I live in rented accommodation in the UK, perpetually on the edge of being priced out of house and home, with little to no prospect of finding somewhere else to live as it's all priced way too high for me to afford. So I'm effectively being priced out of the country of my birth. So, with the above in mind, how can I prep when I have nowhere for my prep stuff to be, with myself having nowhere to live when the poop hits the fan?

@vvalasek I emphasise, I live in the overpriced, teeny, tiny, little, overcrowded, ripoff island that is the UK. Only the old (holding on from the time when buying accommodation was affordable), rich and farmers can still afford to live in the countryside (Maybe not even old people and farmers post-Starmer's budget). Buying even a patch of land when all the land is all priced up the whazoo and owned by the elite keeping it that way, is beyond me, when I'm struggling to just get by. Assuming I can survive with nothing but a bug out bag and a squirrel fur loin cloth.

Many are in your situation...my advice is learn something that will be valuable to others, get some books on vegetable gardening and food propogation or survival skills as skills will be even more valuable than the food you have...also look for and reach out to others with a similar outlook, having communities will be essential as people will eventually need to come together to share the skills or resources they have. There are also important things to have that do not take much room or cost, people will need to start a fire for example...these things will also be good for bartering to get what you need. You can do some things, so do not feel hopeless...and do not fear, for God has a plan, l promise it will be a better world one day, we just need to have faith and be prepared mentally for the changes along the way...🙂

I’m in the same situation the same in U S. On social security, savings wiped out due to my husbands medical issues. Make too much (around $2000 a month) to get help, just barely hanging on due to rent and grocery costs. Don’t have anything extra like cable, a car, don’t eat out or go on vacations, can’t afford a dentist, need knee replacements but can’t afford it. I suppose I shuold go to the southern border and proclaim myself an asylum seeker and all my financial problems will be taken care of.😂

All these issues stem from an economy grappling with uncertainties, including housing problems, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and the aftermath of the pandemic, leading to instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions demand urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.

With $420,000 in retirement savings, diversifying into assets that historically perform well during inflationary periods, such as Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS), commodities, or foreign currency assets, might help protect against potential dollar depreciation. Exploring options like global real estate, diversified foreign bonds, or high-quality international equities may also offer a hedge against a declining dollar and inflationary risks .

@American-Motors-Corporation
@American-Motors-Corporation 21 күн бұрын
Well even before the bathroom controversy I can say I don't think Target was doing wonderfully they basically went chasing trends I mean if we go back to the 2013 era in time and frankly you could even go back to the 2011 era in time that's when they really started to make it a point to throw in a grocery section in their stores they went through and was retrofitting a lot of their stores with a grocery section previously they didn't care to sell full-fledged groceries The reason why that was chasing a trend was simply because that was the up and coming and or it was already a thing expansion of the EBT the food stamps. Basically food stamps had carried the rest of the store for most retailers that sold groceries. Basically what the public was not allowed to know was the reason they expanded the food stamp program so vigorously was because well everything required a bailout / prop if it wasn't just banks car companies and a bunch of other corporations technically retail needed this but they weren't going to write a separate bailout bill for them it would look too obvious to most of your middle class morons who didn't realize exactly how bad it was if they would have done that it would have basically shown exactly how shitty it was so what they did was they took an existing program and they expanded the hell out of it and ultimately this is what caused every gas station every mom and pop shop every major retailer that already sold groceries and or those with the capability of expanding into it such as Target to bust their ass to take EBT this is why you can go to most gas stations in the middle of the night and buy a DiGiorno pizza as well as a half gallon of ice cream they're all in hot pursuit after the food stamp money. Of course last decade nobody saw it because they were too busy shitting on the food stamp card holder because their politicians told them to do so in reality that was a cover they used your ass if you would bitch piss and moan about or at the food stamp card holders then chances are you were too stupid to follow the money and that's basically what happened while at the same time the food stamps also caused a certain amount of inflation we've been on an inflationary trajectory for very long time this is not new it's just simply what happened in 2020 brought massive shock to the system with deficit spending increase of 50%. And then of course to stimulate real estate and to facilitate high real estate sales basically an extension of the real estate bubble and as enticement to get the big boys involved even deeper than they were well they also expanded section 8/metropolitan housing help and yeah that meant taking on more tenants but it also meant that they were going to up the allotment to the landlords so instead of paying a landlord $550 a month for a single family three bedroom home or a three-bedroom townhouse perhaps even a two bedroom well all of a sudden they were paying these conglomerate landlords or even private landlords $1,250 to $1,400 that was a massive expansion but what this has allowed these folks to do is buy up even more real estate they are the main buyers they hold the investment they go long which is of course renting the property every property that they purchase well it keeps it off of the bank's books as a default any of them that do default will guess what they buy them up and it takes them off the bank's books so it actually is a clearing house for the banks while at the same time it allows the municipalities to collect taxes based on that home is purchased whoever owns it pays the taxes and it's occupied meaning your area also looks normal That's basically part of the food stamp program if everybody is given a certain allotment of money and the retailers are able to extract that money then basically it serves to keep your cities in towns looking normal wow at the same time there's businesses function meaning they pay taxes and of course their employees pay taxes so it's all about keeping shit looking normal which is why I don't really think there's going to be any serious cuts made especially to what they want to say is entitlement programs because the biggest collectors of entitlement programs are businesses!

Well every local gas company works slightly differently and I will say that in my central Ohio town every year a lot of people get on the budget everybody agrees to it and then come March they're all bitching that they have to then pay a lump sum difference so the budget doesn't necessarily work out to be any cheaper it depends on what they hit you up with in March sometimes it's February that you would pay the difference of what they think they should have made That's basically what it is so they might tell you that your budget is $50 a month but then come somewhere late February into the middle of March you're going to get a bill for $300 plus that month it might even be $150 plus that month if you're lucky it's like playing the lottery you never know what they're going to come up with and every year I've got to hear everybody bitch about it it's like we'll stop going on the budget just pay the damn bill but of course I understand you know you don't always have the money to pay it in full. So I argue don't run the furnace all that much cover up with blankets especially somewhere in October through most of December because around here it's been pretty mild for a couple of decades Don't run the hell out of it and then if you have to carry a bit of a balance on the damn thing well use your tax refund somewhere in the spring to pay off the difference forget it or use your tax refund to cover what you owe on the budget but basically it boils down to everybody wants everything all at once and they don't seem to realize they got a budget for this stuff.

All the more reason to buy and live on an acreage. On an acreage, with a well, raised bed gardens with trellises up to 8' tall can provide over one year of food if harvested and stored correctly. If affordable, now is good time to leave the urban, NON-SURVIVABLE ENVIRONMENT. Hundreds of pounds of root vegetables are easily grown and watered by the well. Having a greenhouse even lengthens a growing season. I am growing herbs in my greenhouse, a big money saver. Even with this acreage it will not be an easy risk-free life. There are a lot of long 10-12 plus hour days of sweat labor to make it work. Nothing is guaranteed, but the probability to survive is so much greater.

@ There’s preserving the food you grow. Canning and dehydrating takes a lot of time. Keeping your pantries clean & organized takes time. Making three meals a day takes time. Washing everyone’s dirty work clothes takes time. Repairing and/or maintaining tools & equipment takes time. Cutting & stacking firewood takes time. Building maintenance takes time. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know it takes time & hard work to maintain a homestead.

Just remember that Noah warned with the same message for 100 years that a flood was coming while building an ark in the DESERT! Everyone got sick and tired and laughed UNTIL THE DAY IT STARTED TO RAIN! I always like those movies where the crowds are standing looking at the ark while laughing and then drops of rain begin to fall and THEN their faces show the expression "Oh, Oh!"!!! Right now we have MORE than drops of rain. We are already in the beginning of thunderstorms and lightning!

Well there is such thing as normalcy bias but I will say where a lot of these people take it is straight up delusional behavior they don't really want to believe I think in the dark and depths of the night say around 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning they do know the truth The blinders perhaps come off for even just a few minutes and they see where it's headed but they get scared so it's easier if it's a bury their heads in the sand they subscribe to a whole host of positive horseshit and of course it's all a coping mechanism because there again I think that they know where it's headed and just think they don't really want to believe it they don't really know what to do about it and even if they do know what to do about it are they living in the proper area that they would be able to do something about it in terms of say hunting and fishing would they be able to do that much can they get to the hunting and fishing grounds safely in other words can they escape the city particularly if something did happen? Every individual has their own reasons for why they would believe or disbelieve everybody has their own reasons why they know the proper thing to do would be to perhaps leave the area that they're in but they don't because something is keeping them there it could be a girlfriend it could be a boyfriend if they're a woman it might be something as simple as they like the sandwich shop down the street and they don't want to leave they might convince themselves that as long as they can get their sandwich they're happy there's no reason to run there again they're delusional but they chose that because what's the alternative to believe basically a bunch of scary stuff it doesn't matter that it may be fact it's a matter that it's a bunch of scary stuff. And then you have a situation to where yeah a lot of people do subscribe to the normalcy bias because well it's not just this channel it's talking about these sort of things The stuff has been talked about since the very late '90s early 2000s I mean remember when the History channel Discovery channel and TLC got in on running specials about this potential problem and society going crazy there's gridlock on the freeways The towns are deserted there's gangs that control everything I mean this shit has been talked about and over talked about for what 25 26 years I mean it's a good idea that everybody is sending alert that the play nice society is merely a thin veneer and it very well can go away at any given moment and there's a whole host of things that would cause that but on the other hand much like a lot of shit people have become rather wrapped up in it so you have the ones who walk around oblivious and or they wish to remain oblivious but then you also have those on the other end of these spectrum that they live and breathe nothing but disaster The middle ground with each passing hour is basically disappearing. I think some of these people find the topic interesting because I can remember this sort of thing being discussed in the 90s not just the late '90s when television got in on it but there was always the theory of the collapse of society but the situation in the '90s was people would talk about it in the same manner that you would gather around a campfire until weird scary stories it was largely for entertainment and that's why a lot of people don't necessarily take it seriously don't forget everybody wants to go back in time there's the big push for nostalgia of decades past there's a reason for that because you can talk about these sort of things and not necessarily be scared to the bone you could talk about these things in a hypothetical way and though it might be interesting in a bit creepy it was the same difference as a campfire on Halloween and you're going to tell some scary stories it was for entertainment purposes and you could snap out of it and go right back to your Mary go normal life what these people are finding is anytime they look at this stuff it does sync up with a lot of things they've seen and it scares the shit out of them to the core they can't necessarily just snap out of it and go back to their merry go normal they can but it takes a while so they would assume to just comp normalcy bias anytime they see it it's delusional it's not full fledge normalcy bias they've crossed the line into delusion.
