LOL never heard such a quiet crowd from a #1 vs #3 match. Love the announcer’s futile enthusiasm when Nolf lets him up “escape Ryan Deakin!” Nolf is just on another level.

yes, he actively stalls instead of just getting taken down over and over. Not that nolf and nickal (and retherford) didn't cause a lot of that. Retherford usually punished anyone who bellied out, though.

This is called aggressive passiveness, what Deakin did in the third period. He basically cheated on top, even intentionally stalling and giving up points because he got tired of being treated like a JV wrestler. I know Nolf is really good, but Northwestern had no chance of winning the dual. All he was doing is avoiding the shame of being taken down 15+ times.

I’m not trying to say it in a disrespectful way, but what would you have done? Was it cheap, yes. But I think it’s better to do that and not get tech falled than to go on the feet again and as you said get taken down 15+ times

Almost all of Nolfs attacks were setup by Nolf posting off Deakins left arm collar tie. Deakin is a left leg lead. This is why coaches tell you not to collar tie with the same arm as your lead leg. Deakin keeps doing it over and over again and keeps getting scored on almost every time he does it.

Listen to the announcers and watching the officiating was brutal. The announcers were uneducated and the refs missed calls in every match. NW has this beautiful facility to compete in and this is the what the NCAA provides for refs. I feel for the athletes.
@luisalberto1456
@luisalberto1456 3 жыл бұрын
NW as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. They typically have 1-3 top guys a year but for those guys the same amount of talent falls through the cracks or doesn’t hold up. E.G. Sebastian and Brill :/ Trists didn’t repeat and left the program. Rivera to Rutgers.

I was there watching it, Deakin is just a a huge strong talented wrestler but Nolf has too much momentum as 2x national champ for anyone to even imagine beating him. Penn State creates such a powerful WIN WIN momentum that it becomes almost impossible for anyone to even have a chance at winning against the Penn State wrestlers. How many Penn State guys will make the NCAA finals ? Every weight class ?

I see Berger getting in on Nolf's legs but having no answer to Nolf's funk and spinning.(i.e., Nolf will turn Berger's shots into defensive points unlike this 100% offensive match.)

sweeter_science83 Franciotti specially the 3rd period where deakin legit had no answer to nolf’s movement except to drop to a leg (which is illegal) and just wait for the ref to call it up and restart. Also deakin gave up 3 penalty points to avoid getting teched or pinned by nolfs superior top and neutral game.
