16-bit beat-em-up BEAUTY - Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind Gameplay Preview

Go, go, Power Rangers! To most these might just be four words from a popular 90s TV show theme song, but to diehard fans like me, it gets the pulse racing. This was exactly the case during the Summer Game Fest showcase earlier this year, where developer/publisher Digital Eclipse unleashed the reveal trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind. I was in the room when that presentation took place, and the atmosphere after seeing those five spunky teenagers kick putty butt in 16-bit form was electric. Now I’ve had hands on with the game during a short, 30-minute preview session at Gamescom 2024, I’m excited to say that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is the real deal.

almost as though they have to do this due to a thing called NDAs. Second, we also know that they only let you play a demo which only covers like the basis of the stages so journos can see and feel what it is.

Early on in the show they had Billy wear baggy clothes to hide the fact that his actor was actually ripped. Later on he got to wear better fitting clothes and he also fought more aggressively while unmorphed, making it seem like as the show went on Billy got in shape and became a better fighter

Would be neat if they drew inspiration from 'Blue Ranger gone bad' and created a DLC stage where you take on Evil Billy. They definitely need to toss in the White ranger too obviously.

Considering they were staying hush hush about it, maybe at some point the rangers from season 2 become playable as well, and the yellow ranger could be Trini or Aisha (Power Rangers Mega Battle did this).

@@Zoogi.e Power Rangers the Movie on Mega Drive kind of did it too, after two stages Ivan Ooze destroys the command center and the Rangers talk about when they turned into Rangers, so we had flasback stages with Trini, Zack and Jason until they got that sword that was needed to transfer the Power Rangers powers.

@@Mari_Izu you’re right. But in Mega Battle we could literally pick between season 1 and 2 rangers on the select screen. If the season 2 rangers are here, I imagine they’ll wanna give that option after we finish the game (I doubt they’re here tho). I think it’s lame that the Green Ranger is unlocked after you finish the game. I think he should be a mid-game unlock like he is in other games.

Good! Rocky, Adam and Aisha can stay in the 2nd half of Mighty Morphin power Rangers S2 & 3 where they belong. :P That's basically when the show started to lose Steam. Season 3 was when I pretty much tapped out.

After Rita Repulsa was purified by the Z-Wave, her evil personality was exorcised from her body and converted into particles. During Billy Cranston's attempts to resurrect Zordon, he accidentally awakened the evil Rita's particles and it landed onto Alpha 8, creating Robo-Rita. Now in a new body, Robo-Rita began to threaten the Power Rangers once again after 30 years.

I lOVE Power Rangers, and this is no shade to them but i need more! i love the art and the gameplay looks fun but at this point the recent beat-em up games are all looking like the same game with different skins. i do like that Powers Rangers has parts where the gameplay changes up here n there, thats pretty cool

I would've liked to have seen where you started off in your human form, and then collect power coins to morph...kinda like altered beast or metamorphic force. But either way, pretty excited about playing this.

Right up there with TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, and the PS1 3D action stages look awesome. I'm just worried about the actual gameplay/beat em up mechanics. What exactly is it doing differently to separate and differentiate itself from the pack? Plus it looks as if the rangers nearly all play identically. Looking forward to 'Toxic Crusaders' this year as well! GIGJOE rise of Corba however looks painfully cheap.
