s. But they did have unique items catered to Hawai’i like Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice or Spam and rice. So I kept away from stuff I could get in Southern California. 😎

One more dumb mistake my fam made caused us to have to pay for a $500 "Taxi" trip. Make sure to plan transportation! We joined a fire dance lesson excursion near the Polynesian center at 6pm on a Thursday, and there were NO Taxis and NO ubers available to drive us back to Waikiki. We begged a local on the road to drive us back but he charged us $500 for the hour drive home. I'm thankful he took us back, riding in the back of his pickup truck (6 of us, with 2 children under 3).
@TheOriginalMarimoChan

If you're going to off-the-beaten path places or places not on a public transportation bus route, best thing to do is to rent a car for peace of mind. That local guy was not showing Aloha by charging $500, what a scam!

It's not DUMB to go to McDonalds to get items that aren't found on the mainland! Definitely agree not to go there to get regular food, but we always go to McDonalds in different countries to get the unique items.
@BeerOverIP
@BeerOverIP 4 ай бұрын
@@TheHollycopter I agree, tip number 3 is misleading. Did you know McDonald’s in Hawaii is the only McDonald’s in America that deep fries their apple pie? The mainland McDonald’s bakes it and it is not as good. The local platter with a fruit punch is something you can not get in the mainland McDonald’s. If you travel elsewhere, McDonald’s in Japan’s shrimp burger is awesome with a blue Hawaii soda. Taiwan’s McDonald’s has awesome spicy fried chicken and corn soup.

Great tips Jay, my daughter lives there on the Island and I see many of these things happen when I visit! You mentioned TSA, put all those large bottles of sunscreens and other creams, pastes, lotions, aerosols and gels into your checked bags. It is still a requirement for liquids to be 3.4oz (100ml) or smaller and fit into one quart-size bag per person for carry-on. Oh and remember that when buying souvenirs to take home. Jams, jellies and other spreadable, squeezable, squishable items are considered liquids, as well as large snow-globes and will need to be wrapped well and put into your checked bags. I'm a retired TSA officer and I absolutely hated throwing away items people brought to the airport without understanding the rules in place when flying!

Mahalo Jaycation, Amanda, and Felix for your tips so tourist can respect the land, and at the same time, make sure they have a fun and safe trip here. As for Hawaiian superstitions, one of them was not sleeping with our feet facing out the door. The Hawaiian spirits could drag you by your feet out the door. My family are all Natives and they heavily believed in all Hawaiian superstitions. And good point Felix with waving the shaka in traffic and Amanda, with not leaving valuables in the car. And Dadcation, you rock those Crocs well. That was a funny cool segment with the crocs.😂❤🤙👍

Brought my boys there in 2012. Picked up rental Jeep (bad choice) and went straight to Kmart for camping gear and food supplies before heading for a Christian campground i reserved across from Skydive Hawaii airstrip. Perfect, cheapest way to "hawaii" except for still not knowing what those god awful pod things EVERYWHERE on the beach we pitched our tent on. We called them satans children and by the last night, gave up and grabbed a room. By skipping expensive rooms and restaurants, we were able to skydive, shark cage duve, drive the entire perimeter of the island, be and chill aloha style, etc. Took the camping stuff and gave it to an unhoused guy downtown and came back home. Sadly, the mind isn't retaining the memories lost to fire going on 5 years ago 😭 Haven't decided if i wanna come back one more time before i depart this planet or not.

It's SUPER dumb to not follow the wildlife restrictions, on the mainland, it isn't as strict so it's understandable, yet there are SIGNS that literally say that it's ILLEGAL to not follow the "50 feet rule" here in Hawaii and especially on beaches where turles are most commonly seen. In fact, a few years back, I remember people trying to "wake up" a monk seal while it was resting, and many tourists follow the turtle like a few inches behind it, some people even hit them with sticks or ride on them. What's more, locals were staring at these tourists with a look that basically conveys "WTF are you doing?" Sorry, it's just SUPER annoying when tourists don't obey laws in Hawaii set by the government and properly obeyed by Kama'aina, THEIR CALLED LAWS FOR A REASON!

U should prob rename this video to - dumbest mistakes Americans make in Oahu. In Australia we don’t have food chains like Cheesecake Factory for example and we definitely are used to respecting culture and marine / wildlife. We are very aware of beach conditions too. Nobody here litters in general and going to another county and driving on the other side of the road means we are definitely cautious. We found a lot of places, both America chain and local Hawaiian don’t accept dinner bookings. I would say the dumbest mistake that ppl make is not getting up to the North Shore and food trucks there - this was our favourite thing we did. Dumbest thing we did was forgetting we were in America and ordering chips to actually get what we call corn chips 😂

McDonald's has taro pie, which available only in Hawaii, and seasonal only. Personally, I don't like Hawaii beers, taste like water.

You missed the whole point which os venture out and try foods you like but from restaurants you never heard of or go to a small or side of the road cool out to support local. I have on one of the islands. They had amazing fresh malasadas and coffee. Almost one of a kind experience. It is the whole point!
