This felt ok. 7 reps per arm. Different gym and the handles were thicker than im used to. Still doing the slow negative for the last rep for the haters.

Slow reps, positive or negative, are extremely efficient at building strength deep in your muscles. It is often good to alternate explosiveness with slow and controlled reps. You often want to end your sets with one like that, just like you'd do a chair sit against a wall after your legs exercices

Again, not a profesionnal, but I'd assume both. If you can fully control a movement, it means you have the strength to do it, and can only lead to more strength And by creating hypertrophy in your muscle, you increase the volume of your muscles on the long run (if that's what you mean by building muscle)

Please don’t this the wrong way- I would just like to educate myself! I’ve always been taught that when doing bicep curls you want to not rely on swinging weights/the momentum and to keep your elbows still and directly beneath your shoulders, does that mean this way (as shown in video) is correct as well?
@Kenar.E
@Kenar.E 3 жыл бұрын
@@frozenflipflops it depends... with higher weights, for the final reps, it is somehow allowed. Consider this, with a "correct" form you aim to: 1- avoid injuries. 2- focus most of your strength on one specific muscle. BUT it is physically impossible to NOT use other muscles as well. Your movements are complex and are executed through the engage of a lot of muscles in a chain. The most important thing anyway is to stress the specific muscle for that exercise, always keeping in mind to not harm yourself, it is better to swing a bit and give more stress to your fibers than NOT doing one reps. Basically, and I will repeat myself, it depends on your built, your experience and your existent injuries and problems.
@Chrislmisl
@Chrislmisl 3 жыл бұрын
@@frozenflipflops yeah technically its wrong! Its called bicepcurl because the bicep is supposed to do most of the work. The way he does it, he's moving most of the weight with his shoulders. Its a different question if thats allowed or not, but nice form is something else!

@TheMrCaptainStfu There is a big difference between "strict form" used for competition and a natural bicep-curling motion. The strict form you describe is used for beginners or strength-comp only. Furthermore, a natural motion requires an incorporation of the whole body, therefore the little lean from side to side and movement in the shoulders. Eccentrics at this kind of weight are never 3seconds like you get taught in fitness instructor courses. 3-1-2 my ass, everything above a certain weight can´t be controlled like your 5kg dumbbell for side raises. Don´t care if your bodybuilding, powerlifting or doing another athletic sport like american football, this is the way your bicep-curl should look like. True story bro. Only newb bodybuilders who just heard of isolation-movements believe that shit you write. Not sure if trolling or just insanely jealous. So yeah, Stfu TheMrCaptainStfu
