Thanks Todd and Nee Nee for the visit. Loved the sound track, Neil young is definitely my kind of music. Although I am not sure about the "old man" lyrics as I only stopped being middle aged a few weeks ago. I think we need to do a follow up some time to answer some of the questions , and some of the things I forgot to say. How about a skype when all the episodes are finished?

@@NowinLao no, i watched your videos :D i don't believe in 2 opposing political sides in order to form a government. i believe in meritocracy. but i still want freedom, within limits as a society. i don't believe you can do whatever you want and disregard your neighbors. what i'm pissed off is that the invoke the 'war act', against people voicing their opinion that the forced vaccine is bullshit. i don't trust western big pharma$$$, i want to get the sinovac or sinopharm.... but because geopolitics bullshit, canada does not give choice to it's population....... we are forced to buy western vaccines via tax money. i have 0 covid infection, but i am not allowed to leave canada unless i 1st get vaccinated.... ironically unvaccinated travellers can enter canada. this means unvaccinated incoming travellers have more priviledge than the fucking canadian citizens who want to exit the country, with 0 infections. you still CANNOT leave the country with test showing 0 covid. how the fuck can i get out and get myself vaccinated if i can't leave.

@@smithsamson7342 That is quite a dilemma you have there. At some point I believe Covid will be classed as a regular flu and all restrictions will be lifted. So hang in there buddy and plan your life to be in a place that has more freedoms. One minor point there are land taxes here which vary depending on a number of factors, but none of them are excessive.

Chris is quite the character. He has a lot to say. Thank you for reaching out to a subscriber who reached out to you. There must be more ex-pats in Lao that have a story to tell. Todd, you have hit a nerve that resonates with people including us. People who want to live simply and return to the earth. Not a divided people, but engaged in a sense of community. Thank you both for this. What Chris was saying about the black soldier fly larvae in the US is spot on. We get those guys once it's reliably not dropping below freezing in central Virginia and they do some major work in the compost bins. The chickens love them. But they are very expensive to buy. We're fortunate to be in the right area so we don't have to buy them; they just show up. We keep our hens in a mobile coop called a chickshaw and use portable electric netting to move them around the yard or garden. I must admit that I'm quite jealous of this life you're living. And what you guys said about people being happy when they ignore politics is so true. I've never met a politically active, or even politically informed, person in the US that was happy. I can't wait for part two.

Todd, great once again. Thanks for introducing us to Chris. I am not sure I could live like Chris does, but kudos to him. Wish I had retired sooner, now counting the days until July 30 when I chuck it in. Still have not decided between Thailand and Laos. The main advantage of the former is the sea, but maybe living on that large reservoir near Vientiane would compensate. Looking forward to part 2.

I am wondering what it is about my life that you find so difficult for you to follow You have your whole retirement ahead of you, have you thought about what you would like it to be like? What is it about a body of water that makes you feel you need to be next to one. I ask these questions because I think we all need to think hard about what we want out of life as opposed to someone elses preconceived views.

@@chrisperkins7331 Hi Chris, don’t get me wrong, I am full of admiration for your lifestyle. It is just that I don’t think I could be a farmer. I wasn’t very good at looking after our backyard when I had one. I grew up on the the south coast of England so beaches were part of my childhood. I now live in Chicago and enjoy walking along Lake Michigan. But the winter is unbearable. Since an early age I have been interested in Asia, so am impatient to retire there in a few months. I am very interested in Laos and can certainly live simply, but I do need a considerable body of water-either a large lake or the sea. Colin

@@malin5468 Hi Colin Apologies for my wording. The point I was making was "why is it so important for people to live near a body of water" Everybody knows that land near water, whether sea, lake , and river, is always more expensive. So I was wondering if you had asked yourself that question?

My wife and her family were moved by the government 3 times over 6 years at the end of the war. The village we live in was hacked out of the jungle as place for them to live. In 82 the government decided they were no longer a threat, so did not have to move again. I met my wife in Vang Vieng, and we ran a cheap backpacker GH till 2014, then moved to her mothers land where we built a house for ourselves to live in.

Hi Todd,,,I have to start with the Neil tune. Perfect road tripping music! Great remix too. Now,,What an interesting man,Chris is! Cockney Chris! Great little farm and what an amazing,,energetic 74 year old. Boy,,would I ever love to chat with him about his travels,,,and particularly 1973. That story reminds me of a published article,,,must have been mid 80s,,a trip to Lao,,,and it wasnt pleasant. Shit rooms,,shit food,,and being watched all the time. I never really completely believed that story before,,but I kinda think I do now. Interesting stuff. Chris is definitely worth a part 2 and even more. Beauty piggies! That big boar was a creepy killer looking dude. I had to lol at the man killer designation. Most Americans have no clue how vicious pig can be. When I working on the ranch,, we got a show and she had about 10 piglets. Regular food ,,they were friendly pets. During deer season,,we made the mistake of throwing a couple deer carcasses after we butchered.holy shit,,I didn't go into that pen for a week. Those 6 month old pigs turned into demon spawn after eating that red meat. They crunched up every bone,,still just scraps were left. In about 82 a family friend outside of Cheyenne Wyoming,,,made the news. He lived on the main east west line of the Union Pacific railroad,,and every once in awhile they would get a hobo off the trains. One kind of cold morning he went to feed the pigs,,,and they were acting kind of wild,,and found a boot,,,,that still had a foot in it. The investigators figured a cold bum,,come off the train ,,curled up in a straw nest and that was that. They figured he was drunk,,,because our friend never heard yells or anything. Shit,,,I hadn't recalled that gross story in years.. Definitely ready for part 2,,,be safe brother,,Ttyl,,,Marlon

Todd you should pitch a reality show called Duckweed Rescue. You had a lot more success than Chris growing that plant. I was hoping you were going to have lunch there with that noisy rooster as the main course.

Yeah!!!!!! Lao is affordable place to live, because costs for living not to expensive if you live in country side, but not in the big city pretty the same in USA. Ifyou want to build a house in vieng tiane you 've to have at lease200.000 dollars may be mor than that believeme.😀😀😀😀😀

Why is everyone named Chris, I used to think it was just all my fellow millennials who were named Chris, but it seems like every boomer and Gen X is named Chris too! The thing is I like my name I don't want to change it even if everyone else has it, and I guess all the other Chris' feel the same way too. Edit: Good video, really enjoyed hearing about his life and farm, look forward to part 2
