THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!! This is EXACTLY what's wrong with my 2019 Equinox. I let someone talk me into not changing the oil on time because they didn't want me to do it myself. Someone reset my oil life sensor when I had my tires serviced. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Oil issues will mess this engine up BADLY.

Hello, first off, thanks for the informative video. I know this video is a couple years old at this point but I am hoping you may still see the comments and respond. At 16:29, could you possibly explain how you disconnect that? It looks like you've just got a small flat head but I can't tell exactly what you've done to release the hose. It doesn't look overly complicated but I was hoping for some clarification before I got to work on this job. Valve cover gasket is done for on my gen 2 Cruze, and the cheapest quote I can get around me is 750 dollars and that guy can't work on it for another month... or I can spend 900 to get it done now. I figured I would look to find a video (like yours) but jeez it took forever to actually find one. Tons of videos on the gen 1 Cruze but hardly anything on the newer models so I appreciate it.
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 11 ай бұрын
Yep, I used a small flat head screw driver to release that hose (pretty straight forward). I should have gotten a more closer shot on that part as I try to make my videos of the highest quality. I apologize for that. Also, you are correct, this is probably the most detail video regarding the motor of the Gen 2 Cruze on KZbin as well as the other videos I have on this particular vehicle.

I watched this video and you helped me fix a huge headache I have had for a couple months now!!! It was my 2005 scion tc, in which I found out all along it was the camshaft position sensor, in which it is mounted on top left of the valve cover, right in my face all this time, and I don't know why I refused to check it, but I done everything else from cleaning maff sensor, to cleaning throttle body, to changing fuel pump and everything else I could think of!!! As soon as I pulled the plug off the sensor I found the issue.... One of the wires was halfway out the plug connector with harness wrap from the factory hiding the fact!!! Pushed the wire back into the connector after using a very small flathead screwdriver by bending the little catch thing on the wire connector that holds the wire inside the plug!!! I plugged it back up and immediately started the engine and now it's fixed!!! Apparently the factory did this by mistake when it was put together, and all this time from the engine compartment going from cold to hot would make the wiring harness more flexible over time and the wire was intermittently making and loosing connection!!!!

Did you remove all of the bolts in the center of the valve cover? Please check that all of the bolts are removed. Once all of them are removed, you have to pry it up. It will not come up easy. This is a great video. The most complete and informative I've found on this subject. You definitely earned a subscriber. Do you have any idea what would cause oil to be on the spark end of a sparkplug and cause it to go bad occasionally? My #2 sparkplug goes bad after some time and I find gunk/oil on it. Last time it lasted a year between going bad and most recently it went bad after replacing 3 months later. The car goes through oil fast but I don't find much on the garage floor. I read that it could be the valve cover gaskets so that's why I found your video. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Definitely sounds like you have a valve cover gasket issue. If it were an older car I would probably tell you to look into getting the spark plug tube seal replaced. The valve cover replacement should fix your issue. Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. I really appreciate it.

I have 1.4T that smokes like no tommorrow on idle. Cleaned injectors inside and out, new plugs, coils. Cleaned MAF, filters, oils etc usual stuff. Also replaced the two external PCV valves. Runs great (especially after clening the gunky injectors) and has plenty of power and doesn't eat oil. City MPG on the bit poorer side, can't figure out whats causing it to smoke so much. I read there's a PCV orifice built in the valve cover that goes to the intake manifold - it could be blocked but even then the excess pressure should be venting thru the other PCV valves...

@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 2 жыл бұрын
@@omiq7761 , that's very low miles for the valve seals to be bad unless the engine was ran hard. The turbo can also cause your condition. You need to check the seals thouroughly or replace them. If you're smelling gas and not oil or a sweet smell that would be caused by a head gasket, I would definitely check into the turbo. I have seen faulty turbos cause that same smoking issue despite working properly.

Hey Terence, thank you so much for the informative video. I had a shattered Vaccum pump which caused Hard brake pedal. Drove home slowly.. Turned off. Tried to start again but had long crank, no start. Opened up valve cover, fished out all the pieces new VP and Seal done. Reluctor had moved so I tapped into position. Closed it all up. Now it starts and brake pedal is back to normal. Seeking some guidance please as I now have Reduced engine Power notification and engine sounds like a Subaru Boxer. Smells of gas too. Should I now be looking at possibly changing the exhaust camshaft or maybe try something before that. Any assistane is appreciated please. I didn't remove the full fuel rail with injectors (just got the top part off) as I hadn't seen ur video before.. Could it be that maybe the O rings or possibly the coil hasn't been aligned properly causing a misfire?

After all that it wouldn't start, had codes p0017 n p0014, change the vvt solenoid on the exhaust side and engine fired up. Still getting the same codes, p0017 is constant, p0014 comes on after a few minutes with the reduced engine power, changed the exhaust side sensor and crankshaft sensor and still the same codes pop up. Engine sounds great and doesn't shake or anything, tried swapping the vvt solenoid and cam sensor from the intake side and still the same codes. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

@@leogonzalez8975 , I apologize for the late response. I had a very busy day. You don't have to pay me for anything. As far as using the disconnect tool, you have to push it as far as you can into the connector. You can use a little penetrant oil on the connector as well before inserting the disconnect tool. Also, make sure you are using the size that I used in the video. Once you've pushed it as far as it can go, wiggle it as you pull backwards, making sure the disconnect tool stays firmly pushed into the connector. I wish I were there to help you.

@@TerenceDIY Me again, I have two questions so I put everything back together with the new valve installed and oil is leaking by the vacuum pump. Is that because I don’t have the bolts tight enough or did I not use enough gasket maker? Second question during the process of installing the valve cover the top of the Pcv that attaches to the hose broke, is there a way to take the valve out? You said something about a tap approved bolt?
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Earl, you can ask as many questions as you like. I'm not surprised that oil is leaking around that vacuum pump. The gasket requires replacement whenever that vacuum pump is removed. I just got lucky with this particular job, but not so lucky in the past. You're going to need to replace that o-ring style gasket on the cover (fairly easy). Also, the tamper proof bolts can be removed easily with some needle nose vice grips. You should be able to remove them with a set of regular vice grips as well. I have removed many of them. Once you remove them, you can replace that line. Just use some locktite when you reinstall the bolts. Is there anyway you can wrap the hose with some electrical tape? That will temporarily fix the problem until you're ready to fix it (I've done this quite a few times as well). It will actually hold of for a while. Let me know.
