Kind of feels like the US market got played by some Japanese dealers, been hearing the product that was released was back stock and hoarding from larger operations in Japan and the actual reprint is yet to come, if this turns out to be true I really underestimated how greedy Japanese dealers are.

highly doubt it since its not just hobby shops but also pokemon centers and department stores in japan who are selling the boxes right now. and honestly if this was all back stock then they would have offloaded it earlier back when prices were higher.

Although I don’t love all the uncertainty I don’t think it’s fair branding dealers as automatically greedy. They buy and sell in the way so many people in hobby do everywhere in the world. If that’s automatically greedy then everyone who ever sells anything at a profit is greedy. Issue is we celebrate when we personally make a profit and criticise when others do the same. How many of us have ever imported and then sold on at cost price?!

@@markfras100 I do agree that it’s not immoral/bad to make profit margins but if it is true that they lied to the US market that what they got was the reprint and in fact just hoarded and back stock then it’s a pretty greedy and shitty thing to do. Like I said we will see what is true and false in a months time depending on how the market prices J 151.

The main webshop here in my country acts in a poor way too :) bought a booster box of lost origin paying 165 dollars. They cancelled the order the next day and refunded it, claiming they were sold out. 2 days later, had it back in storage, now selling a lot more expensive.

this was honestly a major w for stores like sakura and a major l for stores like snkr dunk. for alot of people like myself this is our first time buying japanese product so if these stores want to make alot of return customers right now they really should be trying hard not to turn us away. i now know that if i ever buy japanese product again sakura will have my back and snkrdunk wont so if i ever do buy japanese product again i will buy it from sakura.

I knew this wasn’t reprints but I bought one box late Saturday night just to see what happens on TikTok with a coupon for $79 shipped and they printed labels immediately. These shops all followed the pricing with stock they already had anyways. Sunday morning was when everyone made there 151 listings “sold out”. Nothing yet just label created and they reposted last night at $115 with all the other shops doing the same. We’ll see what happens.

@@OttawaInHD Japanese 151 has been scheduled to be reprinted and available in May. As soon as it was announced the prices went from $200 a box crashing to $100. Once the actual reprints come the prices should come back to reality. Unless you pre sold 100k in boxes you cannot get them disappear for days like some shops.

@@OttawaInHD lots of sets get reprinted all depends on set and demand. Each printing press can produce 26.6 million cards in a day so break that down into packs of 10 its crazy how much can be produced in a short period of time. I imagine each sets print run is a month or so with 5-6 main and sub sets released per year. The bulk of the work and time is packaging as boxes are still filled and boxed by hand. Like any manufacturing company they are months ahead I wouldn't doubt if they have 2 or 3 sets printed in warehouses before a set actually hits shelves. They printed 9.7 billion cards in 2023.

Props to small biz ownera who will swallow up their pride and admit they made checkers moves when assessing the risk with this one. Like some biz owners said, the profit most and lose some , and this time its a loss. Not really their fault when Japanese sellers all of a sudden raise the price (not really all of a sudden, it just means, Japanese sellers got confirmed numbers of the reprint they are getting as a country, thus price reflection / backing out saying they cant honour the previous sale prices becUse they were selling stock they were hoarding from first print ) 😅😅

Looks like old stock clearing out. It's never really announced, but consensus now among distributors seems to May is the actual reprint.

Hate to say it but I’m done with JP 151 at this point unless price goes back to pre- cancellation. Whole thing is just ridiculous when you’re buying a $40 box at $70 and it gets canceled.

the fault lies with the pokemon company and the pokemon company alone for not properly handling this situation and sticking to the early may date they announced. what i think happened is stock shipped early and then stores put it right on the shelves since it did not have anything telling them not to, some stores got it earlier than others and as a result started selling it earlier than others, since the restock did not flood the market all at once this allowed scalpers to buyout all the stock which gave them control over the market, the scalpers immediatly set the price on the boxes resulting in what we are seeing. from what i understand stores in japan started getting and selling the reprint as early as april 18th, and stores were continuing to get and sell stock as late as april 23rd. meaning that instead of a large amount of stock hitting the market all at once in one day it was slowly released over the course of five days. the only way to combat scalpers is to flood markets with so much stock that they cant buy it all. by releasing it slowly over the course of five days it allowed scalpers to buy way more of the stock then they would have been able to if it was all released at the same time and has allowed them to control the market and set prices.
