Perfect timing is December till April, so avoid the snow in the UK while being in the beach. Cost, well compared to the UK, everything is 10x cheaper! Makes sense to live here part of the year! And the people are kind, English speaking!

The best months ti be in the Philippines is April May June. This is the flowering and fruiting season. There is abundance of mangoes, papayas, bananas, soursop, and some other types of fruits you havent seen

From a local perspective, you can exchange your US$ at the airport, or at money change counters in the malls (in Manila, Cebu). Or you can withdraw from your bank account thru ATMs that dispense Philippine Peso. Word of caution though to bring cash when headed to the province like El Nido where ATMs come far in between, not to mention instances when they are out of service.

Even some experienced backpackers are having a challenging time exploring Philippines and Siargao is a relatively small island, (it has a nice country/island vibe there but their small airport is actually just recently been open so you get the idea).
