i think it would have been bone chilling to not get any radio messages from sunbeam, only your pda telling you that they are coming into orbit so you go above water looking for them and they are about to land suddenly a green beam that you have no idea where it came from shoots it out of the sky. That gives you the gargantuan curiosity to find where the beam came from.

It used to work but not save any of the terrain changes, so after reloading a save the terrain goes back to normal. The saving terrain feature is what got it removed in the first place since loading saved terrain would cause massive lag.

Another fun fact (may be wrong. Don't hate me if it is) The air bladder is one of the fastest ways to ascend in the game. Inflating the air bladder while looking up and swimming forward while also holding the space bar seems to me like the fastest legit way to surface in the game.

Honestly, I don't miss the terraformer. It was an interesting idea, but I think having having the tool at a player's disposal would have been too game breaking. The devs have stated in interviews that Subnautica is not about the player, it's about Planet 4546-B, and the player is just along for the ride after the Aurora crashed. That is why all the 'combat' mechanics around hostile fauna are based around distraction, defense and evasion rather than fighting. If they were openly based on fighting, the game would be about you overcoming the planet, not surviving. It's the same thing with the terraformer. By bending the terrain to fit your needs, the game is once again, now about you overcoming the planet, and not trying to survive a hostile world. I played around with a terraformer once in creative (when it still had limited functionality), and although it was kinda fun digging straight down to the LR, after a few minutes, it didn't feel like I was playing subnautica to me. It just kind off...broke the atmosphere that I love Subnautica so much for.

I could be wrong about this but I have a feeling people finding out the Bladderfish could give oxygen has to have come from people playing it during Early Access. The Bladderfish was originally called a AirSack if I remember correctly. It could be turned into filtered water for 20 thirst or be eaten raw and give back I think 15 seconds of oxygen. However this was back when it was really in Early Access, as when JackSepticEye first played the game back in 2015 it was called a AirSack, but the name was later changed to Bladderfish either in late 2015 or early 2016, I can't remember when. However the Subnautica Wiki does mention this information, while the game sorta mentions it within the PDA provided for the Bladderfish if you scan it. The PDA mentions that due to the Bladderfishes unique membrane around its spinal structure it is able to filter seawater and air accordingly. Due to this the Bladderfish has control over it's buoyance, which is also why compared to the other fish the Bladderfish is more buoyant. So while the PDA doesn't just straight up tell you that you can eat the Bladderfish for a little bit of oxygen, it does at least sorta mention it. However one thing that was also removed from the game back when they had to drop terraforming was the ability to dig sand. Honestly just like the terraforming tool, I thought being able to dig sand was also a great concept and it led people to making some pretty interesting bases. Now I followed the game during it's Early Access stages back in early 2015 and didn't get it until I think late 2015, before hand I had supported it by watching other people playing it. I have personally always been a fan of the game, and it's nostalgic watching older videos of the game, or seeing people playing the game for the very first time. Also if I remember correctly, however it has been many years so I could be wrong, but the original design for the terraform tool is the design that ended up being used for the flashlight. I don't remember the current design officially being used in the game, so I think they probably changed the look after the tool was removed from the game and left as a dev only tool. Unless they maybe fiddled with it without telling people and tried to find a way to make it more stable, idk though. Of course I could also just be wrong and maybe they did change the design for a brief while before removing the ability all together.

Okay I made a tiny little error which I didn't notice until launching the game for the first time in about half a month, but the game does actually tell you that eating the Bladderfish raw will give you oxygen. However it will only tell you this information if you scan the Bladderfish, as it is the very last passage within the PDA for the Bladderfish. The complete information upon scanning the Bladderfish is as follows... "This unusual herbivore appears to be mostly defenseless, and bears little resemblance to the other lifeforms around it. 1. Semi-permeable Bladder The Bladderfish is able to filter air and seawater into its body cavity through a unique membrane which surrounds its spine like a bladder. This allows it to remove and consume organic particulate caught on the way, and adjust its buoyancy. 2. Open-ended Vascular Tubing Can be angled and contracted to pump out water and achieve low-velocity, guided propulsion. Largely oblivious to threats, and practically immobile at night, it's only identified defense mechanism is that it's composed almost entirely of water, and and cartilage. Assessment: Edible (oxygen may be retrieved from the bladder and added to tanks on consumption); membrane has applications as a natural water filter."
