Mine has 307K on it. Replace the bad regulator thingie on the side of the trans and put a trans cooler on it. Suspension rebuilt, starter, compressor, radiator, power steering hoses, muffler, etc. But still has original engine in it. BTW it's a beast. I'd drive it cross country any day. And yes, it's the same color of green. I have a class III hitch on it and have pulled its max hundreds of miles but usually only half its max thousands of miles.

My Trooper is a 1993, and runs like a charm. At 122,000 miles the body needs paint, the windshield washer fluid plastic container just dried out in the desert sun and cracked. Nothing done to engine or transmission. Engine does have that tapping sound, especially on start up (valves?). Still using original light bulbs in headlights and brake lights, etc. Head liner perfect. Some of the grill attachments broken and the plastic around the driver's seat is loose. Same muffler. Have had radiator replaced and front wheel bearings and suspension due to vibration in steering wheel over 55 mph. It has carried horse equipment, moved furniture from two houses, and no oil leaks. Looks like garbage from the outside, so no one wants to steal it. Also no one wants to park near it in parking lots. Has passed every smog inspection for 27 years in California and Nevada with no special repairs needed. It is now like a member of the family. TOO BAD ISUZU ALLOWED CONSUMER REPORT TO BULLY THEM OUT OF THE SUV MARKET IN THE U.S.

Ive had 3 Troopers over the years, my 87 and 91 were tanks, the they both had over 250k. The manual trans was great. My 2001 (and i maintain my vehicles), looked and ran great, but the Chevy Auto Trans was the weak link. With the closed Transmission my first rebuild of the trans was at 147k. 2 years later it was my torque converter, which i had repaired, 1 year later, other trans issues showed themselves. In my research i learned about the trans problems. I gave the Trooper away. I would own a 2nd gen only if i could find one w a manual transmission, but 1st gens were bulletproof, capable, trail rigs if you took care of them.

@@HighMileageReviews There's a few screws and you can take the plate off the dssh - it's very simple the connector cable just falls off of the selector. Once it gets a little bit old and there's any resistance at all because of the angle of the stiff cable wire It just falls off you just have to put it back on. It never turned it that far again otherwise it will fall off. I don't normally use my defroster in the winner cause that's when it falls off at least that's my recollection. If I remember correct you may have to take off the lower portion portion of the - but it's maybe 10 screws in total. On the oil consumption of the 3,5 you can try deglasing the sleeves by running it on cheap straight grade SAE 30 oil. The oil doesn't lubricate too well, and that helps the rings reseat in the bore. I'd say do a 3000mile stint then replace with 15w40. On the throwing of the rods that happens when you continually redline the motor, almost like the Toyota 4Y motor. You can polish the rods when you do an engine overhaul, or upgrade to stronger rods. Get rid of the 4l30e pile of crap and replace it with a Aw340f they are freely available and last much better than that GM 💩. Have a trans shop do the conversion as the ECU isn't compatible.
@karlpatch41463 жыл бұрын
Andre Muller, thank you for that awesome info. Knew there had to be a different trans to swap it with that isn't 💩
@punkrocktv82292 жыл бұрын
Does the straight 30 work, in you experience? I have ben running diesal grade oil 15w 40 snd that was the only thing that slightly slowed the burning
@mullerandre952 жыл бұрын
@@punkrocktv8229 yes, but you have to be careful not to run it too long as it doesn't have the best lubricating properties. I won't run it more than 3000 km or 2000 miles.

New tires, clean body/interior, and they're throwing in all the parts needed to fix it. 200k miles and the asking is $1000. Should I do it, or is the transmission too risky?
@HighMileageReviews4 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad price. If you got haggled down just a tad lower, it could be a great deal. Some people say the transmissions last a long time, and some say they're crap. So just take that with a grain of salt. It's all about maintenance
