A sad Story. How many women had to live this sort of life? This may not be a true story, but it is true enough.

The novel by Margaret Atwood was based on contemporaraneous reports and court documents. It is a true crime story.

Yup. Unfortunately, we have birth control but many women still allow themselves to be used, impregnated, and discarded.

This is the side of women’s history people need to see. Not the sanitized Bridgerton version. This is the place we’ll head back to if women’s rights are not maintained.

Yes, it was this and worse. Women always blamed for getting pregnant even when it was usually rape by the men in power. In London women would throw themselves of a bridge to spare themselves the shame of being an unwed mother. The men always got away with it, they were already married or of too high a station to be forced to marry a servant or working class woman "of loose morals'. Being married also didn't save the women from abuse. All through history the women lived the same lives, no matter the time or skin colour, they had it the worst.

@chaosspy6723 that's the point. That people prefer a purely fictional vision of a golden past rather than grappling with the true horrors of those times.

I think she's bipolar and is aware of this fact. (Not the diagnosis, but that sometimes Grace isn't herself but a completely different girl) So she puts up a facade and tells lies because she can't explain this to the people around her

The presented all of the evidence and let the audience decide themselves. If I recall from the show, there was also some doubt that she was Grace, there was thought that she might have been Mary pretending to be Grace and told Grace's story as her own.
@silvacleo3293 ай бұрын
No, she didn’t lied, cause it was the testimony of the ginger guy, that had swayed the judge and jury against her… and bc of him she was in prison all those years.
@LazerTrout3 ай бұрын
@@Shridra This seems to be meant to be more of a realistic story, and I have not watched the series, but my theory from this is that one character does appear when tragedy is about to hit. Hypnosis guy? People believe, what they want to. Woman with mental issues like these.. Well. Push the right buttons, etc... And the doctor did not know the identity of the hypnosis guy. So the mystery ate him alive. I have other notes, but now I am curious. I need to watch the full series before I make another theory.
@Shridra3 ай бұрын
@@LazerTrout don't quote me on this because it's been a bit since I watched it (It was on CBC here in Canada a couple of years back) but I believe it was based on a true story, which is probably why you're getting that feeling that it seems more realistic =) And yes, the trader/hypnotist was a bit of a mystery for sure
@LazerTrout3 ай бұрын
@@Shridra If that's the case, I probably shouldn't look at it from a "story mystery" point of view. Though I suspect the hypnosis guy is story flavor at least. Shit I really gotta watch the series. Thanks for the info!
