Lion Hunt Buffalo
The buffalo in this video set himself up for failure and a lot of suffering when he got stuck in a muck of mud. How does an animal end up like this? Well, I don’t know, but the lioness sure appreciates it, as she walks up to the animal and tries killing it, while other members of the pride watch, but it’s like quicksand in there, so even the lions are having a hard time standing. I’m not sure of the outcome, because the video ends before we see what happens, but one thing is for sure: that buffalo is doomed. A Pride of 20 Lions, including 7 big Lionesses and 13 big Cubs, took down this huge bull Cape Buffalo in the Western Serengeti.
The bull was enjoying a cool morning in the bush before this pride spotted the animal during a morning stroll. Wildlife enthusiasts approached the sighting and that's when the buffalo escaped momentarily before the lions were on top of him again for the second time, which was the right one, as they succeeded in taking him down. The lions in this video apparently took seventeen hours to take this buffalo down. Imagine having to work seventeen hours, just to eat. The buffalo was in bad shape, to say the least, but it was still standing, fighting for its life, while the lions were taking turns trying to kill it. This hunt was so exhausting that the lions had to take breaks in between, while the buffalo was still alive, lying on the ground, waiting for death to knock at its door.
Hyenas Hunt Wildebeest
A single spotted hyena kills and feeds on a full-grown wildebeest bull. The hyena employs the standard prey takedown technique of immobilizing the prey by tearing into the soft areas of the groin, then beginning to feed while the animal helplessly watches. Many people despise hyenas because they believe they are merely scavengers who steal food from other animals. Many people are aware that they hunt their own prey, but they still dislike them because of their hunting technique. They lack the tools that big cats have, hence the reason for this, and they manage to feed themselves efficiently. These two wildebeests have their horns locked together for some reason, so the hyenas take advantage of the situation and eat the wildebeest that’s on the ground.
Talk about a weird predicament! It’s already difficult enough to escape hyenas, and now these two had to get stuck to each other. Hyenas are unquestionably one of the world's most reviled natural predators. They are frequently portrayed as scavengers, the bullies of the African plains, laughing as they gang up to steal hard-earned meals from their more majestic competitors, but hyenas are also excellent hunters. Indeed, most of the prey they consume is the result of their own hunting efforts. They will scavenge or steal prey from another carnivore if given the opportunity but so would any other carnivore.
