This is happening everywhere. I live in Alberta, Canada. One town called Olds, two weeks ago posted in their News Letter that they wanted to clarify to their citizens that it would not become an experiment in the "15 minute city", because, as they stated, "we applied for funding, but was not selected." So, they applied for funding without consulting its citizens first! (Funding from exactly whom or what, was not disclosed). As you can imagine, people are angry. By the way, Olds and the small town I live in now are 15 minute towns. We basically have the same population, approx. 7,000. We have all the essentials, including a hospital, but any major medical procedure has to been done in Lethbridge or Calgary, one hour to two hours away, respectively. We definitely need our vehicles. We are also primarily an agricultural and oil producing province. Travel is essential for work and survival for the majority of people. At least our current premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, said she would not allow any follower of the WEF in her cabinet. This whole 15 minute city appears to be a blatant attack on our democracy, freedom, home, work and social life. It's blatant control with communist undertones. Thank you Neil Oliver and guests for discussing this issue.

Our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, like his father, a previous Prime Minister is a socialist. Justin is a graduate of the Klaus Schwab school of Economics stating that China is the role model of society everyone should adopt. The expectation then, is that the government by law acquires its citizens bank accounts, investment and takes ownership of lands , estates, one's very home. This results in total control of the individual, physically, financially and eventually mentally. In Canada we have lost the right to protest govt actions, e lockdown, inability to access valid medical assistance, ie effective treatments for Covid by the Cdn college of Physicians likely mandated by WHO, freedom of religion if you are Christian, and soon your thoughts will become hostage to politically mandated thought. according to policy. Yes, Canada is know for being a democratic communist country. Ask the Croatian representative at the UN who castigated Trudeau for transgressing his citizens rights. Alberta used to be the last refuge of freedom in Canada.

And now, here we are in early 21st Century Britain, and there appears to be emerging a small class of people who are insidiously trying to revoke those same freedoms and rights for which people paid for with their own BLOOD! Back in the day everything was local, shops, dentist, GPs, schools etc, it was very rare we had to travel to the big centres, this worked of course, however my father worked outside of this as did many, you had to travel outside of your estate to get anywhere for things and places you need. Day trips to the zoo or beaches with the kids, visiting family that live outside of your local area, hospitals aren't local either for many. While people are happy to stay local most of the time we still need to travel. Malls and huge shopping centres have sprung up everywhere to entice shoppers with a better shopping experience, these places will die if we can't travel, businesses will go bust, as will taxis etc. I do remember when the butchers, bakers etc were thriving in my local community but they died. I do not agree with the 15 minute zone, we are being caged in, we should be able to travel at will. I was brought up in the smogg days, coal fires etc, we survived. Our cars have got better and cleaner, I really don't see any issue, this is all about control, plain and simple. Its dystopian and evil. If we don't stop this we're done. The world is bigger than 15 minutes, whats next no flights, trains etc while these hypocritical elite powerful rich people get to do and go as they please. Sickening!

I could see these 15 minute cities being great if they are community controlled. You should be able to freely travel between them through high-speed rail or something, then get off and walk or bike. Any type of authoritarian control is wrong and should be resisted, but transitioning to smaller, localized villages could greatly improve our lives. Cars have destroyed the livability of cities. Where I live there are so many massive parking lots that are empty the majority of the day. Imagine these could be housing, parks, gardens, or any other number of things that tangibly benefit humans.

They dont often have same issue in the cities in small nations like the Netherlands or Belgium or Luxembourg as they dont really have the same population issue to lead to sprawling suburbs. I presume that these councils are going to ban all their workers from owning car and will close all the council parking spots for their workers. After all if they can't get their own workers into the office when they are themselves in charge of public transport, what hope is there for the rest of us.

@kevinallsop1628. All on line, no need to get workers into the office, no problem, until the lights go out then everything grinds to a halt. And they call it progress.

We need action groups to be set up on all of our cities now. As I Thetford. It's all being rolled out without local people's consent/votes.

As someone who doesn't earn enough to purchase & maintain a vehicle, I require public transport to contribute to society. I would be estatic if my commute was just 15 minutes. So why do the talking heads have their panties in a twist about the concept? Is there some compelling reason each and every one of us must own a personal vehicle, show us your portfolio.

I like the idea of it, but the reality is it is discrimination towards people who are less fortunate, people who can't afford to live near the beach, or people who can only afford to live in the suburbs. I feel like the rich people are trying to lock the middle class and poor people up to stop them from coming into their areas.

I live in Bath, I hate these people so very very much, the way people in the west country get about is by car, we have no choice, our local authority appears not to know this.

This can't be allowed to happen to us in the UK, when these cameras and roadblocks go up, they need to be removed again and again until they get the message. You can bet your arse that politicians will be exempt from their own plans.

The idea of having everything we need within 15 minutes does make sense, but we absoultley should not be restricted from going to another town one day for shopping if we wish. Its all about control and more $ from the tax payer

Not to worry too much. The UK can't keep its services going as they are, never mind build all necessary new outlets and parks. Ie hospital and clinics.
