In SCP-3000's case, it produces an amnestic substance that can be used on people to make them forget seeing an SCP or can be helpful in containing SCPs that could breach containment just by simply being remembered

There is no fixed 001 and there are many reasons mention, and all of them could be true or wrong. One is, as you said, to hide something by deliberately giving wrong Information. Censorship will always pull attention. Beeing vague has a better effect. With everything that exists in the SCP universe, hiding information is hard. The other is that they can't decide which one should be SCP-001, which is probably he best mirror of how the SCp consortium works. Another one would be, that as SCP is based on a Multiverse, there could be realities where only one of all of them even exists, or all o them exist in different dimensions and SCP Foundation has info on them because of other SCPs and things that happened.

One of the biggest mysteries of the universe is WHY TF HAS NO ONE MADE A SCP TV SHOW!?!?!? It would be perfect for a "monster of the week" style show but have a huge underlying story with almost infinite lore to pick from. Kinda like Supernatural or x-files.
