I know that some people are annoyed by the regular pattern of the Zimmerit of the other Panther kit (not this one, it has no Zimmerit) by BF. But if you look at 3:31 Harry has choosen a pic of a Panther with that kind of regular pattern of the Zimmerit. So: That's the way it was.
@FogofWarАй бұрын
Yep. Zimmerit followed a bunch of patterns - including that simple regular one.

Took some time but if we get the usual Fog of War - quality it is worth every minute of waiting. 😉 Just one annotation and a suggestion: -) The Panther G has a better front armour in FoW. It raised from 9 to 10. -) I know you are interested in history. Therefore I want to recommend a book to you: Toeppel, R.; Kursk 1943 - The greatest battle of the Second World War. Most excellent by a german historian and luckily available in english. He also talks about the problems with the early Panthers.

Trekan - thanks for the book recommendation. I'll check it out. I did see the Panther G's front armour was 10. My British are going to struggle with that.

Me, only just getting around to making the resin & plastic Panther G's, I wonder how long iv'e had them!
@FogofWar2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I had to excavate pretty deep into my stash of kits to find these old plastic ones, so yours must be ancient!

Thanks for another great video, got a feeling my US tanks will be facing some of these in a couple of weeks at next FOW tourney:)

Yes. The whole Bulge German release is just very bad news for my British in particular, and Allied armies in general!

The Hull MG with the zimmerit, and the D/A exhausts, are actually for the Panther A plastic kit! Which came out, like, a decade after the track sprue! That's long-term planning...
@FogofWar2 жыл бұрын
I think it's the other way around. The exhausts and other parts were for the older resin kits, and they added the hull and other parts in plastic for the Panther G kit. The recent Panther A has its own exhausts and so on, or am I mis-remembering?

That track detail is insane. The divots on the shurtzen is pretty inexcusable though.
@FogofWar2 жыл бұрын
In their defence, it was a *very* early plastic kit for BF. That sort of thing is a rookie mistake for injection plastic mouldings. They have gotten better, but those skirts are a pain to fix.

Looks interesting! I'm curious to know how the Panzer Brigade reluctant trained Panthers will do. Easy to hit, hard to remount... but FA 10 and AT 14 and super cheap.

They are an interesting set of lists. Adam from Dice of War was very keen to use these.

It is curious how the turretless version of a lot of german tanks mounted the gun of the next or heavier model.
@Mr_Bunk2 жыл бұрын
Interestingly, the Stug is a bit of an outlier in that regard. It only finished development after the Panzer IV was already being mass-produced, so it technically borrowed the gun from its turreted predecessor. Then there’s the Stug III F and the Panzer IV G, which both got the high-velocity 75mm more or less at the same time. It wouldn’t be German armour development if it wasn’t needlessly contrived…
@trekanbelluvitsh2 жыл бұрын
There is a technical reason for that. It is much easier (and much cheaper) to mount a bigger gun in a casemate than in a turret. The casemate can handle the recoil better. You can see that if you look at italian or hungarian WW2 armoured vehicles. The hungarian Zrinyi assault guns mounted a bigger gun than the Turan medium tanks and the italian Semovente assault guns had a bigger gun than the italian medium tanks.

I went with PSC for the Panther. The skirts on this model are far too hideous.
@FogofWar2 жыл бұрын
The PSC Panthers are nice, but I don't mind this kit. The skirts are dreadful - but it was one of BF's first plastic kits. I just used to earlier skirts, or none at all. Despite the skirts, it builds up OK in the end.
