Blind tastings are fun and a great way to find out what you really like, without prejudice. When GF and I did something similar, our winner was ... Kirkland Signature Single Barrel (made by Barton 1792). Beat out things like Blantons, Eagle Rare, EC, WT Rare Breed, etc.

You have a favorite in this lineup? I surprisingly have not tried most of these

@@thekychew I am a Heaven Hill fan but Old Forester is a good pour also. I think I prefer Larceny to E.C. but E.W. BIB one of the greats that is over looked. Now that said J.T.S. Brown BIB is very close also.

I live in western Pennsylvania. Besides the Buffalo Trace, & Weller, I am unable to get any of the Benchmarks, Old Grand Dad 114, Green River, Early Times, or Old Bardstown. Have never seen any of those on the shelves. I was able to buy an Old Grand Dad in our neighboring state of Ohio. Selection and prices are pretty bad here.

Dang I hate to hear that! What’s your go to in Pennsylvania?

@@thekychew I guess you could say I’m a beginner. There’s a lot I haven’t tried. I tend to look for budget friendly bourbons. I go through Wild Turkey 101, & Evan Williams BIB a good bit. I also really like Elijah Craig Small Batch, & 1792 Small Batch. I’m really interested in learning more about bourbon, & collecting. I came across one of your videos & thought you seemed like a really good dude, so I subscribed. Look forward to following along on your journey, & I believe it will help me along with mine as well. All the best!

How did you determine which bottle would go up against what. I’d flip a coin out of four bottles and highest winning bottle goes against lowest winning bottle. Then do a loser bracket. Whatever goes up against OGD 114 is not going to do well even a 50abv bottle will be easy to tell which one is higher abv. But looking forward to this challenge.

I first started by brainstorming what bottles should be included between the $20-$35ish price point. From what I read and watched these bottles were included in most people’s lists of “top budget” products. Once I had my 16 bottles I set the 1st round based off of similarities. For example, I have all the wheated bourbons going against eachother first. The bottle in bond products are paired together, etc. The OGD 114 was definitely the biggest outlier. I could’ve gone with the OGD BIB but I felt like the OGD 114 would be superior. I agree it will probably be easy to pick up in a blind but the main focus is going to be on overall taste. Appreciate the comment and thank you for following along 🥃
