I spent 24 hours in the New Forest with the Asta Gear Yun Chuan 2 trekking pole tent (x-mid 2 copy) during 16 hours of rain. In total 30mm of rain fell that day. Will the Yun Chuan leak? Will my seam sealing hold? This video may answer some questions that are being asked about this tent.

That opening sequence was way too legit for a KZbin camping video. Thought I was watching a BBC documentary.

I'll take that 😅 tbh I'm taking my time now with the cinematography when I'm out and about, before I was always rushing about not really concentrating. I'm doing the seam sealing on the ridge line again just for peace of mind. I think I will be taking it on my next long hike. 👍

Hello Greg, nice vidéo! I've the same tent for 1 person. I figures out that if i have the trekking pole at 135cm, i've got too much wind going inside, so i reduced to 125cm.. do you have the same issue ? Thanks in advance
@greyhikes5236

Hello Lucas, I had my poles at 125 with the inner lowered fully. I'm going to try it a bit higher to allow ventilation to see if the condensation cuts down. Hope this helps. I had no wind at 125👍

Did you seam seamseal the tent? I talked to ASTA GEAR when ich purchased the Yun Chuan 2. They advised me to seamseal the tent for heavy rains. I recently bought the GEAR AID - SEAM GRIP+SIL => SILICONE TENT SEALANT. I think i will seamseal it before the camping and hiking season getting started.

I have seam sealed it twice now. After the rain and and condensation I wasn't sure where the drip was coming from. After the camp that I've just done I think it was definitely leaking and not condensation. I believe that the water was coming from the inserts for the walking poles as the rings on mine are rusty. On this latest camp the tent was full of conditions but I had no drips or water in the tent. I seam sealed inside and outside of the two walking pole points just to be safe. I will have it back out in the rain just to be sure 👍

Outstanding videography!! And helpful video as I am considering buying one of these tents. My only question holding me from getting one is: are hiking poles that only go go 130cm enough or would that cause the outer to touch the inner and therefore condensation to soak inner? Do you have your poles set as 135cm?
@greyhikes5236
@greyhikes5236 7 ай бұрын
Hi Lawrence thanks! In that video I had them at 125 and my latest 135 if I remember rightly. The inner has about 10cm of adjustment at the top. Hope this helps? 👍

@@greyhikes5236 Yeah, my silnylon F10 helium gets saggy when wet. The Xmid Sil poly doesn't seem to do it. My first tent was a Saunders Fellpine which was pu nylon and didn't go saggy. It did, however, succumb to UV degradation about 20 years ago after a lot of use Sil nylon seems to sook up water.

@@greyhikes5236 Not quite sure tbh. I think between 8 to 10 weeks max. I am contemplating incorporating the CWT into it as well which will push it up to almost 1400miles. Seems to good an opportunity not to. If i do that it'll be another 2 weeks i think. 😄
