Bolt Action in 15mm is a fantastic way to have several different BA armies for pennies. It’s especially great for getting a group of friends playing that might not have the resources for their own army. Effectively you could run a pretty good standard point game of Bolt Action with the contents of the Flames of War: Open Fire starter set for around $60 USD. Bolt Action in 15mm is an excellent way to go for gamers on a budget!

I hoped it would be the BF plastics, then I saw the date. To be fair I have BF 15mm figures from two ranges made from 3 different materials, the hard plastic ones have the best detail imo.

I used to play FOW and I kept some stuff to switch over to BA. The BF platoon packs are great for that, but I have trouble getting them or getting them at reasonable prices here in France, so I'm mixing PSC, Skytrex, BF (metal and plastic ) and counting on the fact that not all humans are the same shape and size 😊

I don't like the "Hero" type troops of any kind, in 15mm it looks like a 15mm short legged body with 1/72 scale head and hands, I just couldn't get myself to use any of my paints on them, much less spend any money on them. For me, I prefer the infantry miniatures to reflect a close approximation of scale to the vehicles they are on the wargame table with. I don't know where this fad of hero scale came from, but to each their own I suppose.

I have done 15mm for over 30 years and nobody ever does tanks to go with anything but there own. I've even seen vehicle sizes change over time as molds were redone.

The differences in size at that scale are pretty noticeable, too. What might only be a couple millimeters between length on a Sherman at 1/48 is clearly visible down at 15mm! Plastic Soldier Company's vehicles are pretty good overall, so I'm content to stick to theirs for vehicles while the infantry I'm thinking I'll stick to slightly chunkier proportions.

Separate arms allow for better poses. Those poses cannot be easily molded and have to be two parts.

Good review! Thanks for the information.

I usually prefer Battlefront vehicles because of the detail and variations between vehicles of the same type. When it comes to troops however, I freely mix the same troop types from different companies in amongst each other. The slight changes in both sizes and poses make for more "realistic" looking formations, especially up close. So far, I keep plastics with plastics and metals with metals with the troops though. I had have a few units of Russians in great coats and summer issue conglomerated from Battlefront, Peter Pig and Command Decision metals that everyone seems to love. Haven't tried the plastic lines to the same extent yet but I fully intend to due to cost savings.

It's been really interesting getting into the different manufacturers at this scale, even being able to find Napoleonics, War of the Roses and such at 15mm and even smaller has been really eye opening. Likewise, I'm finding Battlefront's to be the best choice as far as plastic infantry, where I do like Plastic Soldier Company's vehicles for the fact they'll usually come with a few weapon variants on vehicles you're going to end up with a lot of - multiple turret options in a Sherman kit, for example, is always a win with me!

Skytrex offers quiet neat 15mm miniatures!

I've just taken a look at some of their offerings and most of those sculpts look fantastic! Thanks for the heads up. :)

I have a mix of Skytrex, PSC, old Quality Castings and older BF. Mixing on the base works because after all not everybody is the same height. The only problem I have ever had with PSC infantry is I bought the box you reviewed and the heavy weapons to do armored infantry. Everything went together great except for the M1917 water cooled MG's that were used for heavy MG's. Every one of the tripods broke cutting off the sprue and were too small to repair. I went for Peter Pig because they fit and two packs of those gave enough.

Nice figs, keep up the good work..do you think you can do one about the ww1?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio7 жыл бұрын
I'm actually not too familiar with companies that produce WW1-specific figures. If I get my hands on some I'll be sure to do a few comparisons to show off any important differences or details.
