Just a little exercise you can try out to help with a bunch of key components of survival.
Time starts after you have collected your fire materials.......which you should be doing along your travels anytime in the woods (at least your tinder imo)

Like always very good video. That was a perfect as far as I am concerned. A good point to bring up because the cover is orange he is also signaling. So if any one needed to find his camp they could. Thank you for shooting the video. My new Quote for the day, perfect practice makes perfect.

I marked the time at aprox. 5 minutes when you began and it was around the 13 minute mark when you showed the water boiling. that is aprox. 8 minutes to have a shelter set, fire burning and water boiling. That is very impressive Sarge. I know some guys are ragging on you having a pile of kindling, but most of us know that dry dead fall and standing dead does not take but a few minutes to gather near your camp and it only takes a minute to clear the spot for the tarp. Great video! I am doing this

Derek, Great job. Took 8:17 (approx). Love your videos. Honest to a fault (warts and all - successes and failures, and no b.s.). I liked the way you encircled the bottle with the wood. Seems so obvious, but I wouldn't have thought of that. Looking forward to more vids. Take care, Larry

Some of the fuel was a bit damp, yes. If you start with the small stuff first and get a good coal base down.....it will dry out the fuel. Same principles as the 5 minute fire vid i did. You could/should certainly dry it out by the fire before throwing it on. I knew i would be all set tho, and was. I would use leaves as insulation if i had something to throw over them, being by the fire......or opt for a ton of leaves with no fire

I don't understand why people are saying anything about collecting firewood, The test was to see if he could set up a shelter make fire and boil water in 15 mins with the materials already gathered. Looks like a good way to practice skills to me. Great videos Sarge, i like how "down to earth" they are.

Depending upon the area, I would add 3-6 min, for gathering the fire making materials. Then add a few more, for prepping the area for the shelter. But even still its around about, 15 mins. Good practice. Great video. TY for sharing! PEACE

Yes, well within the 15 min. time limit, so I guess that would make up the actual time of clearing space, ect. All said and done, yep, it would take all of 15 min. to accomplish the task w/o any or much previous prep. Thanx Bro, a great vid...

Great video! I didn't believe for a moment hat you didn't have water on you. I think though... if I was rushing I'd be a total wretch.. lol I know you said you're not allowed to build shelters in that area.. but what about a little one to keep your firewood out of the elements? I've always wondered that.. since I live in Washington where it rains a lot.. I'd put something up to keep my wood dry. Thanks for the video.. I need to try that.
