MUA's have to set everything up beforehand so they're often on set way before the acting crew. And they have very bulky kits they have to lug around, on top of that they have to keep everything sanitary and clean. And for prosthetics, they have to sculpt/dye/paint/lay down hair/and then they have to make dozens of duplicates of the exact same prosthetic and make sure every single copy is an EXACT replica. And in order to do prosthetics, they have to make a casting of the body-part that is getting the prosthesis so it fits correctly. Loads of trials and errors and trial runs with the actors/actresses to get everything perfect and good to go for the actual shooting. Theres a lot involved in SFX MUA work lol. They even have to make multiple copies of props, teeth, and various other things.

As a makeup artist, an avid makeup wearer and film geek. After all that they have gone through, they are paid well for it. While we remain poor. So it's a win for them. The pain is worth the millions.

@Caprice O I just have to share that I was so blessed to see Angelina Jolie in person at the Starbucks in Brentwood back in 2003. She was there with her first son Maddox when he was just a toddler. Her assistant ordered the coffee and I remember Angelina Jolie hopped like a bunny on the ground to make her son happy! If you can even believe it, she was even more gorgeous in real life! I’ve adored her since the movie Hackers so seeing her in person was the best celebrity siting I could ever imagine!

This happens in theater. From itchy clothes, wigs, and beards, to boots that give you blisters, to makeup that you have to keep precise and can't wipe your face.

I’ve done special effects makeup for about 10 years now. yeah it can be a pain, but even if it is 6+ hours of makeup for only 5 minutes worth of photos or whatever you are doing it is so worth it. I can see how if it isn’t a passion of yours it can get annoying.

Narrator: There was no way it was comfortable working with something on your face and head for 9 hours. Jacob Tremblay: it was like having a nice warm cocoon over your head.
