Going through the Mascot and finding the connector into the Nickel Plate mine where we find the start of a 1500 ft decline that was built in 1907 to bring ore from the lower levels of the Nickel Plate to the surface.

Holy Mackerel Frank, You chose to take us here, Holy Wow. You're right, this is extensive,, huge. Massive material taken out of this stopes. This mine has more curves than a woman. Seen one stope you've seen them all, not, here we go again, unique, these are massive. Yes, Frank, we all have to make choices, which bridge to cross or not. Thanks Frank, for the adventure.

Exploring Abandoned Mines yes mate thousands of them. My home has a under ground mine under it . I live not far from Ipswich Queensland and The whole area has under ground mines. When I lived in Rosewood 30 km west of Ipswich I found a old mineshaft air vent that I certainly wouldn’t go down but people have been in them. When I was volunteering with state emergency service we found a body thrown down a disused under ground mine at swan bank near Ripley Qld . My uncle used to work in gold mines in musslebrook New South Wales and took the family in for a tour , it’s still a working mine. Western Australia has the biggest open pit in Southern Hemisphere. They get mainly gold and diamonds from it. You should come here some day no one has ever investigated these mines like you do. Thanks.

Wow that was amazing! So much to see in there, 2 declines, tunnels going in every direction and the chance to explore different levels It is always interesting to see what gets left behind. To say that decline was constructed well over 100 years since it looked pretty decent. Wise decision not to go across the false floor on the 1100; it looked way too dangerous. I thought the 1000 didn’t look in too good a condition to cross either but you made it. When you came back to that false floor in the 1100 we had a better view how far it went down and it was a long way - so glad when you didn’t chance it. It was good that you had let someone know where you were for once by the way. Thank you Frank, that was a brilliant explore - look forward to next week’s episode. Take care now.

The Mascot Mine of Hedley was a gold mine in Hedley, British Columbia, Canada. Gold was first discovered in the Nickel Plate Mountain area in 1897 and several small mines were developed over the years. The Hedley Mascot Mine operated between 1936 and 1949 and was one of the most unusual mining operations in the world, being built entirely on the side of a mountain, 5,000 feet above the town of Hedley or seven thousand feet above sea level. In the 1990s, the British Columbia government was going to burn the site down because it posed a safety risk, but the Minister of Tourism at the time intervened and, in 1995, steps were taken to preserve the site as a Provincial Heritage resource. The buildings were stabilized and rehabilitated over an eight-year period, and, in 2004, the site was open for tours as the gold mine called mascot mine.

It's too bad all that history is being destroyed by water. With so little visitors to take artifacts, and I dont mean you shouldn't take them to preserve history, please do, otherwise they will be ruined. I mean to say, if it was dry there, with little visitors, to see those old mines would truly be epic. Here in California, the mines are dry and well preserved, but everything is vandalized, or stolen artifacts, they take stuff apart, it's sad. It's fun to explore, but not like 20 or 30 years ago when all the mines were open and not blasted shut, full of everything the miners left behind. The regular explorers like my self, do NOT share the locations on purpose. When trusted, we share with each other.
