Great vid. Stoked for the film. I'm pretty sure that the GMK goji was actually the souls of those killed by the Japanese soldiers and the victims of their crimes, rather than the sacrifices made by the Japanese soldiers. This hits home a lot more when you read up on the history of their war crimes. It also lines up more with Kaneko's political leanings.

Godzilla being a serious horror film would be great! Something with a dark and serious tone with horror. Something like the nuclear holocaust film Threads or the HBO mini series Chernobyl. A film depicting Godzilla as a walking Chernobyl that can fight back and can not only kill you with his immense size but something that contaminates the very land and air it comes into contact with.

People act as though we've never had a Godzilla movie where the plot wasn't an allegory for nuclear weapons, even though Ghidorah the three-headed monster was a metaphor for the rising threat of the Chinese Communist party and Godzilla versus hedorah was a very on the nose metaphor for pollution and climate change. gmk almost completely removed any allegories for nuclear weapons and replace them with the evils that Japan committed in WW2. Godzilla vs. Biollante was a statement on genetic engineering. Even in recent films and media, shin Godzilla was an allegory for the nuclear disaster in Fukushima. The anime trilogy touched on philosophical topics, City on the edge of battle being a statement on posthumanism while the planet eater was a statement on fanatical religion. There's also whatever the fuck Godzilla singular point was about, so we have plenty of Godzilla media that does not focus all that heavily on nuclear weapons and nuclear war.

Looks great, more Godzilla more dinosaurian. But Toho, this new series of movies should include Varan, Anguirus, Baragon, Manda, possibly working as backup for Godzilla against some returning Showa villains, and new ones. Especially Varan deserves a proper formidable rebirth based on the original design. And how about a Destroy All Monsters remake with Varan, Baragon and Manda getting some long overdue screen time. Would love to see Titanosaurus and the Gargantuas return too. So tired of the same old same old...Rodan, Mothra, Ghidorah, MechaGodzilla, etc.

WOW! I COMPLETELY AGREE with everything you said! I'm really hoping that this film is taken seriously and all the "goofiness" is checked at the door... I absolutely LOVE the designs and looks of the kaiju in the "Monster-verse"; but, the silliness of the stories have, with AMAZING success, pulled the narrative rug out from under those films by an order of magnitude! I would love to see the bill of sale for that ridiculous "virtual island" chamber that Kong was held in... How much would something like that COST, WHO flipped the bill for it and how long would it take to CONSTRUCT something like that...?! I'd also like to know the maximum weight-bearing capacity of an aircraft carrier contrasted against the combined weight of Godzilla and Kong! I think the thing that really brings the FEAR of Godzilla home is if we get to see the toll in human lives. Not just the material destruction of cities; but, rather the pain and anguish of the unfortunate ones who SURVIVED the attack. Given the severity of their injuries and torments it would probably have been more merciful if they hadn't... The original film touched on this and THAT'S what hit me like a freight train! I was thinking about the different Godzillas in terms of sexual dimorphism. Perhaps humans found a gathering of smaller female Godzillas, became fearful of what kind of destruction they COULD POTENTIALLY cause and used the bomb to wipe them out. The male Godzilla, who lives alone and apart from the females, is damaged by the blast and being protective (and in pain) goes on a rampage... Not exactly original; but, everything's pretty much been done in one sense or another at this point. I'd like to see a SEMI-LIQUID breath weapon...like white-hot plasma or something similar. A radiated and highly corrosive mucus that's more of a residue from the internal damage the creature has taken from the bomb... When he spews it out it's not so much an "attack" as it is the creature trying to relieve himself of the pain by vomiting it up...(?)

Took the words right out of my head. ESPECIALLY, the more misty spray used in 54. I usually catch flak for suggesting a "back to roots" Godzilla not being as large. Then, if they want to scale him up toward the end that's fine. For a bit I thought this was the older & smaller Godzilla found at the beginning of 2014 to kind of tie it in to the Monsterverse without TYING it into the Monsterverse. Glad he's scaled down for this Godzilla. Stepping through the street so it explodes and kills people looks GREAT.

I have wanted this for a while since Shin when I really disliked him having reused roars from other eras instead of his own defining roar. The same thing happened with the anime Godzilla's where Goji had yet again reused roars. I really want minus one Goji to have his own unique roar! At least a spin on 54 and 55 roars will satisfy me.

I think it would be interesting if originally G is just a 50 meter super-predator amphibious theropod awakened by the war, and America trying to be helpful decides to atomic bomb him -- creating the horribly scarred larger nuclear powered breath-ray-mist regenerating unstoppable nightmare which requires something like the Oxygen Destroyer, potentially worse than the hydrogen bomb (as it's described in G54/55) to have a chance at winning. A lot could be done with those themes.

I want a truly horrifying Godzilla movie. Destruction, loss of life, with radiation sickness long after. I want a scary Godzilla. The final form of Shin Godzilla was absolutely terrifying! He looked burned and scarred. I did not care for the forms changing nor the laser tail, lasers out of his back, but i do understand there needed to be something different we havent seen yet. I would like to see bodies all over, destroyed cities, apocalyptic themes.

two things to say, or a thing and a half I expected something more about trains, maybe something funnier regarding the rivalry between godzilla and trains, in every movie there are trains on his way and it's even a 70-year-old meme, but you made your point, there has to be a train . When you said you wanted to see more about humans I freaked out a bit. You have to take into consideration that the "modern audience" is quite unaware of what the human side represents in these movies (toho), they are used to godzilla from hollywood, whose humans and their stories are bad. The movie is *entirely* about nuclear war, that's the primary thesis of the film, the whole conflict is based around the A.N.E.B. arms race that would end the era of mutually assured destruction and open the door to unrestrained open nuclear war. That's... that's the plot of the movie. How did you miss that?

I still believe "Gojira" is the best of all the Godzilla films (NOT the Ramond Burr, 1955 version). Shin Gojira is the 2nd best. 1984 is the third. What I am sincerely hoping for is a true, horror, Godzilla, that surpasses the original, 1954, Gojira. I want darkness, suspense, and brutality.

If I remember right, and the situation didn't change completely, there isn't a SHIN GODZILLA 2 because they wait for the director(s) to be ready for that again, because they're quite buisy, with several things (including mental health!?), so technicly speaking it's still possible for SG2 to be a thing!? Personally I think Godzilla and Kong are too big now. Unless they have special vision how do they even recognize individual humans? I mean it’s like humans are insect size now. Having them scaled back down would make more sense if interactions are occurring with specific humans. Kong and Godzilla are portrayed as intelligent. Giving them god like size makes more sense if they were not having human interaction and just destructive.But the Monsterverse movies are showing them basing some of their responses on human interactions.

Godzilla is pissed, apex created a weapon to fight Godzilla but they need help so a small monarch team along with kong is gonna get it while a small team investigate apex. Not hard to follow. It's way easier to follow then BvS and it's overly long story. It didn't need 3 hours to tell it's story and it still ended up being crap. 7:57 your not gonna count 84? I’m hoping they do take this in a pure horror direction. Godzilla’s anti-nuclear message is as important now as it was in 1954. With the war in Ukraine and China continuing to violate Japan’s airspace forcing it to militarize I feel like we need a true 1954 reboot now more than ever. The original movie may seem tame to most modern audiences but to the Japanese that lived through the horrors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki it would’ve been devastating to watch. The mother and children preparing to be engulfed in flame and the young girl being tested with the geiger counter are horrific experiences they may of lived through personally before seeing that film. I think by updating that original movie and showing more of the off screen consequences that it could put us in the shoes of the survivors of first and hopefully last victims of nuclear warfare. If the director decides to go that route with this movie I hope they don’t pull any punches.

I know I'm probably in the minority when I say this, but after watching all the Godzilla movies over the decades, I think the original '54 version is still the best, despite the cheap rubber costumes and cheesy acting. It was darker, had a more human suffering plot and had the element of surprise (no one knew what Godzilla was). Today, the element of surprise is totally gone. Godzilla itself is all CGI. Too much "in-your-face" blurry action that's boring and desensitizing and you get destruction burnout. The design of the creature is too compicated and has been getting worse over the years. Godzilla always has more bumps, spines, callouses and is usually bigger, taller and thicker than the one before it like they are trying to out-do each other. The atomic breath has been exaggerated to the point of being ridiculous as demonstrated in Shin Godzilla. The franchise is all about leveling buildings. The human suffering has been stripped away, as has the whole premise of Godzilla being the symbolization of the dangers of nuclear weapons like the original movie was. I'll watch the movie, and I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not expecting much.

It's been so long since Shin and we've since gotten these larger than life movies by Warner Bros with a wonderful cast of Keiju! Rodan Mothra MUTOs KING KONG Mechagodzilla "Evil" Godzilla Do audiences in Japan really want to repeatedly, in one movie, sit through a 20 minute board room of college kids brainstorming about how to freeze Godzilla...yet again?
