Another great explore! Nice to see you getting your father into urban exploration. By the way, the toilet, which all looked to be various brands from the 1970s, were American Standard Cadet, Mansfield Mohican , & Gerber Mt, Vernon. Judging by the price & the logo on the Pepsi Machine, it dates back to the 1980s.

I, Rick, had seen an article online of an abandoned mall and photos of it and that inspired me. I asked bekah if she wanted to do the same thing, she agreed and we’ve been exploring even since the summer of 2016. We absolutely love it. It never gets old or stale. Always a new adventure with every abandoned site.

I've been by Unadilla many times going to Valdosta from Cartersville to visit my parents. I would loved to have you as you came by if it had been possible. It's cool you introduced your father to urban exploring. It was great to meet him although it was a virtual meeting! It's really surprising the place hasn't been totally destroyed by vandals by now. I looked it up and it went out of business sometime between September 2009 and December 2010. It was equally surprising to see the rooms with the beds made and appearing clean ready to be rented. The one that was chained meant someone was in there. They probably heard you coming and hid in the bathroom. I really enjoyed this one! I'm also glad you two had a chance to get away for a visit. Thanks for sharing, Dirk

If I was homeless I would go into an abandon motel like this clean up and turn one of the rooms in to my. room . They left everything in the motel there is bound to be a broom, dust pan , trash bags somewhere . I would gather all the sheet , pillows , blankets all the dishes and set myself up a spot .

You need to bring dad along more often, he can tell you what some of the things are you find. Seems like a nice guy anyhow, more my generation. It's nice to see homeless making use of it. Not everyone that is homeless is a drug addict, I was homeless for a while when I was young and would have used this until I got back on my feet (which didn't take me long but...). It's really too bad these aren't converted into some sort of temporary homeless shelter. God knows we waste money on more pointless things, helping fellow citizens that are down and out seems like a good investment. It can be hard to get work without an address and a phone, a problem a lot of people don't know about until you have been there. Could also buy a few Bibles and leave them behind where you know people are staying.

Some exits on I-75 in south GA have thrived and have taken the business from the smaller ones like Unadilla. Unadilla doesn’t have any decent restaurants, people will just drive on up to Perry or down to Tifton and grab a Hampton room and eat at Chili’s.

Nice explore. Glad that your dad, Bob, joined you on this. Thanks SO MUCH for sparing us the toilet shots! What was the handle thing (1:49) in the first room? You showed is several times but never panned down to show what it was.
@AmericanExplorer5 жыл бұрын
That was a quad cane. It has a plate at the bottom with four feet on it. Here's a pic of one with the only difference being the handle: bit.ly/2RrkVzt. It looks like an older one. I don't think they make the handles like that anymore. My grandmother had one in the early 1980's.

I imagine that some well-meaning people would think this location should be turned into a residence for the homeless but there are the issues of conversion, maintenance, financial support, transportation to services or jobs. This location would very possibly have become a ghetto with crime/drug problems.---Probably nothing of great cash value but a lot of material and items at the motel look like they could be re-purposed elsewhere whether in the home of a bargain hunter or in a shelter or group home or could be used temporarily by someone who has lost their home in a fire or flood and needs something on a temporary basis. When a place such as this motel goes out of business it would be great if there was a system or protocol in place that allowed for the removal of useful items and fittings that could be sold or donated.
@NeilRoy5 жыл бұрын
I still like the idea of homeless using it. Not everyone that is homeless is a drug addict. I was homeless when I was quite young for a while and would have absolutely used something like this until I got back on my feet.
