I use the swiss triplet, Whatever this is called; ( lowercase is a flam, as it's an alternating triplet) LrLR RlRL, flamadiddles, and inverted flamadiddles as a go to warmup every day. I also use a Paradiddle-diddle with a flam on the accent with triplet phrasing. Good video, man. Flams are awesome workouts, and eventually they teach you to stop fighting the stick and relax so it becomes effortless.
@yuriselukoff3 жыл бұрын
“They teach you to stop fighting the stick” - that is a very insightful description of what flam exercises do! Never occured to me to look at flams like this. Thank you for that! I guess I should go do more flams then.
@legacyShredder13 жыл бұрын
@@yuriselukoff The same idea works for your feet too. Once you realize you're working with a multitude of levers you can almost literally tap dance on the pedal without any tiredness in your feet or legs.

This was different. I liked it. Difficult tempo for that long! I don’t agree with saying beginners should bounce at 5 min just bc you switch to left lead but its the same thing. If someone played through the first 5 with right flam lead then they should be able to play the left… ya know

Thanks for the video, It's a good workout! I don't necessarily agree with the beginner/intermediate/advanced approach here, though. First of all, this is not a beginners tempo, which is harder to remember once you get farther ahead on your drumming journey. And secondly, the swiss army triplet isn't the most beginner-friendly rudiment to begin with. It takes time to develop the stick control that's required to execute the rudiment cleanly, especially the tap that comes right after the accented note on the same hand. I wouldn't want any beginner to feel discouraged just because they can't keep up with the first 5 minutes. Also, you can definitely have some hiccups throughout this workout and still be an advanced player. You won't actually be burning your hands like this for 15 minutes straight in a real musical scenario. If you can play it with control for say 2 minutes and you're an overall well-rounded player, you're probably good to go. You use the rudiment to compliment a section of a musical piece, not to run a marathon. Of course it's great to have the stamina regardless, but on the contrary, you can go through the whole workout with ease and still not be an advanced player. The labelling in this case might give drummers the illusion that they're worse/better than they actually are. Other than that, great stuff, well worth working on!
