Dumbbells hit the chest, elbows locked and the weights touched at the top. This is not ego lifting, this is a workout. Better than most social media weightlifters.
@JulioGarcia-pm1oh3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean locked in? I’m new not to sure what that means in workouts.
@WaywardVector3 жыл бұрын
@@JulioGarcia-pm1oh when you lock your elbows it means when you extend you arm out to the point where the elbow joint cannot move any further.
@Borgilian3 жыл бұрын
@@WaywardVector I'm a beginner lifter, but... isn't locking your elbows a bit pointless? When you hold the weight above your chest, you're barely activating the chest muscle at that point, with the arms doing most of the work sustaining the weight. Same thing when the weights are lowered close to the chest. Then there's also the fact that the chest muscle is not fully put in tension in this type of exercise... you're not performing full range of motion, due to the weights being in the way and knocking into each other above your chest. Not to mention that you can hurt yourself on a heavy dumbbells bench press when you can't push anymore, and risk dropping the dumbbell, which might take your arm with it in the opposite direction and screw up your shoulder. As a matter of fact, isn't a cable exercise that targets the chest much more efficient and safer at this point? It allows you to keep the muscle fully in tension at the peak of the movement, you can load more weight without being afraid of injuring yourself and you've also got full range of motion (your arm can cross your chest and make the chest muscle work fully).
@masonjelvin60013 жыл бұрын
@@Borgilian i’m not gunna read all that but yeah you don’t need the full extension and it’s actually kinda dangerous for that weight. The fact that he IS getting the full extension is pretty impressive though
@aircanada27403 жыл бұрын
@@WaywardVector Just a thought, elbows locked COULD mean not moving side to side. As in locked at his side. In some poor form lifts, you will see elbows swaying as your shoulder and arms try to compensate for your chest.

I think it is implied since this is essentially a body-weight (x2) bench press. Most of the audience is about 150 lbs. And this guy just did 4 reps of 300 lbs (150 lbs per arm) in dumbbells. That's like the goal and aim for a lot of people who workout: work to lift at least 1.5x your bodyweight. This is it.
@vincentreyes61542 жыл бұрын
Not to mention that his form is almost perfect. He extends his arms up all the way, he drops slowly, and he stops when the dumbbells touch his chest. The only problem I have is that he seems to be flaring out his elbows just a touch, as opposed to tucking them closer to his side so as to prevent injury. But what am I kidding, I'm 165 lbs and I can't lift half my own weight. Plus this may just be the camera angle.

I did this with two 85 pound dumb bells in 2008 (that was a lot of weight for me to do dumb bell bench with as I was used to doing all my bench work with barbells). No issue until I was done. My shoulders were too creaky to set them down -- I could tell I would break my shoulders if I did that. And the floor was coated with rubber mats so I couldn't drop them as I was in the Pentagon weight room and a bunch of generals and admirals were working out near me and didnt want one of them to bounce around and hit one of them. So I pulled them in to my center core and sat up. Gave myself a nice umbilical hernia that I just recently got fixed as part of a combo with an inguinal hernia I got this year. I have learned the art of making strength and tone goals without overdoing it. THis guy is doing fine with 150 but still seems like a risk.

This guy and the guy who curled 80 on each arm. Legends.
Notice how even when he fails his final rep, he comes down with a lot of precision and awareness. That goes to show he’s trained for a long time, and isn’t just a person who is naturally very strong and gains mass quickly.
