Honda should just give up on the infamous 1.5L turbo. They should replace it with their tried and true K20 and K24 engines. There’s a reason why the code name of this engines starts with an “L.”

Just as they mention… this is a design flaw that Honda will never admit to. $4700 later after 102k I had to have the head gasket replaced in my ‘16 civic touring. And I do/did the maintenance like clockwork on it. Another reason I left Honda and won’t be back… but I do enjoy the vids Tyler…. Keep ‘em coming!

Ford had the same problems with the I4 eco boost motors. Finally the design changed in 2020

Crazy how the 2.4L Engine was more reliable and they replaced it with the infamous 1.5T

@@BryanElMatatan sure the 2.4L is dead ass reliable, but you’re lucky to get more than 30mpg. They have to have the hp and torque, and they have to have better fuel economy than the previous generation.

@ thats true, i do have a CRV with a 2.4L and i barely get 20mpg on the city, i believe the 1.5T was an engine made under some beta test like it was sold but it was still being “ Tested “

@@BryanElMatatan Honda doesn’t pump out beta engines. They’re developed over many years. They did have a younger generation of engineers develop the 1.5T.

For my own curiosity if I owned one I would try and fill In the wall gaps with jb weld and see if it holds better 🤣

it is crazy they are still using 1.5T in 2025 models and the HRV gets it too. good job Honda.

I own 2025 Honda HRV and came with 2L k20c2, but I thing they listed on the block k20z2, old school port injection, no turbo and no GDI.

@HiFiInsider No it's CVT, it's OK for normal driving, planning to changing fluid on early stages and I have extended warranty if pooped on me.

@@fibonaccisequence2891 Great 😃 The come back to only port injection (no GDI) is what made me come back to Honda. Now, I am just waiting for a turbo version without GDI. 🤗 But no, you gotta save the planet by producing "fuel efficient" junk engine that will end up at the scrap yard sooner.

I think not running 93 octane definitely doesn’t help

I agree. The mistake was giving the option to run 87 in the accord/civic/CRV. But at the same time, you cant tell people they have to run premium in these vehicles. 93 is $1.20 more than 87. People wouldn’t buy them. I like the 1.5T in my Si a lot. I beat the hell out of it, but I also do a ton of preventative maintenance. Only 105k miles, so I can’t say that anything i’m doing will prevent this.

@@sdalexander8505 I doubt detonation is causing blown head gaskets since the engine detects detonation and lowers ignition timing. But at the same time, if the ECM programmation or the knock sensor is faulty, some prolonged small detonation could cause it.

@@flrpower5628 short instances of detonation due to turbo neglect and poor maintenance intervals can add up quick. I’m not saying I know it all and my car is going to go 300k miles no issues. They seem to go 125k-150k before the head gasket fails. My Si only has 106k. But I run that bitch through its entire rev range every time I drive it. Time will tell. I’m not going to drive my Si scared. It’s worth the couple grand if the head gasket does go.

@@flrpower5628 problem is that people are use to the bulletproof port injected NA engines of the previous 30 years that can actually be neglected maintenance wise and run fine for 250k. These new engines across the board are SENSITIVE to anything out of the ordinary. You fire them up ice-cold oil/turbo/cat, jam it into Drive and go, merge onto the highway deep in the throttle and boost, no oil change in 8000 miles, for your morning commute before it even has a chance to warm up. That’s not going to end well.
