I only feel comfortable riding mongo and if I try to push regular my balance feels super off. I’m really insecure about it and I skate in non skating areas (my apartment complex, at a park, etc.)
@DisguisedRory4 жыл бұрын
@@alexysese1437 As a kid I used to ride mongo all the time. With 23 i picked up a skateboard again (25 now) and tried to relearn pushing to not use mongo anymore but regular. I took my Board to work everyday, tried to ride as often as possible and i must have looked like the biggest beginner ever, but eventually i got over the uncomfortable part. Now mongo still feels more "safe" but regular doesnt feel wrong anymore. It feels super wrong at the start and it will take its time, but you will get used to it and see what positive aspects it gives to ride regular.

No matter how new you are the top skaters in your park will appreciate that a lot and tell you no we take turns or you are good they aren’t skating that thing right now but thanks etc skateboarders are a collective of misfits remember the best ones have spent tons of hours doing this thing they love and they are for sure passionate about it and would love to help you if you ask etc. It’s a good community.

The same people that will give you too little credit at the beginning will give you too much credit after you figure things out. Both messages only messes up your game, so it's best not to care and focus on your craft. @@Placidboy9io that one is really easy. You basically put your front foot with your toe in the nose pocket and your heel over the bolts, and then simultaneously put your back foot down on the ground and pop the nose of the board with your front foot. As long as you pop it straight it will hit the back of your leg and you can catch it with your non-dominant hand.

This guy may have helped me learn how to pop-shovit but he sure makes you think that everything you do is gonna be blamed, and honestly, so what? Skateboarding is for myself, not for people to look at me. So my best advice is do not listen to all this "poser, not poser" bullcrap videos and coments and just do whatever you want and HOWEVER you want it. Make it your own style even. But don't ever let anyone's opinion get in the way. Tony Hawk himself mallgrabs. That should destroy the whole purpose of this video

Tip: if you don’t want to break bones or sprain your ankles, GO FAST. Learn all your tricks going fast. This requires you to learn how to fall correctly (rolling back up to being on your feet), but in the long run, your weight won’t be coming straight down but always forward. This means less gravity pulling on your ankles and knees and shins toward the center of the earth and more force pulling you diagonal and therefore into a slide or roll when you fall (fail). You will end up with more road rash but that’s better than being out for four months as your muscles waste away in a cast. Tip #2: if you do end up in a cast, take a supplement called Glutamine EVERY DAY. It limits muscle wasting (why your arm gets skinny in a cast) and maintains the strength of unused muscles (you’ll keep your muscle memory AND your muscles after your cast is removed!). Tip #3: Go fast. Get some good bearings (Bones Swiss are always a favorite staple). Go fast. Shred around and learn how to get the most out of your pushes. Go fast. It’s more fun and you feel all burly with the wind in your face roaring in your ears. Go fast. A skateboard is a toy. Never forget that. It’s meant to be a fun thing to play with. Soooooooooooooooooo GO FAST!

I skated mongo for many years. Learning to push regular was one of the best things I ever did for my skating, once you learn to push regular you'll wonder on what planet you could've ever thought mongo felt better or more "natural". By all means skate however the hell you want, skateboarding shouldn't have hard & fast rules, but as a former mongo skater I genuinely believe pushing regular is straight up objectively better in every way, and I could not recommend breaking that habit highly enough.

When I was 17, after skating for over 4 years, the "mall grab" saved my legs when a car going through traffic lights hit me. The board slapped along my entire leg and protected me (and I flipped over the car). Had I been carrying the board like you suggest, my legs would have been broken and I could have been dragged under the car and died. The "mall grab", since 1974, has been the only sensible way to carry your board. The car was totally screwed by my wheels and trucks, my board was fine and I skated away after the police came for the driver. GO MALL GRAB!

I agree with everything except I never understood the problem with holding your board by the truck. If you hold it by the nose or the side, your fingertips get chewed up by the griptape. Not to mention every hipster walking around a college campus holds their Pennyboard/ longboard by the side. I say carry the board however you want :) or better yet, just ride it!
@NeverStopImprovingSB6 жыл бұрын
It's undoubtedly a silly thing to worry about haha Love your vids by the way Justin!!
@slaskgoblin6 жыл бұрын
Your fingers do NOT get chewed up by the grip tape lol. If you are worried about your fingers you shouldn't grab it by the truck, because if you do grinds the trucks become jagged and there are small sharp pieces of aluminum. That pennyboard/longboard thing did not make any sense.
@wovke1316 жыл бұрын
In the mid 90s when skateboarding began to gain traction many used it as a fashion prop and hung around malls to look “cooler” thus the name mall grab many who used this as a prop were “poser” thus the name mall grab and that’s why people associate it with being a poser
@justinbuice6 жыл бұрын
@Logan Richardson I was thinking the same. If your griptape isn't cutting your fingers, it's either really old or you're using a crappy brand
@jackallevi62036 жыл бұрын
Hate to say it, but maybe you just have sensitive fingers. I’ve used plenty of grip tape brands, plenty that have very rough and deep pockets but I’ve never “torn my fingers up”...and i find it funny how you say “carry your board how you want” and in the same post you mention longboarding and pennyboarding “hipsters” as if they’re inferior for what they ride lol.

You'll find most guys who have been skating for any length of time to be helpful and willing to offer advice as long as you are receptive to hearing it. Skateboarding really comes down to 3 things regardless of your level of experience. Perseverance, repetition and eventually progression. What I would say to beginners is please have some situational awareness while at the park. Watch what lines other skaters are doing and be aware of which obstacles they are using so you don't accidentally cut them off or "snake" them as it's referred to.

24 years ago I had poop foot. Thanks to my fellow skate brethren I was able overcome this disease. this was an affliction that had hurt many people and had to be addressed. After an intervention and shown the ill of my crap foot i took action to better myself and those around me. Being goofy i duct taped my right shoe to the front of an old deck, set her up and began the healing process. Within days I felt totally different. No lunging off balance, awkward stares from concerned citizens(except for the ones who realized this psycho taped his shoe to his board). And it worked quick. After about a week I removed the tape and my muscle memory had gotten used to proper pushing with my back foot and was no longer afflicted with stank leg. If you know of others that need saved from this mongoism consider the method that saved me 24 years ago. If they are not willing to acknowledge their wrongdoings then drastic measures may be neccesary. At college, for example, do not be afraid to yell as loudly as possible "Get your smelly arse stank leg outta here, sh#t foot." Or bust a smooth back tail to show that skateboarding can look good instead of looking like lunging homosexuals who credit carded each other for fun. One thing I can say about my prior mongoism that was helpful later on in skating switch stance I push with my back foot. So at no time do I hurt myself or others with some smelly arse poop leg. I mean seriously I love Kalis but after a dope bs noseblunt to fakie the last thing I wanna see before the switch crooks is pushing mongo. Be respectful of others and say no to sh#t foot.

sub to pewds it could happen but don’t get discouraged just keep showing up If it’s a real hassle hit it in the morning till you get the confidence and skill you feel you need to hit it at prime time IMO though morning is prime time no ones there so you won’t get in anyone’s way and you can try new things like vert without feeling dumb for falling

I Im in the UK and started skating yesterday. As soon as i went i was just vibing learning and decided to ask someone how to push off faster. I got laughed at by everyone there (im 16 and they were the ages of like 10-15) i just left lmao.

roadmen and chavs in the uk are assholes. at this point i don't even listen to what they say cause there just pathetic. i genuinely had a group of 12 year olds say i was too fat to skateboard without breaking the board. i'm legit 17 and they thought fat jokes would hurt me as if i'd never heard them before. just replies back by saying that if i was really too fat, why was my board still in one piece

I’ve been skating for a while and my sister started recently, I decided I could take her to the skatepark. When we went she was scared of getting laughed at, but the kids there clapped for her, hyped her up and stuff like that. Now she’s much confident:)

lamalogic fortnite skateboards haven’t changed in over 25 years....a few companies have tried different materials, but your avg board is the same thing I was riding in the mid 90’s. The only thing that changed is people’s preference toward wider and longer decks now. It used to be all about a short narrow deck for flip tricks. If anything, boards are heavier because everyone rides decks 8” and wider and 32” long. A deck like that used to get you laughed out of a skate spot.
@battleborn75 жыл бұрын
John Sorg I know right? I strictly rode 7.5-7.62 decks 20 years ago. Now I got a 8.25 lizard king. But this ish is setup light compared to back then. Also helps to not ride 60mm wheels with risers haha had to make them last a while back then

Benjamin SB this guy made this video for insecure people because it’s kinda nerve wracking when you go to skateparks without a lot of knowledge or skill, but this video might not be useful for people like you who don’t care what people think and do it for fun, which is a very good thing, but if your like me then this video would help since I’m insecure, even tho I got better at skating and already knew this information but I still am insecure, so this video makes the beginner skaters who don’t know to much about skating and are insecure feel better, I understand where your coming from and your side of view but I just wanted to let you know my imput on your comment

Hi thanks video & tips, back skating after 30 years off board was talented rider used ride half pipe ollie benches and do big stairs hand rails ect, now first ride out park pump track and skatepark feeling bit clumsy few crashes and needing get my balance dialled need practice to get my confidence back to good level in my mid 40s, been concentrating on my mountain bike skills quite few years so used extreme sports. Really enjoyed it back again after long break just few scratches and bruises no worries !
