Sounds great, but the constant monthly subscription talk is making me worried. I'm okay with paying for something that has value, but being forced to pay a monthly fee no matter how much you use it is not freedom.

What about tokennomics of farcaster? Are users rewarded for the data they bring to the chain? Or for their posts, etc

You are rewarded if you are an influencer. It’s kinda cringe. Steemit was literally better

Great ep. I prefer Lens, I think they fix a few things Farcaster misses but regardless, everything said here pretty much applies to both protocols. Well done 👏

Can you give an example or two of what forecast or misses and lens fixes?

@@sawdustcrypto3987 My personal favorite is Post Collects: Every post has the ability to be "collected" which turns it into an ERC-721 NFT. I post photos every day on Lens and people turn them into NFTs. Some of them get sold, some get shared to Instagram. I value the interoperability of NFTs. The design of the whole Lens system is much more efficient and simpler than Farcaster's. Farcaster is a network, which brings with it all the complexities of being decentralized and recreating much of what has already been done on Ethereum. Farcaster is transmitting and relaying data from node to node while Lens outsources security and execution to Polygon and uses just one shared database on the blockchain. This allows anyone to use that data however they want. Users bring apps to their data. The positive-sum development is so much faster than what's possible on Farcaster, and a great example is Orb, the beginning of a super app that combines TikTok/IG/KZbin/Spotify/Twitter/Facebook into one slick interface. And again, every single post can become an NFT, and that allows for token gating and paying people to repost. I can understand an argument for Farcaster being that it's totally decentralized and doesn't rely on Polygon. That's totally fine and I'm glad it exists. I find Lens more elegant and way more useful.

An hour and a half talking about Desoc with no discussion of the massive development happening on Lens is sad to see. I trust Stanis decentralized ethos more than the cash grabby convo that’s going on here in creating a web protocol that will be used for decades to come

So the real use case is not the elimination of deplatforming. It’s to fulfill the true promise of web2 developer platforms that never flourished because of centralized, anticompetitive greed

Makes sense for developers, and users should care but doubt the average person understands the difference between centralized and decentralized data.

they don't need to. It has better ux. once a protocol is big enough has enough user data that is decentralized, then users can login across multiple platforms via the same online profile. Imagine having the same profile across youtube, linkedin, facebook, etc without having to log in separately across all those platforms. and also better on the other end if a business wants to create their own platform, they can build on the same protocol, they now have the same access to all the same social data that something like twitter did. so it's easier for new businesses to compete because users can still have the same 'friends', 'likes', 'profile', etc even on a new platform.
