I would definitely sleep there surrounded by nature. It’s your cabin, on your land, with lots of dogs to sound the alarm if something is nearby. You are perfectly safe. Your summer kitchen is perfect for the location. Spending time outside is so healing.

Thanks very much for watching and commenting 👍 we really enjoyed the summer kitchen we spent a lot of time there this year, more than in the cabin which just became a sleeping place. I plan to make some upgrades this coming summer. Its taught me how little you need to make a functional shelter and I love that its a living space without walls. At first I felt a bit wary being there alone at nightfall but I'm used to it now and enjoy the night sounds.

It’s looking amazing already Katy! What a lovely place to escape to and soak up the great outdoors. I’m so impressed with all you’ve achieved. I would definitely try to sleep there on my own but I think it would probably take me a few nights to acclimatise enough to sleep properly. And those lovely dogs - it was so good to see them all chilling out together!

Seeing you for the first time, Katy. When did you start, and why? Are you far from a town; and do you want to live there full time?

As a man I wouldn't have a problem sleeping there but your a woman and have doubts you should visit the town only with friend's or those big dogs.

Hi Jeff thanks for watching...it was a bit odd sleeping there the first few nights alone but I've got used to it now (Unless there's a big storm then I tend to freek out 🤣) I think its the caveman instinct that kicks in at nightfall and tells you to go into your cave and not wander around alone in the dark. The guy that delivers building materials to me always says he'd never ever ever stay here...too remote from other people. 😶‍🌫️ But that's exactly why I liked the place. Thanks for your comment see you again soon!

Thanks for watching! The maker is a french company called Millet and the range is called 'siMple'. its aluminium frames designed to have a minimal frame and modern square look. I'm very happy with the result. I chose black matt finish. Lets see how they look once the plasterboard is in place. I have installed them fitted inside the wood frame but you can also install them flush with the internal wall which visually looks really great. Are you working on a project?
@katybuilds

Btw the Total cost including fitting was 6000€. It would have been around 3000€ if I went for PVC. But I really wanted the slim frames and custom openings.

Hi Great video, I had a few comments that might have helped, but they seem to not be sticking. Edit to indicate, not sticking to KZbin, Katy seems to be someone who is very happy to take advise from others who have experience and can help. Sorry for the confusion.

@@katybuilds Sorry, sticking meant posted, but not being added, seeming to be deleted. I watch you, because you are not me. Your ideas are different, like the double sided tape for the vapour barrier rather than me stapling it. Maybe I should have used better phrasing, but wondered whether my issue was youtube or something else, such that I used indirect phrasing but that didn't have the interpretation I initially wanted.

@@katybuilds Part of my comment was about the cladding, Mr Chickadee has a Shou Sugi Ban / Yakasugi diy video, or are you sending it to the company you found. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ-cZ3yCiquChrM DIY is not good if you are in fire risk, not sure weather there but wouldn't do it here, been hot enough to crisp a lot of things! Also will take a few attempts to get preferred finish. Sorry for the edits in this and the following comments. Just remember to have fun and enjoy it, the most important thing is to remember failure is a lesson, and doesn't normally cost a huge amount apart from time.

@@katybuilds For Pine needle removal, you may need to break the sap first, Skillcult indicates oil is usefull, I have had luck with detergent and alcohol (not suggested as a mix and alcohol can be very expensive). I'd go with a castile like Dr Bronners to avoid a Fairy liquid environment damage.
@Youchubeswindon
@Youchubeswindon Жыл бұрын
@@katybuilds After the pine needle sap has been broken, I'd use a pressure washer to remove them, and a brush for the stragglers. Ryobi do the RY120352 cordless one, which I am just about to buy. Bit more expensive than the RY120350 cheaper model, but the upgrade seems worth it. More money / more tools, but if you can justify the cost such as when washing the decking or car, it becomes worth it. I have got Makita batteries, but am getting an adaptor for when mine turns up, pressure washing in the middle of a field from a bucket sounds like a life goal!

Just remember pine needles are an excellent tinder. Try to clear when doing fire risk management.
