INTP O : 96% (Highly likely) C : 23% (Unlikely) E : 35% (Possible) A : 21% (Unlikely) N : 12.5% (Unlikely) I really agree with most of the comments that you underestimated our openness, it is literally our main trait. I see what you mean about liking comfort but I can easily go past that if I’m excited about new ideas and adventures whereas there’s no way I’d give up my creative freedom for comfort. Those 2 traits do exist in INTPs but are not equal at all in how important they are for an INTP to function. I think our openness is probably lower than an ENTP but slightly higher than that of an INTJ.

INTP. Actually we love to explore - particularly ideas, approaches - and learning about topics that are of interest. Maybe in the physical world, we tend to like routine and “creature comforts”. For example, I do try one new item at the grocery store when I go, otherwise I get the same things. In my personal clothes, I get the same shirts and pants (brand, brand cut, size) just different colors. (Office clothes, I get different blouses, cause I kind of had to, you know, because it’s kind of expected by other people).

it's funny looking at different character traits and doing different personality classifications. Looking at this, we're not much different, except I'm a lot higher up on the "agreeable" trait. But if I think about similarties between INTP and ENFP, I wouldn't have ... well, so many
@exnihilonihilfit63166 ай бұрын
Agreed. I was surprised by that, too. Nobody is as intellectually open to _hear_ and ponder (not necessarily agree with, if found false/stupid) new ideas as INTPs (well, maybe ENTPs but they're open to their detriment: 😅 not deep thinkers enough, too spontaneous, will just start speaking and improvise and think as they go - which sure helps socially but is not so good for their mind/discovering truth/not speaking b.s. 😀).

In my opinion, the test I took should have taken altruistic action and attitude into account. Just because I don't "feel" other people doesn't mean I haven't done my market research on what pleases them. The Extroversion score would have been difficult to agree with in earlier years, particularly given my first-person pronoun density, but having gotten over my social anxiety, I find all this small-talk and multiple human interaction INTOXICATING! I thought I was an introvert because I would be stuck in my Default Mode Network at daft times and slowly turn into a misanthrope who's constantly one poor choice of words away from a massacre. Soon as I see someone, the smile is back on, baby! The rest stands to reason, but I really must give myself some credit with conscientiousness. In spite of my day being chaotic, I am always on top of things, and my morning routine would make an average ENTJ blush.

ENTP here, and you’re right, I’m protesting. I’m a ‘possible’ at most. I don’t necessarily like people but I’m fascinated by them. I accept that I am expansive, outward-looking, but I enjoy spending time in my head, more. I hate social obligations even though I know I’ll be better off attending them. The getting ready, the drive there, the awkward initial small talks, loatheee them. But often time than not, there’d be a moment where a light switches, and I found myself riding the waves. With just a little effort, it could be fun. Even when the company’s crap, the commentary in my head would make up for it. And coming home to any type of experience rejuvenates me, although 7/10 times, I’d prefer not to go out in the first place. So, ‘possible’.

Regarding ISTPs and Openness: I’m not well versed in the definitions of the Big Five but as far as I see it openness doesn’t necessarily mean that the new ideas have to be abstract or have to come from within. You could be open to external input while not being intuitive or creative yourself at all. For me personally being open means that if I learn something new I’m not immediately dismissing it without further thought but I’ll rather consider whether it makes sense and if it has practical applications. If it doesn’t then I’ll dismiss it otherwise I will integrate it in my understanding of the world. Also I’ll seek out every possible information I can gather about topics that interest me (for example MBTI over the last couple of weeks/months) and I try out new things to make something more efficient (for example with computer programming). So in essence I see myself as generally quite open but with a scrutinizing filter behind that openness. Edit: Just to make it clear, I’m totally fine with the ISTP being put in the Likely category. I would have probably put them there as well.
@Multitudes_3 жыл бұрын
Yes, openness to external ideas counts - in fact, that's more directly relevant to what this Big 5 trait is measuring than your personal creativity. However, it's more about openness to things like intellectual ideas, artistic expression, and different points of view, rather than physical experiences, so it does skew relatively abstract and tends to correlate with MBTI intuition. But of course, even sensors can have well-developed intuition sometimes.

But I think it is very important for ENFPs to "keep the peace", so they're generally very aware of other people and try to keep the harmony. I scored high in openess. ENFP with ISxJ parents, it's a struggle lol. Extremely accurate I took the test again 80% Openess 62% Agreeableness 45% Emotional Stability 60% Extroverted 23% Constienousness It makes sense, I am unsually and extremely open minded to trying new things, going out of my way to talk to different people, befriending all walks and talks of life, love to explore new places, talk to new people etc. I live with ISxJ parents and it's tough and challenging. Dad is ISTJ Mom comes off as ISFJ and they are so darn close minded and are stuck in their own ways and it's so irritating and annoying, like try something new once with your life, you always do the same damn thing.

I was kind of dreading the neuroticism trait ranking because I assumed the INTP would be place in "unlikely" since we're always stereotyped as being so carefree. I'm one of the most neurotic people I know since Ne gives me the ability to see a myriad of catastrophic possibilities and Ti tells me that a positive, starry-eyed, hopeful outcome is unlikely, illogical and just flat out stupid at times.
@gdmatter2286 Жыл бұрын
When did you find someone referring to intps as carefree? Whatever negative feeling or viewpoint you search for (misanthropy, nihilism, depression etc.) in the MBTI community, intps pop up faster than my brand new Tesla speeds up to 100km/h.

Conscientiousness and neuroticism are strongly inversely correlated. Start working hard on the most valuable per unit of time (i.e. most productive) activities, consistently, and it'll improve. Your whole life will improve, too. Duh.

Openness (79%), Conscientiousness (58%), Extroversion (23%), Agreeableness (37.5%), Neuroticism (58%) INTJ - 5w6 - sp/so - 513 - LII - RCOEI - VLEF - Phlegmatic [Dominant]. Think I'm in Ni-Fi loop recently. Maybe a good idea would be to cover the other personality tests and what they mean because I just did the tests, read my results, and agreed with them without investing time for further analysis for most of these tests.

As an INFP scoring in the 99th percentile on Openness, I have a reaction to this video. My ENFP friend is openminded on principle, because she thinks she ought to be. She is very sincere in her view on openmindedness and I happen to agree with her opinion. However, for me, it's different. It's my gut that's openminded, whereas it's her head. I have an openminded reaction without thinking, whereas she has to think about it first. Interestingly, she also thinks through her judgments more carefully and routinely and is more judgmental... or maybe she just thinks more than I do. However, to be fair, I think about my principles ahead of time and have them ready to go when needed. There is also a difference between INFPs and INFJs that has more to do with openness to empathy than to new experience, although both of these apply. INFJs tend to feel more secure letting people in because they are so aware of the structures that make up their identities. Despite their reputation for self centeredness, INFPs are often oblivious to their own process, making them vulnerable to and afraid of manipulation.

ENFJ here - since we're rare in the comments I figure I'll write out a little analysis as to why I agree with where we've been placed, even though no one cares lmao I just think it's fun. For openness I've always scored extremely high. I think he's right in saying that people might not immediately think we would have high openness because a lot of our analyses stay internal (Ni) unless we feel that someone would be willing to hear them. We *love* hearing diverse opinions, intellectual discovery, theorizing, and gathering Se experiences as well, all of which are under the "openness" umbrella. I always max out extroversion, shocker. I'm the last one to leave parties, I have been known to hang out with my ENFJ friend for 48 hours straight, and I fall asleep/become restless when I'm alone for too long. I also almost max out agreeableness. FeNi is built for it, we often prioritize other people at our detriment and are known for fighting for group harmony. However, he does make a good point that some people find us a bit intense and I'd also make the argument that our Ti in tandem with our FeNi makes us incredibly stubborn about morals and we set aside our agreeableness when they're crossed. My scores with neuroticism have stabilized with age. As a teenager I scored extremely highly, and now in my 20s I'm in the mid range. I'll harp on the interplay between Ti and FeNi again. As we develop our Ti we become more rational towards failure and rejection, which brings down neuroticism and makes us less anxious in general. However, ENFJs certainly struggle with low self esteem as Ne is our "parent" function, so we are highly critical of ourselves and take pride in our work.

INTP here, took the test recently: 87.5% Openness (High), 31% Conscientiousness (Low), 23% Extraversion (Low), 48% Agreeableness (Medium), 52% Neuroticism (Medium) So mostly pretty accurate, although I guess you'd expect neuroticism to be higher because we have unbalanced thinking vs feeling. And maybe you'd expect slightly lower openness? Then again, I think this would be because I'm sort of neurotic in some ways but not others (so once again, what you said was pretty accurate) e.g. self conscious, socially awkward, easily overwhelmed, unmotivated, distant, but I wouldn't say that I'm quick to anger, or constantly sad, or that I worry that much compared to others (I can be overly cautious but that's different).
@Multitudes_3 жыл бұрын
The unbalanced thinking vs. feeling thing is just Nathan's idea, and I don't think it has much of a basis in reality, nor has it aligned with what I've seen in myself or other people as far as neuroticism goes. Neuroticism is really just its own separate category with no equivalent in the MBTI. I would expect INTPs to be among the highest in openness! Maybe you're talking about Nathan's expectations, but I don't think he was talking about how high he expected people to score - rather how likely people of a given type are to score high.

@solarisan_3 жыл бұрын
The last category got me thinking. I had to process my past reactions objectively before I’ve decided to write this comment. I don’t know if being an INFJ always results in: not speaking one’s mind. Or, perhaps other factors influence this. Personally, my problem has often been related to: speaks before careful processing (while growing up). Since my attention has always been on truth and equality, I have instinctively reacted to situations where I have perceived the opposite to be true. Other factors might play a bigger role in this. If my parents were to be asked about my level of honesty and direct approach, they would say it is the highest amongst all the family members. However, I do think that my focus is always on stating facts, not trying to ‘attack’ someone personally. So, people who know me well can tell that my intentions are good and that I react on instinct. But it is possible for an INFJ whose Enneagram type is conflict avoidant, to show such reactions.

I did do cultivate disagreeableness. We just don't use it unless we "have to". We aren't agreeable for the mere sake of being agreeable if we are passionate about a topic. That being said, I agree with your choice of INFJ in the top slot for this trait.

That was very good, in fact it's one of the few cross pollinations of BIG 5 and MBTI i have seen done. Have you seen Jordan Peterson claiming that the Big 5 supercedes MBTI?, i feel like they are quite different measures and have their own fitness for purpose
@Multitudes_3 жыл бұрын
The vast majority of psychologists favor the Big 5, which is by far the most empirically supported personality system. The MBTI is more speculative and relatively lacking in validation. Its tendency to box people in can also be problematic and at odds with the complexity and diversity of human beings, our cognitive flexibility, and the known ability of personality traits to change significantly over time. Additionally, measuring traits in percentages is much more nuanced and accurate than ascribing traits in a black-and-white manner, whether it be the four letters or the cognitive functions; I really wish this could become the standard for the MBTI. I do enjoy the MBTI and find that it can be insightful in some ways. However, it should be taken with a grain of salt and treated with an open mind. Far too many people in the community are far too prone to rigidity, overly extreme/stereotypical thinking about the types, and treating this system like an exact science.
@Dan-to9hl3 жыл бұрын
I think another factor might be the volume of content available on mbti vs big 5. I guess there would be an equally effective way to investigate relationship compatibility and styles of thinking using big 5. I just haven't seen it used in an interpersonal way, it seems to be used in psychometric tests mainly to filter on conscientiousness and possibly agreeableness.
@Dan-to9hl3 жыл бұрын
it also doesn't seem to have the resolution, such as concepts such as Ne vs Ni or Se vs Si, Fe, Fi these i would think be fairly easily investigated and shown (but i'm not a psychologist), they certainly seem quite measurable and very observable in my experience in life. I need to do more research on big 5.

I think that the ENTJs and ESTJs being in the bottom ranking for agreeableness comes down to the difference between being charming and being charismatic. Being charming is being well liked, especially universally. People who are charismatic are much more divisive - some people love them and some people hate them.
