Very well explained, thank you Nial. I'm an Estimator currently looking at Revit to pull quantities from models & got a lot from this video so thank you very much. Interested in techniques to alter dodgy geometry from existing models. Splitting/ itemizing measures. e.g. atm I have an issue with Blocks of Buildings being too generic e.g. Block F has three separate buildings in it which I need to separate. But because the category/ family is all the same I'm a bit stuck with trying to itemize them.

No problem at all, glad you found it in some ways informative. Yeah with Quant takeoffs you really want to be inheriting very intentionally pieced together models, where item categories and nomenclature are well structured in order to speed up the scheduling process. If things are all just assigned as generic models or similar your life will be very awkward. Are you sure the models are not derived from another authoring software and just linked in as a single family type? For example, I have seen ACIS mesh building models saved into 3D cad files previously which were then all loaded into generic models category families and loaded into a Revit Project file. Absolute disaster to try do anything with that kind of information.

@@8020BIM Thanks Nial, it was very informative! It's not as bad as being imported from external software in a single family type. They've created it in Revit as I have good family break-downs etc... just not as itemized as I need. TBH to their credit if I was drafting the model I would not want to covariantly break-down each itemized block & understand why they've done that. It doesn't help that my first model in Revit is £0.5 Billion; would've been nice to have a small one to experiment with lol. I was trying to use spaces & zones to covariantly give me more itemization but haven't had much luck with it so far. Thanks again bud.

As usual remarkable tutorial for revit, again thank you very much, if you allow I can add one more tip that I consider important when selecting the menaux and the curtain wall panels to control their types in all directions simply by selecting a component and click on the right button

Absolutely Ben - thanks for the additional note! Not sure if you have watched it previously but I have done a very detailed video on Curtain Wallling and Cladding modellign in Revit before if you wanted to give that a watch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3m7f6x3eb2WaZI Hope you are keeping well Ben. Niall

Could you please shed some light on the subjects of selecting multiple elements in the linked model and how to delete the orphaned data smartly instead of looking for each of them manually and then deleting them individually.
@8020BIM
@8020BIM 2 жыл бұрын
To select multiple items in a link the easiest "Revit Native" way of doing it is to go to your selection options and turn off everything except the linked model information. This will speed up you selections but you still will not be able to undertake a "select all " function for an element type. You can however then select the entirety of the linked model geometry in one "click- drag-click" and then use the filter to isolate an object category. For orphaned data I am assuming you are speaking specifically about orphaned tags in a native model that were originally tagging a now removed element in the link? I haven't tried this en-masse as per your suggestion but you could likely itemise the tags in the project, filter the tag schedule down to those which have a value and delete the rows of those that don't. Hope this gives you some insights to play around with Ark. Pop on over to the discord community channel if you would like to talk with like minded people on the topic. discord.gg/EktFCUh4 Niall
