I can't believe I just found your channel recently! I'm half of a husband-wife coach-athlete team and have loved watching some of your training and racing vlogs as inspiration for my videos. As a college miler, my pre-race ritual was as follows: - balanced breakfast with sufficient fiber, fat, and protein to last a few hours - several hours of cheering on my teammates while lounging under the team tent - occasional snacks of the very strange combo of trail mix, cheese-its, and cheerios. Don't ask me how, but somehow in high school I started snacking on this at track meets and that was the year I was top 10 at the state meet - 1-2 mile jog 1 hr pre-race, followed by drills and strides with PLENTY of rest. - 10 minutes pre-race I would go over my strategy and tactics, have a quick word with my coach, say a prayer, and then let training and instinct take over!

You are such an inspiring athlete, Lucy! Thank you for being who you are, picking up challenges along the way and showing that you can have fun with the sports even at professional level. Pre-race rituals are very important for me too - starting from what I eat from breakfast, what music I listen to when reaching to the race venue (I am a cross-country cyclist so it takes a while to reach places) to what mantra I say to myself, how long I warm up for and how many minutes before the race I take a gel. Keeping those things in line really calms my brain down and puts me into the "racing mode".

Living in a small town where not much happens, I always have to take the train to get to a race (and I love being on trains, even if it's just for a short ride). I don't know if this counts as a ritual, but thinking about how lucky I am to be able to do this 'pointless,' 'senseless,' and beyond beautiful activity of running always brings a big smile to my face. So that's my 'ritual': smiling through the window like a dog.

Loved this video! My pre-race ritual is two-slices of dry toast followed by a quick, five-minute meditation to center myself. I then take the time to stretch, listening to my body, reminding it of how far it has come on this journey to get in this moment, taking in the atmosphere. I then plug in my AirPods, listen to my favorite playlist, and tune everything out until it is time to race.

Loving the videos. My pre-race ritual after my warm up is always getting my earphones on, turning the volume up , putting on my favourite feel good tunes and having a bit of a dance and shake out. This helps me to get rid of the nerves and feel as relaxed as possible before going over that start line

I predict my pre-race ritual will involve shotting some beetroot juice and definitely doing my go-to yoga flow to get my mind and body READY TO DOMINATE hehe! Another great video - thanks team. Cheering ya'll on as ever! x

I'm still processing how is that possible that 50m pool divided by that thing in the middle gives you 2x25m pools. Probably magic.
@tubbyisnofatty
@tubbyisnofatty 13 күн бұрын
The pool is not 50m total length, its 50m + the boom, (probably like 55m) and it normally stays at one end. Does that make sense?
@alex31721able
@alex31721able 13 күн бұрын
So when it's set to be long course 50m that bit in the middle (boom) is on the one side of the pool. So the pool is actually bigger than 50m if it was empty (which it never is). You just move the boom to the middle and still have more than 50m but the boom takes up the extra and either side is 25m. Not sure that makes sense the way I wrote it but hope that helps

Tldr the boom doesn't leave the pool you can just move it. So it doesn't have any affect on overall length just where you position it divides the pool up

Congrats on the great swim results! So nice to see you doing other events despite the long racing year! I've just started racing this year (in part inspired by your videos) so no ritual just yet except from going over the food/bike/shoes one thousand times. I can only imagine what it's like having the same ritual for so long, how the body and mind must get into gear when you start your ritual and you know instinctively, you're ready to push 🙌

Great video! When I was little my grandma always came to my meets and as her favourite song was "Asereje" she would always put it on and she did silly dances to it in the car because it made me laugh and take away a lot of nerves. She´s no longer with us, but now before every competition I always listen to it and give a kiss to the necklace she gave me ❤❤❤

My pre-race routine always involves listening to music-my favorite is still Thunderstruck by AC/DC. It helps me get into a positive headspace and avoid dwelling on everything that might go wrong. Since I approach races more for participation than for winning, I imagine my routine isn’t as strict or finely tuned as a pro like yours. Love your content!

I never win these things but that’s ok because I love your channel and love what you do for the sport of triathlon! My pre race routine (other than peeing a hundred times) is to tell myself to enjoy it and to try and visualise the different parts of the race (and how I’ll break it down into smaller parts in my head if it’s a longer one). Thanks Lucy and team!

Lucy you are such an inspiration, breaking records left and right! My pre-race ritual is sleeping in as much as possible and then having a really tight eating/getting ready schedule to make sure I am a half hour early to any competition. Sleeping in helps me manage my anxiety because I get super super nervous whenever I race for anything. And then being early also helps me see people stroll in and feel like I belong in the space before it's go time.

Great video and congratulations on your record! For my pre-race ritual, I start stretching the day before whenever I think to do it. Whether it’s during class, during work, or playing games I try to get as loose as possible. Then race morning I usually wake up a couple hours early to have a quiet time and get my head in order. Right before the race I try to stretch out my quads and ham-strings because the adrenaline tends to make them stiffen up.

My prerace ritual and the one from all my athletes is to visualize the mental challenges I and they will face during the race. It will get hard, how does that feel and then imagine how it feels to finish the race off. I have huge respect for you to donate the fee. I imagine it is quite time consuming to do those cameos. I take a quiet moment to center myself, and then it’s go time! 😊

My pre-race ritual/routine is pretty simple. I put my goggles on and take a few breaths, imagining the task ahead. I slap my chest a few times (which is less satisfying with a wetsuit on), and I bark like Joe Skipper if it's a triathlon. Pure swim races have less anonymity, so I avoid the barking there. Instead, I step on the starting block twice with my right foot before the whistle is blown for me to stand on it. Great video! Your fundraising efforts are super admirable, too.

A banana about 30 mins before race time and some water as well. I also try and remember the journey to the race, the good days and the not so good and I try and congratulate myself for making it there. Thank you for your videos, they really keep me going!

That brings back some memories 😄 I last swam National Masters at Ponds Forge in 1992... I'd already made the switch to Tri's when my second call club got in touch and asked if I'd swim the freestyle leg in the 4x50 Medley relay because they had a good team but lacked a decent freestyle sprinter at that time... so I had 6 weeks to switch from 1500m open water swimmer back into a freestyle sprinter 😆 I was two stone underweight for sprinting and down on power but my fitness was off the chart after all that Tri training 😂 Am 60+ now and still do the local Sprint Tri once a year 🙂

The ritual is spending a few minutes alone in calm to remind myself about a purpose and what I’m raising for ☺️ Congrats on the record!

My pre race ritual is two rice cakes with pb&j and some coffee, arrive with plenty of time to stretch, warm up and listen to some Black Pumas. Loved the video! I would love to someday complete a full ironman

My pre-race ritual is first listening to some 'pump' music with a high temp... then I make sure to consume easily-digestible carbs, do some static and dynamic stretching, AND SMILE OF COURSE 😁 Right before my race I think about everything I'm thankful for and who I am racing for: myself and my family. Then I rip in and hopefully do my best!

My pre race ritual is pretty simple - lots of rest, some good simple food the day before , and stretching whilst listening to a meditation to get my head in a calm place. Congrats on the record🎉

My pre-race ritual is a second bathroom stop, a warmup jog, and a series of dynamic stretches and movements. I also like to arrive at transition early to make sure everything is as I like. And lots of visualization!

Great video guys! I don’t really have a pre race ritual yet doing my first half Ironman in July next year! Could be a great video to make for us newbies!

Awesome video! My pre race ritual is spending some quiet time with a cup of coffee remembering how far I’ve come and mentally preparing to race. I then put on a bit of Eminem and get ready for go time 🔥

Great video!! My pre race ritual is blasting music while singing in the bathroom for after the pre race nervous poops 😅 it’s odd but it works for me!! I also try and wake up my boyfriend who is normally asleep by the time I start the race!

Love the videos and huge ammount of respect for the Cameo donations . I dont have a pre-race ritual but my post race ritual is always a photo of me and the dog wearing the medal. Which i guess i think about during a race too

Amazing record well done LCB. Pre race ritual is boiled egg mayonnaise wrap whilst breathing exercises and visualising the race stages. Boiled eggs are the key though!

Great video again, love it!! My race or workout ritual is that I always put both of my bike or running shoes on and than I tight them :) I can't put one on and tight it before the other one is also on my foot 😅😂 (maybe not the best thing in transition 🙈)

Loved watching this! Is there anything you can’t do!?😮 pre race meal is always a bagel with peanut butter, banana, cinnamon, honey and pink salt 2-3 hours before, then 3-4km warm up jog, drills, strides, change shoes, and 1000+ visits to the Porto loo! When I’m on the start line I always take one deep breath and just remind myself this is supposed to be fun!😊

Great video as always!! My pre comp ritual back when I was competing in snowboarding consisted in visualizing my run 3 times while sitting on top of the half pipe in absolute silence before all the other competitors would arrive. The calm before the storm kind of thing. I never won so I guess it didn't work hahahahah
