A very complete video even including torque specs! Well done, Sir. One quick point, when removing the bottom bolt hold the nut with the open end wrench and use the socket with the impact on the bolt head. That way the bolt, in most cases, will back itself out and you won't need to drive it out with the punch. It will also help free a bolt that's frozen in the arm if you live in the rust belt.

Quick question: The noise i get is a clunk sound when i reverse or let off the break to hit the gas at light. this has to be the rear shocks right? I also hear the clunk when i press down on my trunk while its parked so it leads me to believe it is the shocks? if so your video is going to get me to do this myself! You are awesome! I subscribed to your channel, I like the way you get to the point and are very clear with your tutorials! Cheer's from Texas!
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 2 ай бұрын
There is a possibility that the shock mount can cause that however, after doing quite a few of these, that rear knuckle was the culprit for that clunk. I have arguably the best video on KZbin regarding that rear knuckle clunk and fix. Check it out. Also, if you need any parts. let me know. I can get you a great deal as I have dealt with many vendors throughout the years. Thanks,

When these need replaced would these make the car almost go sideways over a bump at high speeds? Almost a side to side motion or maybe it’s the shocks?
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 2 ай бұрын
Definitely not the shocks. If you feel that side to side motion in the rear, the knuckles can cause this if the bushings are worn out. I have a VERY detailed video on the rear knuckles that's installed on these vehicles. They were a flawed design from the factory. If you have not watched the video, you should check it out. Thanks,

Idk if you can help or know, but is it a MUST to replace the bracket along with the shock? Or can I just replace the shock and use the same bracket?
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY Жыл бұрын
Yes, I can help. The bracket (shock mount) is what causes the problem. You can replace the mount and use the old shock if you want. I would just replace both. Here are some links for either or. www.ebay.com/itm/204136545968?fits=Year%3A2018%7CModel%3AMalibu%7CMake%3AChevrolet&hash=item2f877c7eb0:g:HrUAAOSwLG1jXqAJ&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8BkFL9D2v27TIi3QCYXE7ZEj2p%2BAlrIcxcgFYVgQhTAuOLwarpQsZr3js6HotDpHxwhlEcuNfSNtWnuy%2Fz0%2BjeXoTl8tHAYPB3lzrPAaXVn7RdBTAtPMbvH%2BOA13x1zoT4MtsdziZscAr3Z99K1MSi5dYfi7Stxtoh4C8rbi%2BaHnYePyyz58PdIqv3F6v6kJWD7awwgul8WeWG4A1uct8B4iC6XCet6XeE5YH389wyw2ICSntYcfMnXyKgdSoWwV%2Fstu%2BuVAUjjkVk2oWz03jAQj%2BEgK%2BbfaSIPePCbKO%2FzQypWqjv1jlQ5DA6CoiWa0yQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5C91OuhYQ www.ebay.com/itm/265918017512?fits=Year%3A2018%7CModel%3AMalibu%7CMake%3AChevrolet&hash=item3de9f2efe8:g:Po4AAOSwLwpiER-Y&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8IrDA0My5LGEixnBHbB5Tz56eeYL%2F1i%2F4oZX6EC1qUO2DTVvkAqdx7PY1pvaINN1IM8pTQ2tGYUd02%2BCSl8fLa6ZBFk801v4VhrWkGBVVNBP8GW9v5Y0%2FCMnSHALora3NWR5W%2BKh0gz9lLbFF1ckAVBwUC7%2Fux8F7r4F9fw%2Bn%2F02x9rZOnkH9QBiZ8UKSmxbG8aCY6Ql4VMeUqQF6XMTeRTIOxBUZt5W7jPYjLEWRXd%2FyJGbSWiwGMsEru29ohUGzunVqib7u5pqGla7uXV8MOuZrC128cjSgOO9Wb%2FlQ9CCVNMOukXos4zy088Y2Z%2F0Ew%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6K91OuhYQ

@Terence The DIY'er Well my local mechanic told me to replace shocks because they were starting to leak a little. I don't have any real problems per say but if that's what he suggested I'm going to change them. But I ask because if the shock needs replacement then I can just replace that and use the old bracket. Every video I watch though has it being replaced with a whole new bracket. So idk if they do it because it has to be done or because that's just how they buy the new shock. They sell both just the shock and the shock w/bracket. Obvious the ladder is more expensive too
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY Жыл бұрын
@@GunTuber992 , does the car drive well? How many miles on the car? I've done hundreds of shock jobs. I've seen just about every scenario. In your case, the MAIN problem is that shock mount, not the shock itself. If you opt to replace just the shock, you'll regret it in the long run if not after the replacement. That shock has to be removed from the rubber in that mount. And unless your car is somewhat new, that rubber will be brittle in which will probably cause the mount not to hold the shock firmly hence, causing that irritating noise in the back. You don't have to take my word, I'm just talking from experience. Also, if your car is driving well. I would wait for a shock replacement. It's really not a big issue. Thanks,

Nice video.. Here is off topic.. 89 2002 chevy express... drive shaft broke. Got another. The pinion is tilted upward but only the bulb (dog bone ?).. the arms are in place for correct placement of shock mounts and brakes.. ... before I get brave enough to not do more damage.. are the bolts on the edge of the pinion bulb the bolts to loosen the bulb for realignment? (Trans angle is correct) any help is greatly appreciated.
