Procedurally complex plus it requires arguably one of LPL’s most sophisticated tools to pick, it’s refreshing to see a manufacturer make a genuine effort at actually deterring theft. Clearly the folks at MasterLock had nothing at all to do with this lock.

The only downside to these keys I've experienced is that as the plastic ages & the key is turned every day, it weakens. Eventually, the wings that come off the metal key shaft inside the part you hold will snap their retention & cam the shell open and break it. However, it took almost 15 years of daily use for that to happen. I find this acceptable. Note: This was for the key with the remote integrated into it. The non-remote key bodies are way stronger.

@@oambrosia Imaging you run a goverment agency, sell your cars regularly to for e.g. taxi services. The cars are all keyed alike without electronic interlock, because it is a feature, not a bug, that an officer can move any car with any key. Now also lock the shotgun with the ignition lock circuit. What could go wrong? It not like walmart is selling 1284X Ford Fleet Keys. Now on a more serious note: Just change the locks. How is that any worse then when loosing a key chain that would have contained access key to all of the above? In your case: You would remove the OEM lock of the car and use your mastered system for the car. Before the sell, you remove your lock and replace it with the OEM.

@@GiuseppeGaetanoSabatelli Right. I would have liked to see him pick that lock without that tool. I'm guessing that it is even beyond his ability to do it. That has to be the most complicated picking tool ever made. And using it doesn't appear to be that easy. Who ever designed that lock is a genius. I would call it pick proof with no hesitation. Because the amount of people that have that tool and could actually use it to get the door open, you could count on one hand. Also, the way he is holding the tool would be impossible with the lock in a car door. Making it even more difficult to open.

Most of us watching his videos wouldn't even know how to use the tools properly or know what to look for to bypass locks without any skills. @monomono9627 mostly I would say it's ignorance and the inability to admit to said ignorance that leads to these comments. Honestly, if the guy that's literally a professional speedrunner of lockpicking says that while it's possible it's significantly harder, I'm gonna believe him. That basically makes him an athlete, and all athletes got that merch hustle. If you disagree with the athlete perspective, I would point out that many companies, such as redbull, sponsor professional gamers as athletes and it's widely accepted.

Probably because it’s a luxury car company that actually cares about their products unlike Master Lock which can get away with anything just because it’s a name brand and only cares about the money. Honestly this lock is more so just a flex from Lexus to say that everything on the car is premium. Being able to say “Our car door lock that won’t even get used is better than the deadbolt on your front door and the padlock on your shed combined” is hilarious to me and kind of shows the engineering behind the vehicle.

@@brehella770that's just how good Toyota was back in the day. Hell, it was like that with regular consumer vehicles up until 2008. And then... Well, yeah... The only decent ones left after that were the Tundra, Taco, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, and the Lexus counterparts, alongside with the LC500, RC-F, GS-F, and IS-F. Those were built like tanks and still are. It's a shame, considering I could easily compare my 05 RX to a current RX and easily point out built quality differences and wouldn't be surprised if the locks were weaker on the new one

The main question with car doors is how hard is it to use a slim jim down the window track or coat hanger between the door and body. I think very few will have the specialized tools to work the lock. The average thief will break the window or use a dent puller to rip the lock out. The best thing manufacturers did was create good electronic immobilizers (except Kia who still haven't learned) to help prevent car theft.

Better than having you’re car broken into and or stolen. I’ve seen this this problem on several car locks now, but no normal person uses the door lock anyways, they just unlock it remotely. It would be better if it didn’t break if picked incorrectly, but I can’t blame the company for making a lock that isn’t intended to be opened by improvised tools lol.

A: Money. B: Because a rock will open your car door. C: Anyone with wedges and a rod can also open your car door non-destructively. It's kinda like putting an Abloy on a plastic mower shed on the side of your house.

Cost, and convenience. It's expensive and pointless to lock up a shed with a premium lock. Unless you've got VERY expensive tools. But most everyone can get by with a crappy Master Lock, because most people aren't securing really expensive tools. Likewise, any other use, you choose the lock that suits the value you're protecting. Crap? Use a Master Lock. High-end bike? Assa Abloy.

This makes me think, is there anything stopping you (apart from extensive modifications) from installing a car lock into your front door? We seem to have better locks protecting a $20k car than a $200k home

You *really* need to get into that car undetected to go through the process of picking the lock! The uses for this would be upscale lock-out recovery and three letter agencies. I'm sure the standard trick of bending the door a little and inserting a rod would be far faster and more universal than this tool.
