I’ve had that Lucy Hague pattern in my queue for ages, I’m saving it for a gift knit! I’m working on the Royal Oak Cowl by Sarah Kenyon (free on Ravelry) which has several cables and twisted stitch motifs. It is a good design, just a little fiddly to keep track of, just because of how the pattern is scattered over two pages, but I encourage intrepid beginners to give it a try… there are some especially kind souls who combined the written instructions on their project pages, and I found that exceedingly helpful 😅

My first cable knit was zigzagular socks a free Ravelry pattern. It just over 9 stitches so for me as a beginner knitter was plenty to just concentrate on the one panel as I’m not sure I’d have known how to correct mistakes - the socks are still in rotation and are my very favourite pair

I wanted to include socks but wasn't sure if cables on sock-weight yarn would be too difficult for beginners - I'm glad to learn they worked out! I guess we'll have to have a video about cable sock patterns - there are certainly plenty to choose from!

I really like the Patons Classic Wool Worsted (it's usually available locally). If you prefer shopping online, Knit Picks Wool of the Andes is similar.
