I think it is about how everybody was making their own armors including very colorful ornaments as well. Especially Sipahis received no salary from Ottoman rather they were local forces who joined army during wars instead of paying taxes. And they were supposed to arm themselves entirely, you could notice an older, well experienced Sipahi from a mile distance as they were heavy armored like this while rookies were light armored horse archers etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't sipahis more defined by their status as, should I say, "non-hereditary knights," and not necessarily by their equipment? Couldn't a sipahi be skilled as both an archer and a heavy cavalryman? Anyway, that wasn't supposed to be an attack on your authenticity. Nice armor, nice video. Ottoman weapons and armor are indeed overlooked topics in the historical scene.
@isamartell10 ай бұрын
Yeah. I use the term because the is the idea I had when doing this. But I do show and practice the archer aspect too.

@@isamartellno problem there as sometimes its the best way to embed something to the audience by not being too technical in the details. the majority don't like that and can't wrap their heads around it. There are so many instances where their name implies their status and not their unit.
@hectortroy86715 ай бұрын
Very roughly speaking they were divided into 3 types during their heyday. Rumelian (Balkan) Sipahi who would be moderately armored and fight with lances. Anatolian Sipahi who would be lighter armored and fight with a bow and a lance. And then Kapikulu (Imperial Servant) Sipahi who would have the most amount of armor and be more similar to the Rumelian Sipahi. I imagine the armor in the video would probably only be worn by the Kapikulu Sipahi.
@mammi76995 ай бұрын
Sipahi is not a knigh, or similar to it. Sipahi is a man who was lended some farmland by the sultan so he would farm it for 5 years, then buy himself armor and weapons for the war. If he agrees, then he can lend it for another 5 years and so on. Typically, they would agree and the farmland would be lended continuously to his family.
@bretalvarez30975 ай бұрын
@@mammi7699 I think your thinking of Timariots who were given land in return for military assistance. Sipahis didn't manage land unless they were also Timariots. Many Sipahis served in the bodyguard retinue of Timariots and Sipahis of the Sublime Porte were strictly military and had no land managing duties.

I love the breakdown/buildup of layers in this video. It shows precisely that often the cuirass/chest-piece was layered ontop of already existing chainmail. I love this armor design. Turkish/byzantian/syrian/north african armors are the best. (ps: I like the redcoat armor version more due to its variety in color and the display of some textiles)

They constituted the main strength of the army of the Ottoman Empire. 1- Tımarlı sipahis would join the war during wartime and engage in agriculture when there was no war. 2- All of the Timarli sipahis were horse and bow-bearing soldiers, their characteristics were to ride horses quickly and shoot arrows from the horse. Another reason why the Turks were successful in European wars was that they had the ability to move quickly with light armor against heavily armored knights.

@isamartell10 ай бұрын
I only do Buhurt duels in it. That’s what the pictures are from at the end of the video. I wouldn’t do buhurt melee with it just because you wouldn’t want to wear the mail and then there would be a ton of gaps. If you want burhurt eastern armor, your best to go with something that has small over lapping plates. Though I do use this for Harnischfechten and it is fine. But that is always done with the mail and you don’t take repeated bashing hits.
@ainmaloy172710 ай бұрын
If you really want a easternish buhurt gear - mongol or russian armor will be the best you can get to achieve protection and some historical truth. It's definitely ain't new and original way but it's the only way you can get both goals. Hatanga degel - something about a equivalent to western brigandine. Or russian scale armor that were used in the end of XIV and in XV if my memory serves me right

@@isamartell yes, you took the music bc you liked it :D You can choose any kind of music you want but when it comes to a video about Turkish stuffs and you use some kind of orientalist electro music it means you are probably think this music matches with video or you just liked the music :D This part is so fun because there is more than one music you like (absolutely) and the reason why you put this music to the video is must be something else . Maybe you were thinking it matches with the video etc. You say "I liked the music" which means "I don't accept my ignorance". This must be an evidence of your ignorance. I would educate you but it seems hard. And I see some middle easterns that wants to make Turkish culture seems familiar to their culture or part of their culture. It sucks.

@@ahmetyusufsrgl You seem insecure about yourself if music on a KZbin video got you writing responses like this. Nothing wrong with the music. It’s my video. I like it. I’m not claiming it’s Turkish. You are mad a something, when there is nothing to be made about. The video highlights Turkish armor. You should celebrate that.

@@isamartell It was so expected you to take it personal. Celebrating? I was ashamed that you made a vide about Turkish armour. How did you get that I am insecure because I try to save my culture? You make me thinking you have no enough skill to understand what you read.

He wants to say that persians had same design, or russians, or anybody in the east, but persia and muskovy and india were ruled by turkic elites for centuries, so they adopted same armor design.
