No mention of hard copy books such as….First aid, Off Grid Living, Herbal Remedies, DIY Home Repair, Survival Prep, Gardening, Bible, Etc. No internet connection will make these books invaluable as a knowledge base of information. Suggest building a library of resource materials on a How to basis of books. They would also be a good barter item for those who have not prepared to give them a start.

Certainly First Aid manuals, DIY Home Repair Books, Gardening Info, are always useful to have...along with some cook books (especially for camping related cooking). A good color manual on identifying edible vs poisonous mushrooms and related safe foraging concepts (perhaps some army field manuals or boy scout wilderness manuals) would be recommended. Have a set of such wrapped in a waterproof container/wrapping. Hurricane, Tornado and Flood are the most common disasters that people may encounter if history is to teach us.

@@prepping4tomorrow It's a big deal everywhere. In the country, sound carries for miles. When I was growing up in the country, there was a drive-in about a mile away. I could hear the people talking from my bedroom window. If the power is out for a long time, you should go to bed at night. There is no need to light up your house at night. As far as refrigeration, a real prepper will have canned and otherwise preserved food so he won't require a refrigerator. If you have some solar panels installed where they are hard for others to see, you can power the refrigerator during the daytime, and it will stay cold enough during the night, if you don't open the door. It's the same for freezers.

Solar panels that you can deploy when needed are useful and do not draw attention before events if you have them packed away with some emergency supplies. A weather radio with solar power panel and/or a hand power wind up crank is a good investment. I bought one, designed for use on a boat, that does both plus batteries and wall plug in option that also does AM/FM/SW and consider it a good investment since it is also water resistant. Look into boating supplies for portable electronics that can be doubled for survival gear when you need it.

Hiking-backpacking stores n sports outlets have a lot of stuff that would serve well for prepping. Small solar echargers, fire stoves-gas or sticks, rain gear, camo, waterfilters, etc.if you could hide out a month or so,you mite not get eaten by your HOA. practice with you gear, sleep in a little tent, make a smokeless fire.try fishing.when you go to store buy some extra for hiding, but have two stashes.one you hand over when they kick in your door n the real one burried in the flowerbed.

The generator prep can be controversial. A gasoline-powered generator will never be "gently humming, " which makes electric and solar generators the only alternatives. However, most people cannot afford solar or electronic (charged by household electricity, gas generators, or other sources prior to SHTF), and people who live in multi-family dwellings will rarely have solar power capability that amounts to very much. LP-powered generators have their place, but they are expensive, and gas in any form might not last as long as the disaster. Gasoline and gas (LP/butane) generators and other equipment should be used/tested monthly. Get comfortable with them and keep a good supply of fuel (safe!). There are a lot of trade-offs in certain areas of survival/prepping. For those who have yards, it's probably best to have multiple charging and power capabilities (gasoline, LP, butane, solar, etc.) if you can afford it, along with a large supply of batteries of various sizes/ratings; but again, $$$ plays a huge part in what people can get. For those who have yards, toolsheds and the like, LP and charcoal should both be included for cooking, plus firewood (hiden in sheds, if possible), along with smaller wood (it takes only a small amount of twigs, dry leaves, and small pieces of wood from bushes (all dry!) to cook when using an emergency stove -- and they are affordable and easy to make): HARVEST YOUR YARD (trees, bushes, leaves, grass) WELL AHEAD OF TIME (years!) for fuel you can store in boxes, trash cans, etc. You can "weather" (dry) them for a couple of years in the sun. Store them in large garbage cans. Don't forget to stock A LOT of plastic garbage bags of all sizes. It's worth repeating: A LOT of them. You might have to store your body (and pet) waste for an extended time. So have an emergency toilet (with odor-absorbing cat litter -- plenty of it). You might also want to store sawdust for the toilet. For outdoors, multi-fuel stoves and lanterns are good to have; Coleman and other manufacturers make several types. Practice weekly with them. For indoors, butane is the best fuel: it can be safely stored indoors and, in a well-ventilated room, is the only fuel safe to use indoors. Make certain you have more than one butane stove; if you have only one -- and it breaks -- then you have none. Same with LP stoves. (A couple of small charcoal bar-b-ques can come in handy when you're out of LP or butane.) You don't want to use your limited supply of gasoline/gas to power generators for cooking; it's a terrible waste of the fuel. (Save it for your refrigerator and freezer, a few lights, fans, etc.) Plenty of matches (kitchen-size, smaller wood size, and book size). Plus Bic-type lighters. Keep all of them in sealed plastic bags, and keep the bags in 5-gal. buckets. And don't forget candles. Lots of them, plus candle holders, extra wax (soy wax is cheaper than bees wax), wick materials, etc. to make your own. Practice making them. Food should include canned/preserved/dried, home-grown and, where possible, foraged/hunted/fished (although it depends upon where one lives and, in any case, most wildlife and forageable food will be gone within a short period of time). Those who think they can grab a bug-out pack, a rifle, and a dog and head out for the mountains will mostly starve to death -- or be shot -- within a short time: thousands of people with the same idea will be heading for the exact same place. There's is always a limited supply of things to hunt, fish, etc. (But if you do plan to "head for the hills," keep a strong mountain bike handy: it will probably get you to the hills a lot faster than a car, since most roads, highways, etc. will be parking lots. If you can manage to pull a small trailer/wagon behind the bike for extra supplies -- GREAT!) Stock up on everything you will -- or MIGHT -- need. Grow the rest, and be good at growing your own food YEARS BEFORE SHTF. Practice! Be prepared to "bug in." And be able and WILLING to protect what you have from 2-legged predators. Remember that if you are well-stocked, well-armed, and in other ways prepped, then the most important thing you can have will be knowledge (how to treat wounds, illness, etc.; how to fix those things you need; and so forth). Take first-aid courses in person or online; training beyond first-aid will be even better. And have the supplies and equipment you might need. Books and videos are great, but you might not have time to read through a book in a medical emergency -- and if you have no (or not enough) electric power those videos will be useless. Learn the material and practice. Don't forget to have the various tools (hammers, saws, etc.) you'll need to deal with equipment malfunctions/breaks, along with tools for processing yard and garden materials into usable fuel, and tools/supplies for making repairs to your home. Don't forget that you can go a couple of weeks without food, but probably no more than three days without water. Keep a minimum of a 30-day supply of safe drinking water (per person) at all times (sixty days or more, if possible), and renew the supply regularly. Water stored in plastic bottles is okay for a few months, but the plastic will begin to break down after that: keep that water as OPW (Other Purpose Water) for basic cleaning/hygiene, but not for drinking or brushing your teeth -- and LABEL IT AS SUCH. Always record in large numbers/letters the month and year of each case of water and of every perishable and canned food. Use the oldest first: rotate your stock. You'll have to be creative when it comes to WHERE you will store all that water (it takes up a lot of room). And remember that in most areas of the nation exterior walls and the floors will be freezing in winter if you have no way to properly heat them, so keep stored water OFF THE FLOOR AND AWAY FROM EXTERIOR WALLS. And, as the video is telling us, KEEP WHAT YOU HAVE CONFIDENTIAL: Hide your supplies; otherwise, you'll soon find gangs of predators knocking down your door. Or, even worse, the government will know about what you have and confiscate it "for the greater good" (which is the lie that all oppressor governments always use to take away what you have). If you live, for instance, in a 3-bedroom home -- but you use only TWO of the bedrooms AS bedrooms -- clear out the 3rd bedroom and turn it into a supply room with plenty of shelves. Be sure to make the door a keyed-lock type, and put extra keys in a couple of places. Estimate 10 rolls of toilet paper, per person, per month, and stock a year or more of the stuff. Imagine life without it. One final point: Don't try to be a "Lone Ranger." Life isn't like a post-apocalyptic movie or novel: you won't do well by yourself. Develop relatonships CLOSE TO WHERE YOU LIVE with people who are also preppers. (But even here, DO NOT LET OTHERS KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE.) Survival for almost everyone will be a matter of cooperation among people.

Get two radios that use multiple power sources like solar, crank and battery! 12 candles, if they're the only source of light and heat won't last for hardly any time. You should store hundreds, if not thousands as they also are a great trade item. Same with matches, a box of 250 matches costs just over a dollar at Walmart! Keep them in a air/water-tight container(s)! A car makes a poor shelter as it is made primarily of metal, glass and plastic, none of which are good insulators, which means cold in the winter and hot in the summer! A tent with a tarp makes a much more portable and comfortable shelter! And don't forget about the high-speed communication device, even in a small caliber!

You should learn a poem that is meaningful to you, it can be recited when you are feeling overwhelmed, and it can "take you away" to a better place in your mind. There is another reason. If you get used to reciting it often, just to remember it, then if you take a fall and bang your head, recite it. If you find you have difficulty reciting it, then you may have concussion.
